Honda Civic FD (2010) Engine Stalled

Dear Sifus,

I am driving Honda Civic FD1 (1.8) year 2010. on 2 occasions, the engine just died while my car is stopped in the traffic jam. Both times I started the car again and it could start, and moved.

Occasionally I also experience slight jerks while driving on high speed (100kph), and I thought it could be the way I let go the throttle and step on it again.

I contacted my foreman, and he said suspect it's fuel pump. I called Honda Service center, they say need to bring the car in to test, but I told them the problem happens maybe once or twice only, can't show them how the car engine stall again.

My own suspicion is fuel pump, throttle body, O2 sensor, etc? Which of the above will make the car engine died, and can immediately start again?

Appreciate feedbacks.

Thanks.

Update 1 (13 Nov 2017):

The engine stalled 2 more times after my post, this time it happened 2 days in a roll, while the car is moving. As I was negotiating a turn, once in a small roundabout as I let go the pedal, the engine completely stalled and steering became heavy, and almost locked. The brakes also don't seem to work too smoothly since the engine is turned off. Almost ram into the cars on my left. Stopped my car completely, and put the gear to "P", and started the car straight away. Close shave. Happened again this morning out of the parking lot, almost ram into the wall. Started the engine again and moved on. No choice but to bring to a mechanics, he suggested to clean the throttle body, which I did, and it was quite dirty (cost = RM40). For record sake, I upgraded/butt itchy and replaced the normal paper air filter to those high flow stainless steel one (Works Engineering), that was when the car has 50K mileage, now 110k. My mechanics told me my car is sensitive in terms of airflow, those stainless steel air filter might cause the car to "choked" with too much airflow. Anyway, I also replaced the air filter back to those normal paper type. Will see how the car fares for the next few weeks, or days.
Honda Civic FD1 Rear Absorber Replacement

Dear Forumer,

My Honda Civic FD1 2010 model was told to have oil leaking from my rear absorber, hence it is time for a replacement.

I was given two choices:

1) Honda Original Rear Shock Absorber from Thailand RM560 per pair inclusive of installation.

2) Tokico (Hitachi) OEM Rear Shock Absorber from Thailand RM480 per pair inclusive of installation.

I was told Tokico is in the harder side, not sure what benefit that would bring.

Appreciate if forumer who had experience in these absorbers shed me some light which option is better.

Thanks

Honda Civic FD Brakes Squeking Sound

Hi Forumers,

When I serviced my 6 years old Honda Civic FD, the mechanics told me my front brake pads are getting thin and need to replaced. And I have agreed and replaced it with a set of original Honda brake pads. After using for a few days, the brakes started squeking badly when my car coming to almost complete stop. Went bak to my mechanics and he said the pads could be faulty and changed another set for me, and the result is the same. Then he suggested to grind my brake rotor. After that the brakes seem good, but only for 2 weeks only and now started squeking badly again when I apply the brakes and even louder when my car coming to a slow stop.

I was wondering, what went wrong here? Brake pads are new and brake rotor also just grind.

Update:

Forumer @Thrust suggested to me it's not the brake pads problem, but the brake hardware problem. He shared with me a youtube video and finally I understand what could be the root cause of all this squeaking. It was actually the metal clip on the brake caliber, the caliber that are holding up the brake pads, and the brake pads are supposed to slide freely between these clips (brake caliper retainer clip). He suggested to me to replace this. Professional advice also asking the user to change these every time we replace our brake pads. Reason being, there are lots of dust and rust sitting in between the brake pad and the clip, making it very tight and every time we apply brake, this metal also get pulled into the rotor, making the squeaking noise.

I tried ordering these clips from the spare part shop and also one of our forumer @hingan who sells Honda spare part, they are out of stock.

So, my last resort is to spray WD40 at the clip, and some black dirt flow out. It solved the squeaking completely!!!! Even the metal grinding sound has disappeared. But of course this is only temporary relieve as dust or rust could build up again. After using the car for a few days, slight squeaking came back, but it's much better now.

Now I remember seeing a small packet of black color grease (like butter) that comes with the new pads, but my mechanic just throw that away. Thinking back, that black color grease could be used to lubricate between the brake pads and the retainer clip.
User is online!Profile CardPM	Report PostGo to the top of the page
Edit Post+Quote Post

When do you guys replace car battery

Hi All,

Just wondering, when will you guys replace your car battery, until it really worn out? Until it cannot start in the morning?

Or after 2 years, regardless if the battery is still working, change it anyway to prevent being stuck in a situation when your car can't move anymore.

Thanks.

Changed 4 tyres, Steering pull to LEFT

Hi all,

I just changed all 4 new tyres (Michelling XM2), and done balancing and alignment, did the chambering as well and the workshop said all okay. After I took the car and drove home, at lower speed seems straight, but when I go above 50kph on a straight road, the car started to pull to the left.

My question is, is it very difficult to do a proper alignment? Called the workshop and they said they did not test the car on a highway, only small road. Will bring back this weekend for them to check again. I thought the computer will be able to align the car straight, rather than the mechanics have to rest drive it?

Thanks.

Hi all, I removed my Vkool windscreen tint for Puspakom inspection. Now I am trying to install back the windscreen tint but checked with Vkool it cost around $800. I find it quite pricey, is there any other brand of tint worth considering?

Car Body Repair Workshop for Honda City

Hi Forumers,

I dented and scratched my 2005 Honda City lower door frame and the side frame while making a turn in a car park where they have a low rise metal railing. MY questions are:

1. Would sending the car back to Honda Service Center cost alot more as comapred to car body workshop outside? I am not claiming my insurance.
2. Any recommendation on a reliable and reasonable pricing car body repair workshop around Subang/Sunway/Kemuning area?

Thanks in advance.

Rattle sound inside Honda Civic 2009

Hi,

I drives a Honda Civic 2009 model and recently I heard rattle sound every time I drive on uneven rough roads. I haven't been paying attention before that so I am not sure if this is new. The sound seems to come from the left front dashboard but when my wife is sitting at the back, she claims that the sound come from the back. I am pretty sure it wasn't anything that vibrates in the glove compartment as I have taken out everything.

Any ideas what could be the cause of it? When I drive thru a speed bum it seems okay, only rattles when driving on rough and uneven roads.

Thanks in advance.

Any Philips Avent Single Electric Pump user here can share their experience with this pump? My wife is currently using the manual pump and loves the suction power. But constant pumping is hurting her wrist, I am currently considering the Avent Single Electric Pump, but not sure if it has the same suction power or not. Any mummy can share their experience? Thanks in advance.
