Quick question: Metropolitan vs Taylors. Help pls!

Hi good day guys!

I have a sister who will be undertaking her uni path soon. I would just like a quick input from you guys just to chip in to add into my overall judgement.

her first choice is :

i)Metropolitan college twinning with Curtin in business course

OR

ii)Taylors college twinning with an American uni in business course.

Based on reputation and very important ( tuition fee). which would you recommend? Also, I can't seem to find total tuition fee for a semester in metropolitan college, there website is a bit shady.

Thanks!

Average net worth of Malaysians?

Hi guys,

I was reading an old Bursa article which states that the average net worth of Malaysians from 25 years old to 35 is around the RM 8000 figure. Is it really that low? From my experience reading these forums, most people here are investing and saving quite aggressively. In Australia the average 25 year-35 year old is around Aus 12000 which is much higher. What are your thoughts on this?

Question: When does your salary STOP increasing?

Hi guys,

I was reading an article the other day.

http://jobs.aol.com/articles/2011/03/22/th...w-after-age-40/

The gist is that our salaries will stop increasing/rising/etc by % percent after a certain age. Is this true? I might be naive but I know some individuals who have had a pay rise every 5 years well into their 60s. This is of course in Australia where I am studying right now. So I would like to ask if in Malaysia , what is the average age that salaries stop increasing for your company or industry in Malaysia. Is it 40 years old? If so, then do we only get to look forward to a pay rise for the first 20 years of our working life?

Resell Mac-need a quote.

Hi guys!

I am planning to sell my Mac to a buyer. He has expressed interest in my computer, and since I already bought a new mac I thought why not.

Before I go into the specs, I have asked other Mac forums and Mac2sell so I do not need advice about other sites, I need your own PERSONAL quote and advice so I can see how the general market reacts.

Country: Australia-retail price right now is approximately 2000 AUS.
Year bought: End of 2008 around October
Macbook Pro 15 inch
Identifier: Macbook Pro4,1
Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
L2 Cache: 3 MB
Memory: 2 GB
Bus speed: 800 MHz
Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory: 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

Things to consider:
I need to replace the battery as the moment I take out the battery it shuts down, basically it needs constant battery charging to keep alive.

General review: Approximately 600 Aus. But it will cost around 120 Aus to replace the battery.

Starting a drum business.

Any broad stroke advice on where to start?

I know the competition is huge with giants such as Sonor,Pearl and the like as well as their cymbal and drumstick counterparts too. But it is not impossible, how does on get started into opening a business for drums? I was thinking of a niche product where the customer gets his choice of lugs, mounts, hoops, edges. Like a customized business where drum companies do their own woodwork( something like how OCDP and Pork Pie regulate their business) but more personal. Maybe after that branch out to cymbals and drumsticks, drum thrones, etc

Major Watch Brand comparison

Hi guys, I took this info from a website just wanted to share it with my watch loving peers. I edited it to look neater( or so I hoped). The entire article is here:
http://www.chronocentric.com/watches/brands.shtml

What are the ranges of luxury watches available?
What should I expect to pay and get within each range?
And what brands are in each range?[SIZE=7]

The actual relationships and who exactly is better than whom is highly debated among wristwatch aficionados. This table is intended only to show very broad, general groupings of brands based on what each of these brands are most known for and what the bulk of their product lines represent. Many brands have a few special higher-end collections and some have lower-end models.

High-End Luxury
There are always superb options when money is no object.

Expect To Get:
A particularly refined watch recognized only by people "in the know." Very exclusive in design and craftsmanship, produced in small numbers, available through only very specialized dealers. In short, these are the Rolls Royce class of timepieces.
Examples of Brands in this Range:

A Lange and Sohne, Alain Silberstein, Audemars Piguet, Blancpain, Breguet, Franck Muller, JLC, Parmigiani, Patek Phillipe, Ulysse Nardin, Vacheron Constantin

starting at $5,000 for Steel models
starting at $10,000 for Gold on a leather strap
starting at $20,000 for Gold on a Gold bracelet
with the sky as the limit. Some watches can exceed $2,000,000.

Design/Style:
Either highly distinctive or ultra-conservative. Very to extremely limited production. Partially to completely handcrafted. Hand finished mechanical movements either developed and produced by the same company ('in-house') or bought from specialty movement houses and highly customized. Additional mechanical complications--from obvious ones like moon phases and power reserve indicators to very subtle ones like correctly handling all the obscure conditions of the Gregorian calendar.

Luxury
The largest, most widely known class of luxury timepieces

Expect To Get:
An elegant, valuable, stylish and prestigious watch that will serve you well for a long time. Of quality and durability that the watch can be passed down to your children. If maintained in good condition, can be resold whether it is 6 months or 30 years old.
Examples of Brands in this Range:

Breitling, Cartier, Ebel, Omega, Rolex

$1,000-$4,000 for Steel models
$2,500-$8,000 for Gold on a leather strap
$5,000-$20,000 for Gold on a Gold bracelet
Only modest discounts available through most brand-authorized dealers. Moderate discounts available from unauthorized "gray market" dealers.

Design/Style:
Trend-setting styles that range from traditional to highly original. Each brand usually has at least one or two very distinctive styles. Cases and bracelets mass-produced, but with the superlative fit and finish of fine jewelry. Surgical grade steel. Solid gold of 18 karat or sometimes 14 karat. Highly scratch-resistant sapphire crystals. High-end movements mass produced by the brand, or by a different company and then often customized by the brand. Dominantly very high-grade quartz and chronometer-grade mechanical. Digital quartz not seen at this level except for a few very specialized aerospace watches.

