Career progression in the IT line

Hi,

I am in my mid-30s and is an IT professional in the programming line for some time. I am just wondering is there anyone who can comment about what is the right career path or direction that I should consider. Go into full management or just stick to the technical side until I retire. This has been bugging me for some time and would like to hear opinions about this from those who has gone through this phase.

Invest local or global?

I would like a serious and honest reply to what are the areas we can invest in such a volatile market. Would it be better we put it in

1. FD
2. Stocks
3. Overseas stocks
4. Bonds
5. Foreign bonds
6. Local properties
7. Foreign properties
8. Gold silver??
9. Etc...

Air con or chiller

I have planted tanks in a room. But the temperature of the water is around 30 - 31 degrees. Which would be a better option? Get an air con for the room and switch it on 24 / 7 or get a chiller? I am just wondering whether what is the electricity cost gonna be like for both. And with chiller, I can only have 1 chiller per tank but if its an aircon i can have multiple tanks but I am not sure whether air con can be switched on 24 hours per day or not.

Please advice.

Dividend Ex Date

Can someone confirm with me whether if I bought shares before an ex date for the dividend of the share, when can I sell it but still get the dividend?

Eg.

Bought share XYZ on 30 March 2011
Share XYZ giving dividend and the ex date is 20 April 2011
When is the earliest for me to sell the share but still get the dividend for the shares?

Investing In US Stocks

This may sound rather silly but I am wondering if the returns from investing in US Stocks compared to MY Stocks will be higher. I only managed to get a 40 - 50% return on my investment for 2009 in MY stock market, which is rather low in my opinion. Would diversifying my investment to US Stocks be more attractive?
