09.10.2026 - Thailand’s Queen Suthida has flown a Gripen fighter jet solo for the first time, the royal household revealed on Oct 9, watched on by her husband King Maha Vajiralongkorn, himself a keen pilot. She took off in a single-seat JAS 39C from a military airbase in southern Surat Thani province on Oct 8, according to footage released by the royal household. The outing followed weeks of simulator training at the base and about 10 hours in a two-seat Gripen, media reports said. A former Thai Airways flight attendant who married the king in 2019, days before his coronation, Suthida, 48, began flying in 2010 and has logged nearly 1,190 hours.

She regularly flies as co-pilot to the King on royal trips, including landing at Bhutan’s notoriously difficult Paro airport, the reports said. Thailand already operates a squadron of Gripen C/D fighters made by Sweden’s Saab, and in 2025 signed a deal for three Gripen E jets and one Gripen F worth around US$556 million (S$712 million), with deliveries due by 2030. After she landed, the King handed her a bouquet and pinned a Golden Gripen Order patch on her left arm, which reports said made her Thailand’s first female Gripen pilot.

Skeleton Of Thai Woman Found Inside Her Property After A Decade

Chachoengsao, Thailand - A burglar was apprehended by police after ransacking what appeared to be an abandoned property, with large trees and vines covering the iron gate, as well as branches and weeds growing densely along the pathway leading to the property. When police arrived at the property, they found a Toyota vehicle which had been partially dismantled, and a house window which had been forced open. The downstairs hall had been ransacked, with belongings scattered everywhere. However, police also found the remains of a human skeleton, with pieces of the skull scattered separately from the other bones. The bones were collected and gathered outside. The skeleton was that of a former government schoolteacher, Ms. Phairin C., thought to be around 70 when she died.

A mechanic who lived nearby said he had frequently rode his motorcycle past the property for the past three to four years, and that it always looked abandoned. Meanwhile, a 92-year-old neighbour, Chong A., said Phairin normally lived alone. Chong said she hadn't seen Phairin for over a decade, also noting that, due to a dead-end lane, Phairin would have had to have driven in front of Chong's house anytime she drove in or out of her property. Chong claimed she never noticed any unusual smells or anything suspicious, and that she thought Phairin moved to another province to live with her children and grandchildren.

MBPJ Councillor Terence Tan Passes Away At 48

Petaling Jaya councillor Terence Tan, 48, who passed away this morning (Sept 22), is remembered by his peers as jovial, hardworking and dedicated. Tan, a DAP whip at Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), had served as a councillor since 2010. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh told StarMetro that Tan would be missed.

“He was always chirpy and helpful, and the energy he brought to the room is difficult to replace. Thank you, Tan, for devoting your youth to nation-building. Petaling Jaya is a better place because of your labour,” said Hannah.

Meanwhile, Selangor investment, trade and mobility committee chairman Ng Sze Han extended his heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies to Tan’s family on behalf of DAP Selangor.

“Losing him at such a young age is a profound loss to his family, the community he served and all of us who had the privilege of working alongside him," he said.

Bukit Gasing assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran, in a social media post, said: “Terence was a pillar at MBPJ as one of the most senior councillors, and party whip for many years.

“To me, he was a trusted confidant and a brother in arms from days long past. We started this journey together (as politicians) ages ago, and his comments and jokes from my first election campaign remain fresh. He was honest and kind,” he said.

Subang Jaya assemblyman Michelle Ng, also in a social media post, reminisced about the days when she and Tan would exchange notes on parenting and challenges they faced as first-time parents. Petaling Jaya mayor Datuk Mohd Yazid Sairi and deputy mayor Sharinaz Samsudin extended their condolences to Tan’s family and expressed their gratitude for his service to the city. Former MBPJ councillor Richard Yeoh described Tan as helpful and effective, going all out to assist residents whenever mishaps and emergencies arose.

“When first appointed as a councillor in his early 30s, he worked well with all mayors, fellow councillors and state officials. He will be missed by all who knew him,” said Richard.

