Hello to all sifu,

Yesterday, my boss give me her old laptop.

Fujitsu 650MC8C.
- Year 2000 laptop
- OS WinMe
- Intel Celeron 500Mhz processor
- 128Mb Ram
- 6gb HD
- and also with touchscreen.

Sadly without any cd drom or floppy drive and no wifi (giving me a hard time to format this pearl).

Well, I know it is really an old laptop but I thinking to upgrade some part of it specially it RAM and Hard disk and give it to my daughter.
This laptop use an odd design of RAM, please see attachment. I believe it really hard to find it now, so I left with upgrading the hard disk.
I don't know what is the connection type, probably old ide. So, can any ide hard disk fit inside this laptop?
I also want to add wifi connection. Can any PCMIA wifi card fit?

Actually I am really new with laptop. So, can't recognized the connection type.

Where to find tripod shoe/mount replacement?

My camera and video got stolen and left me with just my tripod. But the tripod shoe/mount was fixed onto the camera, so my tripod was left with shoeless.

Anybody from Kuantan can suggest me where I can get cheap replacement? Try my luck at Kuantan Parade but they only sell expensive one. I'm looking for <RM30.

My tripod is sony VCT-D580RM.

Last December, I moved to my new house so I want to transfer my previous telephone line+streamyx account to my new house. At the same time, because TMNet have a RM5 upgrade promotion, I want to upgrade my 512Mb combo package (RM90) to 1Mb combo package (RM95) which is cheaper than RM110 for new registration.

So, I went to TMPoint to get some advice. When I first came in, I ask a lady at the front counter (where you take ticket no.), and told my problem. I told her that I'm moving to a new house and want to transfer my current streamyx combo account to my new house. I also told her about my plan to take the RM5 upgrade promotion. I ask her, want should I do?

After a few minutes checking my account, she advised me to terminate my previous telephone line and apply for a new line for my new home. But because it is a new housing area without any telephone cable installed, she explain that it will take more than a month to process my application because they need to wait for contractor install the cable first. She also said that my application will be on hold till they have enough application at my housing area to proceed.

I said ok because I have no other choice. Then I ask about my streamyx account.

She suggest I downgrade to most basic package, 384kb, RM20 for 10h usage.

I ask her if I still eligible for the RM5 upgrade package, she said yes.

Thinking that better I sacrifice RM20/month for another 1 or 2 months than terminate my account and have to pay RM110/month (not include deposit and other processing fees) for another 2 to 3 years, I agreed. So, after I filled all the form and give it to her, I go back and wait.....

After 2 months (February), I still don't have internet access and still have to pay RM20/month. So I go back to TMPoint. This time another lady, again after checking my account for several minutes, told me that I have to wait till the contractor install the cable. So, I wait again...

2 months later (April), I saw contractor start installing telephone cable. I wait patiently for another two weeks before going back to TMPoint. This time, I was really shock when the lady told me they don't received any application for new telephone line and streamyx account transfer. So again, I have to fill all the form. I also ask if I still eligible for the RM5 upgrade promotion, and they said yes.

1 month later, which is this month, a contractor call me to confirm time and date to install the telephone line in my house. Finally....

The next day after they installed the telephone line and I can receive and call out, I call 100 to ask about my streamyx account. shockingly, the operator said in their system, I already terminate both my telephone line and streamyx account. WTF. I ask her to confirm if the info is correct or not, and of course she read it from the system. I asked, can she do anything so I can activate my screamyx account, she said she can only help if there is an application. Because in their system I didn't apply for the streamyx, so she can't help. She advise me to go to the TMPoint again.

So, again for the fourth time, I go back to TMPoint. Then another news really make me want to burn the place, I'm not eligible for the RM5 upgrade package because it is only applicable for existing user with at least 1 year of subscription without any upgrade or downgrade during that period. Seriously, I really want to punch the guy face when I heard this. I explained to him all my problem and I said they have the worst customer service ever. They cheat my RM20/month money and expect me to accept it? This is the first time in my life I scold someone at customer service counter. WTF. 3 times I already came their center but no one explain me about this although I explained my situation all 3 times. I also shocked that the operator at 100 is wrong because my streamyx account still activate.

The guy also incompetent because every-time I ask an explanation, he will go to the office to discuss with his manager. 4-5 times..... Every-time when he came back, he will said he can't do anything. The 3rd times he came back, he said I have to subscribe for RM60 384kb package for a year before I can get the promotion package. I ask if the promotion still available after another year, he said yes.

Finally after more than an hour, I demand they paid back my money. I don't care what ever reasons, I want my money. After another slip trough his office, he said that they agree to give me the promotion package but for my upgrade from 384kb RM20 to 512kb RM65, not to 1Mb RM95. But first I have to upgrade to 384kb (unlimited) RM60 package before I can upgrade after I get my first bill and if only the promotion still on. Because I don't 'gaduh-gaduh', I agreed.

Actually, I don't really mind to wait for the contractor to install the telephone cable because I know it is based on demand. But I what I really can't 'tahan' is how the TMNet can't really appreciate their loyal customer. I have been using streamyx for more than 6 years since I start working. And because I need to move to new house, they treat me like a new customer although I still don't terminate the account.

Why a telecommunication company can't process customer request through telephone line or online like any other company? Why we need to go to their customer service center while in this modern time, everything can be done at home?

I see that for new customer, they received new wireless modem and telephone for free although I doubt it actually free. What happen to existing customer which already have modem and want to have the same benefit as new customer like combo plan? Previously, they offer different package for with and without modem. But now, like combo package, they don't give a damn thing about customer who don't need the damn extra modem.

Last time, when I change from standard package (whit-out modem) to combo package, I didn't receive any modem. When asked, they said, if want new modem, bring my old modem, the will change with new one which is wireless. What a way of doing business?

But today, it improved a bit, existing customer also can get the free modem although they don't really need one.

Just came back from TMPain again, luckily the staff I met last week remember me so no need to queue. Now they ask me to wait for another week. sad.gif. I told him I already wait for 1 week if count from my last application although it was over than 6 month, why need to wait another week. After meeting with his manager, they agreed to solve the problem within 2 days and filled up another form. mad.gif

I just realize now that they have specific form for account transfer for both streamyx and telephone line. So, what form I fill for the last 6 months? vmad.gif And now I know that I even can actually transfer my old telephone line account to a new address with only RM20 fees. So why I need to terminate and subcribe new account in the first place? Now I need to pay deposit sad.gif . What a **** up service centre. Updated : Ha..ha..ha.. they did it again! vmad.gif vmad.gif vmad.gif Just received a call from TMPain. My current streamyx package is not unlimited, but the most basic package, Rm20 for 10 hours. After almost a week, now they are telling me.

Since last Tuesday:
RM0.05 x 60 minit = RM3/hour
RM3 x 15hours = RM45 daily (usually I left my wireless modem router on 24h)
RM45 x 6 days = RM270
RM270 + RM24 (telephone line, can't remember exact rate) + RM20 (package) = RM314

RM314 shocking.gif for 1 week for usage. They said they will rectify the problem within this week.

I told them I had use the internet for almost a week now and the bill will be astronomically high, they said I can file a 'bantahan'. What the @&*^! Worse customer service ever.

Everyday I have to walk to my office at 5th floor and have to walk to 2nd floor and 3rd floor, 3-5 times within the working hours. Lift is under constant maintenance (because it's a new building) and probably will stay like that for another 2 months. So, no choice but to take stairs. Now, my feet and legs are really in pain specially at heels and back leg area. Currently I use normal black leather shoes (RM2++) and when my pain getting really worst, I use Bata Power sport shoes. But still it doesn't help much.

Actually, I have the foot pain long before this but because of stair climbing routines, it is getting worse. My works need me to keep standing and walking around 2-3 hours straight to monitor student's laboratory works. Sometimes, 7 hours standing with only lunch hour break .

Anyone can recommend me a good shoes? Looking for comfort shoe suitable for both formal and casual use. My budget is <RM400.

Running winxp program on pda?

Hi, I'm really a noob in this area. Never bought a PDA before and know nothing about it.

Just now, my boss ask me to find and buy a pda that can run a windows program, kinetidex to be precise. I already use google to find a good solution but as I don't have any slightest idea, I don't know where to start.

If it possible, what is the best pda I can buy? Or if anyone familiar with kinetidex, is there any compatible version for pda?

Just from my experience.

This is my third try to use Vista.

My first was at end of 2006 when vista still in RC stage. Well, with very minimum system, AMD 2500++ and only 512Mb memory, it was expected that most of the add on function were disabled. So, my first expression for Vista was very bad, Vista suck! Vista is power hungry OS!

My second was with slight updated version of my system. Intel E4300 (no OC) and 1Gb of RAM (same GC, Radeon 9600xt). This time, Vista already officially release. I can use all of the functions but the system was very, very slow to respond. File transfer was slow and photoshop in vista is like driving 20km/h on highway. The only thing to make it faster was to disable all the nice and beautiful interface and functions. In term of hardware, using 4gb of RAM is a must as it give dramatically increase in performance. It was not a pleasant experience. I was on the way to anti-Vista campaign.

So, for my third try...after 2 weeks...
My first expression for vista is actually right. Vista is really a high requirement piece of Operating System. But with my current system (please see my sig), I'm very impress with this OS. Now with the SP1, I believe vista has become slightly faster. I already test this Vista Ultimate SP1 with my old E4300 system and it really show some improvement although the improvement is not really big. But with my E8400 system, everything is changing.

I can say that the startup and shutdown are faster than WinXP. File transfering from my usb drive is much faster and less loss of data. Installing Vista is faster than WinXP. Usually I have time to do other thing like eating and watching tv before WinXP finish installing but with Vista, only take less than one hour!

I know some ppls don't like Dreamscene but I really love it.

The only think that still make me puzzling is Theather Mode Overlay, it is not working in vista! WHY? This function allow me to open movie and it will display full screen in my second display which is a LCD tv connected by HDMI. I had no problem in WinXP. But in vista, I have to drag the player to the second display ouput and manually make it full screen.

Actually, I'm here just to share my experience with vista for those who afraid to migrate to vista. I still think vista is a power hungry OS. But with current hardware price, most probably, vista can run smoothly on any new PC but please be generous to upgrade your memory to at least 4Gb. It took me 2 years to get a machine that really suitable to running Vista. But last time, WinXP take me less than 6 month to get one.

Processor speed not stable

As you can see my computer spec from my signature, I have an Intel E4300 not over clock. So the speed suppose to be 1.8Ghz.

When I open CPU-Z, my processor speed keep changing from 1.8Ghz to 1.2Ghz to 1.8Ghz again repeatably, the multiplier also changing from 9 to 6, and Core Voltage also keep changing. Is this normal?

I'm using Power Logic Magnum 300. I think may be bcoz of this PSU, not enough power. Need, other opinion before I change the PSU.

Upgrading 2 PCs, please recommend

I have 2 pcs. One at my home (see my sig for spec) and one at my office (old AMD 2500+). But now the old one is getting slow and I think it is the right time to upgrade.

Currently, I already have 775 socket mobo and Asus 9600XT AGP graphic card from my previous upgrade. Other hardware such as Hard disk, dvd-writer, keyborad+mouse and casing can be use from my old computer.

I plan to transfer my E4300 + 2x1Gb Ram + PSU to the old computer and replace them with a new one. So problem solve for converting my old AMD system to C2D sytem.

But now for the replacement.

Primary use of my computer:
Graphic design (Adobe, Macromdeia etc.), Movies and Movie Editing
(almost 42/7 utorrent at the background)

Second:
Gaming (once in a while)

My budget is <RM1k.

My aim:
Processor : E6750 <RM600 (need help here, which proc is the best for my budget, lower is better)
RAM : 2 X Kingston DDR2 800Mhz <RM200 (should I get high performance or value?)
PSU : Power Logic 450W RM<200 (Really need a suggestion here)
Cooler : ? <RM150 Please recommend me.

Ok, my budget is lower than total from all above because I will cut here and there. May be will search from other forumer for a good bargain as my budget is really tight. What really concern me is the pc performance when I do my work. Current system is slow when I need to edit high quality picture. So, what is the best processor for me? Or I need to add more memory? Which one better E6750 or E8200?

Don't know where I should put this, but does anyone have problem with their streamyx email?

Just now, I opened my email (from webmail), and found out that tmnet had upgraded their email system. Previously, I had created a folder to put all my important email, but now the folder is gone! All the email in the folder is not there.

Then I realized that my quota had reached 40% and most of it in the trash. I click the trash folder, but nothing there. So I click the empty trash, and the quota reduce to 3% which is from my inbox.

What my problem is, all my important email which I placed in a folder are gone. My assumption is, all the email was placed in the trash by tmnet when they were upgrading the system bcoz from the manages folder, it show that 40% of my total space usage was in my trash folder. But there are nothing in the folder.