This is the main tier of true luxury watches. Overall, these can be a good value because manufacturers at this level are not skimping to offer 'luxury' products at more moderate prices--yet they mostly do not go to outrageous excess in details without regard to cost of the highest-end brands. Better durability and modest depreciation rates make the long-term cost of ownership of these watches quite reasonable. Used watches in this tier can be an outstanding value.

Pseudo Luxury Watches
When you want a better luxury watch, but don't want to spend so much

Expect To Get:
An elegant and stylish watch that will serve you well for a moderate number of years.
Examples of Brands in this Range:

Baume & Mercier, Raymond Weil, Tag Heuer

$500-$2,000 for Steel models
$750-$4,000 for Gold models
Moderate to heavy discounts available through various dealers.

Design/Style:

More trend following than trend leading. Mass-produced with adequate fit and finish. Steel. Filled or solid gold. Crystals may be mineral glass, acrylic or sometimes synthetic sapphire. High-volume mass-production. Mostly analog quartz and non-chronometer grade mechanical. These brands tend to focus mostly on luxury-style exteriors equipped with very common, unexceptional watch movements.

Basic Luxury Watches
When you want something finer than average

Expect To Get:
An elegant and stylish watch that will serve you well for a number of years.
Examples of Brands in this Range:

Epos, Fortis, Movado, Oris

under $1,000 for Steel models
under $2,000 for Gold models
Moderate to heavy discounts available through various dealers.
Design/Style:
Mostly classic or trend following, though some brands in this class depend on style uniqueness as their real value. Mass-produced with adequate fit and finish. Steel. Plated or filled golds. Crystals are usually the scratchable but inexpensively replaced mineral glass or acrylic type. High-volume mass-production. Mostly analog quartz and non-chronometer grade mechanical. However some offer very unique complications at modest prices relative to most of the luxury watch market.
Hi guys!

I am really exhausted and racking my brains over this problem.

It might be a long post, but I want to explain this problem thoroughly. So pleaseee bear with me!

So firstly, I booted up my external harddrive (LACIE N2870) and was in the process of transferring the years of photo/video memories from that harddrive to my new one. My thinking was that it was better having two harddrives in case one fails suddenly.

The IRONY, when LACIE that night decided to fail....

Almost 1/4 of the photos are gone. Nada. Some of the folder titles I remember vividly in my mind and typed it out on the search bar with zero results both on my mac and lacie. SO I really need help, if there any suggestions you can give me.

Here are a few troubleshooting ways I have played with:

i) At first, I thought in the process of transferring and deleting my folders ( once I transferred a folder from the old to new i would delete the one from old, this was because the old harddrive was all jumbled up and I wanted to organize everything in the new,,,so yeah, long story short I had to delete for organization), I accidently put all the folders I thought I lost in the trash. However this was false, as I searched my entire trash can and even typed in the folder names I was missing in my whole mac, harddrives and trash to no avail.

ii)Second most probably, in the process of transferring ,I might have accidently replaced the folder under the same name. However, I was very very very careful about the process. But even if I DID replace it, this would not explain the number and frequency of files missing-at least 20 different folders. This is highly unlikely.

iii)The other thought was that my HDD was not reading in THIS mac. So I booted up to my friend's mac, still no different results.

iv)In the midst of processing, I might have accidently transferred some folders within the folders taht would make it hard for me to find. I searched thoroughly every single folder from trashcan to harddrive around 3 hours,no difference.

v)Hidden files. I wrote the script on terminal to show me hidden files-no difference.

vi)The final and hopefully the right solution. I opened the info on my harddrive- it has 500 GB. However, it says available only 318 and used 181. So does this mean the folders are still inside but for some reason...not showing at all? This would be wierd and what would be causing this. The other explaination would be the 181 used were hidden files which cannot be or at least I think not.

thanks for taking the time to read if you did,,,,any suggestions? I would deeply appreciate it

[addedon]March 2, 2012, 1:01 am[/addedon]*needed to clear up some stuff:

in vi: I meant after emptying my external harddrive, I found 181 used out of 500 gb. So I was wondering what was taking up the 181 gb of space,,was it my photos that were somehow not showing?

another thing-before I started my trasnfer, I actually saw some of the photos missing while scolling down beforehand. So I do'nt know what happened to it midway

Hi guys!

Are there any Paul and Shark clothing standalone stores in Malaysia? I am studying in Aus and I can't find any either.

Just wondering, cause it seems I could only find them in UK and Hong Kong the last time I traveled.

I will be returning to Malaysia soon so I was wondering if I could get any in KL.

Thanks for any info!

Number of paid vacations and trips per year?

Hi guys! Just a random question

I just had a short conversation about the differences between Australians and Malaysians paid vacations and how many permissible times they could go on vacation a year.

I am currently studying/part-time in Aus so I was not aware that a regular Malaysian employee has only two weeks off a year. Is that true? If so how do you guys travel? One trip for two weeks or two major trips a week each? There is the possibility of a weekend trip although that is too short to go to somewhere abroad like say Spain for me.

So how many paid vacations do you get per year and how many times a year do you travel?

For me, I might be working in Malaysia once I graduate in June, so probably I have to break down my frequency to two times a year-one week each.

Urgent help needed! PHP blank screen!

Hi guys! I am a complete newbie at PHP and have just started getting into programming.

I have been following a manual for setting up a php script and have had some problems.

<?php
phpinfo();
?>

I have put this into my text edit( I'm using Mac), and renamed it testing.php. I saved it in the root folder under my MMAP/htdocs. I then opened ttp://localhost/testing.php.

The screen then turns blank.

I have searched it and it seems a lot of users have run into this problem with no solution. They call it the white screen of death.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards
