so this morning ayam go buy nasi lemak at road side. so after i queue when my turn, i told the apek nasi lemak seller

"can i have one nasi lemak with the sambal sotong?"

then die pun replied kat aku when preparing my nasi lemak

"duduk kat malaysia pun x reti nk ckp bahasa melayu kah?"

so i just unconsiously say la, still sleepy ma

"dey macha, dah tahun 2015 pun x reti nk ckp bahasa inggeris?"

then the awek queue behind me giggle a bit

the nasi lemak seller str8 away angry and scold me, dont wanna sell me nasi lemak, makes me hav to eat bread when passing by convenience store.

When I was surfing LYN forum, I notice there's actually no section dedicated to counseling issues. I believe that there are a lot of depression issues discussed in /k/ (few threads every week) but most of them weren't taken seriously with lots of irresponsible postings. What if the person behind the other screen was actually desperate for help? So I thought of creating this thread dedicated to provide more serious advices and wisdom from the humble fellow LYN surfers. Sometimes speaking to a stranger is better than speaking to loved ones (to remain anonymous because afraid to be judged?) and I believe that many ppl will actually prefer typing and writing down their stories to share than calling befrienders (that is why blogs existed lol).

Just to b e clear, I along with many LYN surfers who are willing lend an ear may not be professional counselors/psychologists/psychiatrists but I believe many are here to offer help as different people may have gone through different life experiences. At the end of the day we are all humans from different walks of life and everyone has their own dark secrets. I personally want to help because I believe I have been there, the lowest point in life where you realize you are actually alone. I open this thread in serious /k/ so that traffic will be slower and more people will get to aware of anyone sharing their stories update and get the time to offer their points of view. There should also be reasonably less irresponsible postings. This is going to be a serious thread and I hope mods can approve this (pinned please?) and remove any trolls.

Since this is a new thread, lets start by discussing how we all normally handle depression

After some discussions made, I will like to highlight that if any stories/cases shared are deemed severe, we will have to advice you to pay psychologists a visit. It is because this thread was created with good intentions and by no means to bring more harm than good to any individuals. Please kindly note that many of us are not certified professionals to be offering help. However, if your case is considered a 'down' scenario instead of serious depression cases, we are all ears.

MARA Scholarship Interview

KUALA LUMPUR, April 30 ― Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) officers allegedly asked two non-Muslim students questions about the Islamic faith as part of a scholarship interview in Sarawak over the weekend.

The students were left speechless after being asked to name the prophets of Islam, the rukun (precepts) of Islamic prayers, and their opinion on the controversial hudud law, among others.

They are now afraid that their inability to answer the questions would affect their applications for university scholarships under the Indigenous People's Trust Council.

“In our group, there was another non-Muslim female candidate. We were both facing the same predicament,” Nigel Unchat Jeremaiah told Borneo Post Online, adding that the candidate was later asked about the pressures faced by the institutions of marriage and the family.

“It’s not that we do not want to participate in the question-and-answer session but we do not know what to answer. I am worried that our silence during the session could cost us.”

Nigel, who is a Christian, said that one of the Mara officers approached him after the interview and asked for his opinion on hudud after finding out that he was not a Muslim.

The interview was conducted at a Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) in Semariang, near Kuching on last Saturday.

Candidates were divided into groups of 10, with three sessions of group discussion, question-and-answer, and group activity.

After being notified of the case, Sarawak’s Land Development Minister Tan Sri James Masing suggested that the Islamic questions were asked to disqualify non-Muslim candidates.

“They should not have asked Muslim-based questions. The asking of questions on Islamic matters to non-Muslims is plain wrong. What relevance are these questions when applying for a higher learning scholarship? They cannot assume that the candidates know the answer.

“The Mara officers must understand that there are many natives in Sarawak and that Muslims are a minority here. What if the candidate can’t answer the questions? Will he be disqualified?” asked Masing.

He also accused the officers of being religious bigots, and stressed that such an incident should never occur in Sarawak.

The Sarawak and Kuching branches of MARA could not be reached for comments at the time of writing.
