1. Most shops do not accept BTC at the moment. Those that do mostly use Lightning or Chivo.
2. Immigration Card — accepts Bitcoin L1.
3. McD accepts Lightning.
4. Cafe Luz Negra at centro historico showed Lightning QR at first, then showed me L1 QR after I said I don’t have Lightning.
5. KFC only showed me Chivo QR, whichis neither L1 nor Lightning, not readable by iOS QR scanner without Chivo installed. KFC does not accept other bitcoin payments.

Fixed Deposit is the best for emergency fund

Where to tuck emergency funds? This has been a constantly debatable issue, it shouldn't be.

So here are the reasons why fixed deposit is the best place to store emergency fund:-

1. It's protected from your debit ATM card. If your card 16 digits PAN, expiry date, 3 digits CVC got stolen or brute forced, your savings account is compromised, but your fixed deposits are safe from it.
2. You can withdraw it anytime. Just do it from online banking and mobile app between 8AM-10PM, you should see the money appear in your normal current/saving accounts directly.
3. But I will lose the interest? Not really, just save RM1000 and set 2-3 months term, auto renewal. Here is a graph to show you:

Basically, it doesn't really matter which interest you choose. When it auto renews, the interests paid are reinvested and compounded over and over. The graph above shows that if you choose 6 months term over 60 months, you actually get more money 5 years down the road.

Alternatives Analysis:

1. Savings account - It's liquid af, got the urge to spend it all, FD tucks it away making it slightly less liquid.
2. StashAway Simple or other money market funds - Stable, but extremely illiquid. Takes 5 days to withdraw, that is very very bad for "emergency fund".

So what to do?

1. Setup 2 accounts in different banks. There is a chance you may lose access to 1 bank account, this makes it safer.
2. Save at least 3 months living expenses in each of them.

Tiger Brokers may actually dethrone IBKR, TD Ameritrade etc to be the easiest brokerage for Malaysians to open account and trade US stocks with next to nothing in commission fees.

Key benefits:-
1. They support mykad KYC out of the box and even approved my account over the weekend, crazy.
2. If you have SG bank acc, it's brain dead easy to get started
3. If you don't have SG bank, read No Money Lah's guide as mentioned below.
4. It's regulated by Monetary Authority of Singapore, and use DBS as custodian.

I honestly don't think their customer support hotline will bother with us plebs on this, posting rant here will probably get their attention.

Unit Pengambilan Khas Pelajar postcard

SPM '11 candidate here... so I got a postcard, on the heading it says Unit Pengambilan Khas Pelajar... on the back it says Interview for IPT diploma program session 2012.

It says I have been chosen to attend the interview at UPM, those who qualified can get 'pembiayaan' from PTPTN? Dafuq? And the course is about to make me a health scientist? And can work as intern in government hospitals?

on the bottom also says have to pay RM450 if I passed the interview... bring along all sorts of identification... then the RSVP stuff. They put 3 phone numbers there, tell me to RSVP asap.

What kinda program is this? I already started studying at APIIT now they send this? And seriously, this postcard looks like a big effing joke!

Anybody else got this?

Did I friend zone a girl?

Single... and now the girl keeps on telling me 'I'm not free, please don't find me' I think its time to really have to get over it. Then I start to rethink during high school got any girls nice o not...

Then suddenly I recalled one... she was my 3 yrs combo classmate. Likes to talk dirty (eg. my brother n sex n stuff) to/with me, hold my hand once on the road, sit beside me n lean towads me in photos...
Treat me like very good friend... but I treat her like another friend and didn't notice single bit of bla bla.

Now I think back I think I made some big mistake...

So there is a girl in university that I really like since few weeks ago, I want to ask her out. We are of different class but same course la, different grouping I would say.