Another former MBPJ councillor, Derek Fernandez, said Tan had made difficult decisions at MBPJ for the benefit of residents.

“I will always remember Terence’s smile. At MBPJ, I remember he stood up several times in support of residents’ interests under tremendous pressure to do the opposite. I will miss him dearly,” he said.

MBPJ councillor Nalina Nair said he was like a brother at work.

“He loved and cared deeply for his family, friends, colleagues, residents and everyone who crossed paths with him. He will forever be in our hearts,” she said.

Councillor Suraise Gengiah said he was overwhelmed by Tan’s passing, as they were good friends and had worked well together at the city council. Tan leaves behind his wife and three-year-old daughter.

21.09.2026 - Presley Gerber, the son of supermodel Cindy Crawford, has passed away at the age of 27 following a long battle with drug addiction and mental health problems. According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, Presley died at a rehab facility on Sunday. The cause of death has not been revealed. Presley had been open about his years-long struggles through candid posts on social media, with his death coming just weeks after his younger sister also spoke up about them.

Kaia Gerber recently opened up about how her brother’s struggles had affected their family, admitting that they had taken their toll on ‘everyone’. The 24-year-old told Vogue: ‘When something like that happens in a family, it kind of levels everyone.' Presley had initially followed in his mother’s footsteps as he started modeling at age 15, featuring in campaigns for fashion labels such as Dolce & Gabbana and Calvin Klein. After being signed to IMG models, Presley also appeared in a 2018 Pepsi ad with Cindy.

It was known that Presley struggled with mental health problems from a young age and was arrested for driving under the influence in 2019. In November, he shared on social media that he had removed himself from the platform to ‘take care of my own mental health for a bit’. A month later, Presley opened up about his personal life in a series of candid Instagram videos called ‘Mental Health Mondays’. In one post, he listed off the medication he took for ‘night terrors’ and ‘panic attacks’. Presley said: ‘I feel like honesty is the best policy,’ he began before sharing that he was on 1mg of Buprenorphine – used to treat both pain and opioid use disorders – twice a day.’

He had also remarked his use of benzodiazepines had been ‘fluctuating up and down depending on what’s been going on in my life’. According to the Cleveland Clinic, benzodiazepines help ‘slow down activity in your brain and nervous system’ to treat ‘anxiety and related mental health conditions’. At the time, Presley shared: ‘Unfortunately, I’ve had a lot of loss in many different forms recently, so that is not an excuse, but it’s the reason why I am where I’m at now.’ He also went on to explain that he also would take a dose of Xanax at night or when his ‘panic attacks are really, really bad’.

Last month, Kaia described her brother’s honesty and openness as ‘refreshing’ and praised him for speaking about his struggles. She noted: ‘My parents for most of our lives were very, very private and didn’t share anything – and now we have this absolute teacher, my brother, who says, “I’m gonna be very human for everyone”. student at a Catholic junior high school in the southern Philippines was shot dead by a fellow student, who later took his own life, a local official said on Tuesday. The alleged shooter managed to sneak in a .45-calibre pistol into a classroom at the school in Zamboanga City, Mayor Khymer Adan Olaso told local radio. The suspect fired at the teacher who was seated at the table, but missed. Afterwards, the suspect moved to another classroom and shot a student who later died, Olaso said.

Alleged livestream footage of the shooting, circulated by local media, showed what appeared to be a first-person perspective, with a gun barrel moving down a hallway, AFP News Agency reported. The situation was under control and there were no more active shooters, authorities said. The incident comes two months after a high school shooting in Tacloban City in the central region left three students killed and 20 others wounded. The suspects in that shooting were two teenage boys, one of whom was found to have regularly played an explicitly violent online game. The sandbox game, Gorebox, has been banned in the Philippines and the Senate is investigating the effects of violent computer games on young people. Across South East Asia, authorities are looking at restricting social media use for minors, citing possible ill effects.
