Zhengli Shi and her manmade virus documented in a 2015 research paper published on Nature Medicine
Shi Zhengli (石正丽; born 26 May 1964) is a Chinese virologist and researcher at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Shi and her colleague Cui Jie found that the SARS virus originated in bats.

In 2015, American and Chinese scientists collaborated to create a new virus by combining a coronavirus found in Chinese horseshoe bats with another that causes human-like severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in mice.

Two of the paper’s co-authors, Xing-Yi Ge and Zhengli-Li Shi, were based at the Wuhan Institute of Virology at the time.

Their study demonstrated that the coronavirus – a different strain to Wuhan coronavirus – was capable of infecting human airway cells.

Other virologists like Simon Wain-Hobson at the Pasteur Institute in Paris expressed concerns over this paper at the time: “If the virus escaped, nobody could predict the trajectory,”

Rutgers University molecular biologist Richard Ebright agreed told the publication: “The only impact of this work is the creation, in a lab, of a new, non-natural risk.”

Mahathir spoke on Hong Kong issue

KUALA LUMPUR (REUTERS, AFP) - Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said on Friday (Oct 4) that Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam should resign over the city’s increasingly violent pro-democracy protests and warned China would take "harsh action" to end the demonstrations.

He also said the embattled Mrs Lam "is in a dilemma".

"She has to obey the masters, at the same time she has to ask her conscience," he told a press conference.

"Her conscience says that the people of Hong Kong are right in rejecting the (extradition) law. But on the other hand, she knows the consequence of rejecting the law.

"For the administrator (Lam), I think (the) best thing is to resign," Tun Dr Mahathir added.

NRD denies project IC 2.0 in Sabah

PUTRAJAYA: The National Registration Department (NRD) has denied allegations that it was involved in the Project IC 2.0 in Sabah and the receipt that has gone viral on the social media was not the department’s official receipt.

In a statement issued today, the NRD said the receipt for the registration of identity cards which went viral was not the official receipt issued and used by the department for registration purposes.

“It should be stressed that the NRD has never appointed any agent or individuals to represent it in any dealings.

“All official receipts of the department are only issued to clients who have dealings at the NRD counters and are not easily issued to the public,” the statement said.

The NRD views this issue which has gone on for several months seriously and is conducting investigations into it.

“Members of the public are urged not to believe and spread false information on this issue to avoid any confusion and disruption to public order,” the department said. - Bernama.

House Loan requirement

I planned to apply a loan for my first property, however due to i changed my job recently (Just passed my probation for 3 month in the new company) some of the bank agent i meet claimed my loan hard to approve as they need a min of 1 years working in the company.

Anyone can help with this?

I do not have any credit card and just recently pay off my PTPTN loan.

Mrt vs college which give the higher yield in renting?

So far there is two area in my consideration. If is the setapak near lrt taman melati. Its nearby to the tarc college, hence possible rent to student.

The other one is near to kepong mrt (aeonthere)The henge. Quite peacefully area except for traffic jam. But with 4 future mrt at kepong should be no problem