Thursday is usually a day where 3-4 hours break between lecture which troubles most of us what should we do, I think it's a chance for me to ask her out. I'm ball-less enough to use FB chat
Here's a cut down version:

Me -> Tomorrow any activity?
She-> Nope, you?
Me -> nope, anywhere to go?
She-> no idea, why dont you join them (my classmates)
Me -> I don't really like snooker.
She -> ohh... I think we (her classmates) are going to watch movie tomorrow, during the long break

I thought they r going to cinema, so I tell her its not worth to go back and fro to city center, I didn't know she meant movie in her friend's laptop. She is confused, my bad, then I babbled bout Starbucks, saying that my friend asks me to try her kopi, coz everytime I go out n at Starbucks I don't know what to order. She tells me that a drink she likes very much, "it tastes SUPER NICEEEE". I know I talked lots of crap but I kinda enjoy it, I even ask her whether she used up (she did) her book vouchers, and telling her I'm looking for HTML5 Canvas by Steve Fulton.

Me -> Is KLCC a nice place to go tomorrow?
She-> No idea.
Me -> I take it as YES.
She ->
Me -> Just you and me OK?

Me -> We wait at entrance tomorrow
She-> For?
Me-> Shuttle bus to LRT station (she always fetched and dropped by her parents)

At near midnight I sent her Good night and tats' it

But today morning, I sent a SMS to her asking 'our date to klcc still on, right?'. She said 'im going out with classmates, sorry'

At the end, all the going out and watch movie are just watching Human Centipede with her classmates in Syndicate Room

That was what the goof! I felt kinda awkward to join them, and I laughed many times while watching the movie (sorry, I have weird sense of gore) We didn't talk much, I don't know if she is rejecting me, or felt awkward to talk to me in front of many people.

Today evening I told her to inform me earlier if she got any plans, don't leave me clueless. I did ask whether she is free the next Friday and Sunday. Saturday I am not free coz got people to meet. Friday I am not the free, she also said going out with friends. Sunday she got church so cannot go out la.

So what are you guys opinion?

P/S: I didn't do step 4 of The Five. Or maybe did a little of ricocheting with her when we watch the movie, she move around a lil on tiny space.

Asus N55SF new models

Asus N55SF just released new model of N55SF? Called S2356V... previously S2353V

So the difference is the hard disk and processor. The old one got 2.3Ghz while the new one got 2.4Ghz... but in return the new one got 5400rpm HDD and the old one got 7200rpm. Price is about the same.

Should I go for faster CPU or faster HDD. They are running out of S2353V now , that sucks

While buying laptops from Lowyat is not a bad choice, but after I did some googling work I found out a store called Techhypermart, selling my notebook of choice at more or less the same price (shipping fee added).

Should I buy at PC Fair?

So I decided to quote the price of Asus N55SF, I went to Lowyat and that guy gave me RM2750 that also comes with 8GB RAM and a chapalang toolbox. Then at PC Fair the big Asus booth gave me a price of RM2799 regardless of using credit card or cash but got 8GB. But the booth adds a comment that said LowYat may not sell first hand lappy and they might sell some 2nd hand and warranty voided laptops. They also claim they got 2 year global warranty. Is this a lie?

Plus I really got my nerves on when I try to ask them how to manually swap graphic cards on that model, the first one called the 2nd one, the 2nd one called the 3rd one and so on. At the end none of them can answer me that question, we were stucked in that little room with a Asus-chick. At the end we left because we realized that soon or later no one in the booth can answer the question, I might just find the answer from googling.

Now, is it true that Lowyat sells 2nd hand? And is it true that Lowyat does not give 2 year warranty? What I know is the Assus booth is actually Thunder Match, which is also a Lowyat dealer. That makes me think the staffs know only about price nego, free gifts and printed specs, they don't know crap about the computer itself.

EDIT: This is last day and Im not going back to PC Fair, so this topic is like a debate where I can obtain some valuable expert comments

How to test laptops EXPLICITLY in lowyat?

Guys, this is weird, but before I waste or use my money, I want to test the lappy not just by clicking around Windows Explorers or Media Players, I really want to test how well my games run!

But sadly none of those sellers really display N55SF with gMes installed. This makes it so hard to learn their performance by just messing with it. So I wonder can I bring my HDD with SC2 installed and run it?

Any replies from Lowyat dealers are welcomed, but normal forumers are welcomed too... Just well, I wish they run some games demo on the spot instead of showing wallpapers with price lists
