Police officers now have the power to enter homes to enforce self-isolation rules.

New Zealand entered a four-week lockdown to break the transmission of coronavirus on Thursday. Overnight, police officers have pulled over people who were breaking the self-isolation order — apparently unaware it was in place.

Police Commissioner Mike Bush, in a series of radio and TV interviews on Thursday morning, reiterated people will initially see the "friendly face" of police during the lockdown.

"But we'll be ensuring people will comply because if they don't, people will die," Bush said on RNZ.

He said police already had to educate people on the self-isolation order overnight, and would continue this informative approach unless people intentionally flout the rules.

A nationwide state of emergency was declared on Wednesday, giving police wide ranging powers. Under the Civil Defence Emergency Management Act, police can enter any premises under the belief it would save lives or prevent injury.

"If we suspect there are gatherings inside places, we're enabled to go in there. We'll do everything we can to make sure people comply," Bush said.

He said police would be monitoring activity around the country, and would "deploy" to areas that showed increased activity. There were several hundred soldiers ready to assist police with foot patrols, if required.

While roadblocks were not in place and were not planned, Bush said such a measure could be used if there were areas in which many people did not comply. People could expect to be pulled over and questioned, however.

Bush said there "could be" an increase in dishonesty crime, like theft, and there would definitely be an increase in domestic violence — "we'll be deploying into that with urgency".

Production of the iPad and MacBook could move from China to Batam revealed Indonesia tech news site, detikINET.

The media outlet cites an interview with Abidin Hasibuan, CEO of PT Sat Nusapersada as the source. The company has collaborations with Pegatron, a Taiwanese manufacturing company that makes Apple products including the MacBook, iPad and to a certain extent, the iPhone XR.

“There will be laptop and tablet. I am not allowed to mention the brand but we begin in June. The brand is American and we will supply to America”, Abidin said (quote translated from Indonesian).

Pegatron has made significant investments with its Indonesian partner to start a manufacturing plan in the country.

Huawei promises it isn't deleting photos

Huawei has released a statement after multiple users have been shown a notification telling them that Twitter has been deleting their photos.

The original story came from the Taiwanese version of Apple Daily showing the notification in Chinese, but was widely replicated and in English over on Reddit.

The prompt, which appears to only be seen on recently-updated Chinese Honor and Huawei smartphones, reads 'Twitter has deleted a photo from your gallery'.

One user took a recording of the process happening, and does indeed show the image is instantly deleted, and can't be found in the deleted items folder either.

This prompted instant accusations of spying and the brands deciding what content you can and can't have on your phone (although spying isn't that effective when you tell people about it) - so Huawei has moved to clear up the matter.

Calm down, it's over there...
In a statement sent to TechRadar, a Huawei spokesperson said that it was just a glitch in a new update causing the notification to appear:

"Huawei has recently received user reports that alleges the Twitter app automatically deletes images on Huawei devices.

"Having investigated the issue, Huawei has discovered that whenever users of certain devices download an image using specific builds of the Twitter app (version 7.78.0 and 7.77.0), the app will automatically create a folder of the same name as the image and promptly delete it in the background.

"This action triggers Huawei’s built-in image protection alert, causing the system to notify the user of the deletion. However, the images are not affected. Users may find their images at the following location: File Manager/picture/Twitter.

"Huawei is currently in conversation with Twitter to resolve this issue as soon as possible."

This all seems plausible, given it could easily be a compatibility issue between the two apps - although the statement doesn't confirm whether this is limited to Chinese models or not.

So if you have encountered the issue, it's worth checking through your file manager to see if the images have appeared in the right place - although it doesn't look as though this issue will be progressing throughout the wider world.

In an emotive interview on the Cook report, Sarah Forsyth, now 42, said she was forced to have sex with 20 men a night in the city's Red Light District.

And in one harrowing, hellish encounter she claims she saw evil pimps execute a young Thai girl who had also been trafficked.

Sarah says “Her face just exploded. I stood and I watched as the bullet literally took half her head off her shoulders."

“And then, just as the noise registered in my ears, she dropped to the floor beside my feet."

She added: "Then I saw the little red lights on the cameras and heard the soft grinding of the tapes and I realised her killing was being filmed."

Sarah says the scene haunts her nightmares.

She is one of thousands of British women forced into sex slavery, and has blown the lid off the seedy vice world in her new memoir Slave Girl.

Other horrific stories from her 1990s captivity include seeing the severed head of a rival pimp and being forced to play Russian Roulette.

Sarah travelled to Amsterdam after seeing a newspaper ad for a qualified nursery nurse in the city.

But she had been duped by career criminal John Reece who met her at Schipol Airport, stole her passport and held a gun to her mouth.

Sarah says: "John told me if I made one wrong move I’d be dead."

She was working the brothel within weeks, where she said the girls survived on a handful of M&Ms a day.

The pimps also fed her crack cocaine until she had a crippling addiction.

Sarah recalled: “Once I experienced the utter oblivion of crack I became its helpless slave.”

She escaped in 1997 after being approached by Dutch vice cops.

It set up a heartbreaking reunion with her devastated mum in Gateshead.

Sarah said: "I just wanted my mum, and to stay like that for ever. The pair of us cried and cried.”

She gave evidence against the trafficking gang, with five pleading guilty to abusing and enslaving her.

John Reece was found guilty of two counts of causing prostitution and was caged for two years.

Sarah adds: "“I got away. Unlike the thousands of women trapped in sexual slavery today – bought and sold like cattle by truly evil men, then abused and re-abused by the normal ones who love their children and caress their wives. I got away.”

Japan’s national government has also stepped in to urge San Francisco to reject the memorial, which bears an inscription referring to “hundreds of thousands of women and girls ... sexually enslaved by the Japanese Imperial armed forces in 13 Asian-Pacific countries from 1931 to 1945”.

Mainstream historians say up to 200,000 women, mostly from Korea but also other parts of Asia including China, were forced to work in Japanese military brothels during World War II as so-called “comfort women”.

Activists have in recent years set up dozens of statues in public venues around the world, many of them in South Korea, in honour of the victims.

The statues have drawn the ire of Tokyo, which has pressed for their removal.

'Lost' documents mark new twist in Abe scandal

TOKYO -- Japan's Finance Ministry has released supposedly destroyed documents on the questionable sale of public land to a stridently nationalistic school operator tied to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, providing fodder for opposition lawmakers who accuse government officials of lying in parliament.

The ministry on Wednesday presented lawmakers with over 900 pages of documents detailing negotiations between officials and educator Moritomo Gakuen over a plot of public land in an Osaka suburb, which ultimately sold for far below market rates. An elementary school built on the property was supposed to open in 2017.

These records stretch from June 2013, when the school operator first showed interest in the land, to June 2016 completion of the sale. They include numerous mentions of Abe's wife, Akie, who was briefly named as honorary head of the school. Moritomo Gakuen's former head, who was arrested last year along with his wife on suspicion of fraud over education subsidies, painted a picture of a first lady who enthusiastically supported the project.

The prime minister has maintained that neither he nor his wife played a role in the sale.

The Finance Ministry has sought to portray the scandal as the work of one man, Nobuhisa Sagawa, who headed the ministry's Financial Bureau at the time.

Sagawa told parliament in February 2017 that records of these negotiations no longer existed. On Wednesday, Kazushige Tomiyama, deputy director-general of the Financial Bureau, told lawmakers on the lower house budget committee that someone had ordered the records destroyed to remove any inconsistencies with Sagawa's testimony, "though the specific nature of that order is unknown."

The ministry previously admitted to altering documents for the same reason. Employees had retained copies of the deleted files on their computers, allowing them to be recovered.

Abe told a lower house committee on Wednesday that it was "extremely regrettable" that Sagawa's statements had been false, and called it "inappropriate" for documents to be destroyed in connection with parliamentary testimony.

Abe's own account of the land deal is in question. The newly released ministry documents show Saeko Tani, a former aide to Akie Abe, telling a Financial Bureau employee in November 2015 that "an acquaintance of Mrs. Abe has inquired with her about the possibility of receiving preferential treatment" to lower the lease price of public land. Moritomo Gakuen leased the Osaka plot prior to purchasing it. The Finance Ministry said it was already doing "as much as possible under the current rules."

The prime minister said in April that Tani had consulted with the ministry of her own accord after Moritomo Gakuen's ex-head Yasunori Kagoike left several messages on Akie Abe's voicemail. But the latest documents can be interpreted to mean Tani acted in response to an inquiry from Kagoike, who has also claimed that the prime minister donated money for the school.

Opposition lawmakers have called the documents proof that officials made false statements in parliament. "What the government has been telling us for over a year is false," said Yuichiro Tamaki, co-chief of the newly formed Democratic Party for the People.

The Finance Ministry documents show Akie Abe "heavily influenced" the land sale, he said, suggesting Abe's next step should be to resign as prime minister. He also called on Finance Minister Taro Aso to step down. Seiji Osaka, policy chief for the opposition Constitutional Democratic Party, blasted the Finance Ministry's concealment of the documents as undemocratic.

These revelations come soon after other documents emerged suggesting Abe knew of his longtime friend's ambition to open a veterinary school before the government drew up plans for such an institution in a new special economic zone. The school contract was eventually awarded to the friend's educational organization.
