As per topic, what are the good computer casings under 300. Looking for a casing one step above the budget 431plus, 311 plus, aerocool strike x advance etc (RM 1xx cases)

Hey,

I'm looking for a motherboard that has a lot of usb ports and cheap for a budget gaming rig.
Going for the default option of placing a i3-2100 and a graphics card which still deciding (7870 , 660...)

Requirements: usb3 rear ports, more than 4 usb 2, low price

Budget hopefully 400, higher possible if meet the requirements.

Any suggestion for these requirements? Most low end mobo have no usb3 and would like to future proof abit with usb3 feature.

Wireless Adapter Recommendation after frustration

Router: DIR 615 unifi

Here's a wireless connection problem I've been having for a long while, I recently switched to a new wireless adapter and found it had an even worst problem. Searching online provided no help to my solving my problem and I'm looking for another alternative wireless adapter (or even trying HomePlug which are more expensive)

1st TP Link TL-WN721N 150mbps USB adapter
I started with a new computer which was about 5m away from the wireless router in another room.
I got the TP-Link TL-WN721N wireless adapter, which was decent but had one MAJOR problem.
Problem
The problem is the adapter would RANDOMLY disconnect from my wireless network without warning, and the solution is pulling out the usb adapter and plugging it back in.
I searched far and wide by updating my chipset driver from the official website and tplink which didnt help the problem.
This affected downloads but especially gaming like SC2 where I had to hope the adapter reconnect in time before 45s expire and I got kicked out of the game. I continued using it this way because sometimes it goes a long time before it disconnects and I got full speed.
All other laptops in my house connect wirelesslu no problem, and it also happens before I switched my streamyx to unifi (and i switched from TPLINK router to unifi DIR615). Reformating also doesnt help the problem

2nd Asus PCE-N10 wireless N NIC
I went and bough this PCE x1 card since I was hoping an antenna based wireless adapater could solve my problem. Big mistake, I didn't check properly and this was a very poor chipset
Problem
The wireless would have 0 data transferred gaps, this can be seen in the image below

Notice while I'm loading the youtube video, the speed is not constant. The red arrows highlight time when the connection would still be connected but no data is transfered, during these gaps I cant do any surfing and any downloads will be disconnected. Streaming and youtube vids might continue loading after the gap but this gives a very annoying experience where you suddenly cant connect to the internet and the non-connection time is unknown.
I tried numerous method
1.updating chipset driver RTL8188CE from realtek website
2. using asus wireless utility/ using windows wireless connection
3. download driver from asus website
But the problem still persist

TLDR: Both wireless adapters sucked and suffer from disconnnection
Thus since I'm under 7 days exchange, I'm hoping to exchange for some wireless adapter that have been proven stable.
Please give me some recommendation for a good wireless adapter. How are the wifiking/signalking giant wireless adapters? I need something that wont randomly disconnect which is a very annoying problem I had experienced ><

Sharing folders properly using network or software

Personal equipment
Modem: unifi modem
Router: unifi dir 615
Firewall used: windows/none

I'm trying to set up sharing files properly between the computers in my home.
In my home
Wired
WinXP desktop

Wireless
2 win7 laptop
1 vista laptop

All computers using DHCP, static IP seems to cause other problems like still using DHCP ip instead of specified IP outside DHCP range..

Problem is after i have set all the settings properly, allow sharing, no password protection, able to access folder etc. The other computers within the network would not be found. Is there a permanent way to computers within the network is always visible and connectable?
Problems
1. Under "network" (win7) can see the computer but cant access. Cant be ping
2. Under "network" (win7) CANT see the computer but cant access. Cant be ping
3. Under "network" computer CANT be seen, but can be ping and accessed through \\192.168.x.x

Is there anyway to solve all these home file sharing problems between computers and OS.
Or is there any software that can reduce this headache.

My friend need a new gaming rig, he's not into OCing with budget rm 3.5k. Need some specs for it
He's currently using 21" 1600x900 monitor while if within budget I'd think changing to U2311HM would be nice upgrade.
As items will be gotten from Lowyat pls don't use online sellers

Suggestion build
CPU: i5 2400 - not going to OC
Cooler: Hyper 212+ - reduce noise and temps
RAM: KVR 4gb*2
Hardisk: Samsung F3 1TB
DVDROM: DVDRW which brand to choose?
Casing: Front panel Usb3, for budget choice seems 692 or 400T(which shop selling it?), any other choices? why no 690 ii with usb3
Mobo: P67 with usb3 header seems ideal, Z68 probably not worth the premium for its quick sync unless price difference not big and got other important features
GPU: Not too sure which to pick 6950/570 both seems to be good and future proof choices
PSU: enough to power and good quality

Optional
Dell 2311HM - squeeze into budget

I currently have an old amd, thinking of using it as a htpc with HDMI.

Rig (cant check spec now but roughly)
Amd athlon x2 (not sure 3800 - 4200+)
2gb ddr2
cap ayam psu (must check wattage)
micro atx mobo

What's a good and value for money gpu for my application?
Would it be suitable for my setup or shd i just upgrade/change pc?
What software/codec pack for easy setup of DXVA?

I'm using a Meelectronics M9P earphones with mic set (which has one port), but i'm unable to get the mic to work together with the audio on a single jack using my front input from my p55GD65 mobo to 690II front jacks.

I think normally for it to work It would need to split the single pin into 2 pin, but since the M9P designed for handsfree it has only one pin.

Would buying a splitter work for my item? Where can i find it, I saw the razer moray+ got such a splitter in the picture that change 1 pin -> 2 pin

Memory Upgrade

I'm thinking of upgrading my rams because firefox(700mb if left running awhile) and SC2 (~2GB) running together would sometime cause memory shortages warnings. This is together with pwm.exe(aero 300mb), live doctor(~100mb) and other OS and non-OS processes

Currently using 2 slots at 2x 2gb 1333 rams @ almost slightly less than 1600 Overclock and my mobo can add 2 more.
To ensure no compatibility problems I'm looking for 4GB of cheap 1600mhz rams

Problem is, which to choose

4GB 1 stick
Main factors
Less slots used
More future proof(can add another stick
Not DUAL CHANNEL

Less Important
Probably less OC (but not needed as running at 1600)
slightly more expensive (not too significant depending on brand)

2x2GB 2 stick
Main Factors
Dual Channel
More slot used
slightly cheaper
reverse everything of 4gb 1stick

Basically which one would be better, how much performance would i lose from using single channel instead of dual? I could get 2x4GB but that would be going ~RM3XX and 12GB ram don't think is needed for now
If its big performance hit, 2x2Gb would be better. Or else, 4GB is more useful can upgrade later don't need to worry of too many slots
I'm thinking performance hit not too big and leaning towards 1x4GB

What are your thoughts?

I'm getting a pc for a normal office pc usage ONLY. Trying to get the cheapest while getting good value. Going to be purchased at digital mall.
Main usage will be email, word processing, skype, messenger. User is non gamer

PC: full PC including cpu, casing, keyboard, mouse, speaker and monitor. software: windows 7

Gotten this so far using czone list

CPU: x3 445 RM229 Probably wont need x4, can't find x3 450/455 inside pricelist
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-M68MT-S2P or Asus M4N68T-M RM199
Memory: Mushkin 1333 RM123
Hardisk: 500GB wd blue RM 120
DVDROM: LiteOn/LG RM65
Monitor: Acer V203H RM340 or maybe s201h for RM30 more
Speaker: build in monitor, don't know durability
PSU: Gigabyte PowerRock 390W RM85 Hopefully less chance of it dying suddenly like cap ayam
Casing: Cap Ayam (RM50) or CM 3xx series RM100++ or CM with PSU
Keyboard & Mouse: About RM 60 for a4tech/gigabyte/logitech or other brands

Total Cost RM 1506

Didn't set a budget at start, after rough calculations here seems like minimum needed to get a decent pc would be around RM1500, so that should be the budget

Pc restart

After thunderstorm few days back, my pc encounters restart (2 times in 2 days).
I heard a pop sound, but everything was running fine. (couldn't locate source of pop sound, might be from other electronics like lights, ceiling fan control etc... ) but could smell something

I tried stressing my PC, run LinX and furmark together no problem. Crysis 2 also can play test.

Age: ~6months
proc: i5 750 oc to 3.8g
PSU: seasonic 520w
mobo: msi gd65
gpu: giga 460
Using cal-lab lightning isolator (still working fine)

The main question is, IF pc restarts suddenly without any bsod, hang. What are the likely culprits?
I think might be PSU since it happened based on my pass experience on old pc, many cap ayam psu will restart RANDOMLY when not enough power/old.
If memory oc problem/driver problem -> bsod
If processor oc problem, pc would non-stop restart. need to clear bios.
If gpu problem, artifacts, screen hang and gpu will auto downclock.

Sound volume unstable (suddenly goes down)

I'm having a problem with my sound , it seems to suddenly reduce in volume. This is noticeable while i'm watching movies or gaming where the sounds is constant in volume..
The volume reduction goes back to normal after awhile and it happens randomly

Speaker : Old logitech speaker 2.1 (probably 2-3 years old but quite 'new' because was in storage)
MSI GD65 Integrated sound

I suspect is one of these problems
1. driver/software problems - but unsure which to check, volume controls and realtek hd audio looks normal
2. connectors weak - tried fiddling with the power cables / 3.5mm cables but problem but no change, maybe its internal cabling?
3. power supply not stable - using a multisocket with it connected to my pc, monitor and speakers

Anyone who have experienced with this problem before can offer some help, of do i have to test with other speakers

Dell laptop cant boot

I'm using a dell inspiron 1420 (warranty expired) and I encountered a major problem

When i press the button to on the laptop indicator lights (hardisk icon) flickers for awhile but I see nothing but a black screen. The Dell logo doesn't even appear to show it is booting.
No sound from the mobo during bootup(is normal for a usual boot), but the icon lights show that nothing is loading.

Googled say it could be a monitor/graphic drivers problem. Hooked it up to my tv still cant see anything so could be a driver issue, but i cant go into windows to do anything.

Anyone could suggest possible test to do, I'm thinking of taking out the hard disk and try a new one but that would incur $$ which might not be the problem.
Is there any shops that are willing to service DELL laptops or does dell offer to service laptop post warranty(without renewing which cost a bomb)

Well sometimes if i'm lucky I can log in to windows, but it could black screen at anytime.

Anyone could advice on possible actions to take

I have 2 files which have the same video but different codec, filesize, bitrate etc..

A: mpeg1 480x360 540MB
B: WMV3 576x432 440MB

during playback file A seems to have more vibrant color(nicer to look at) but B has more detail due to larger resolution

Which one is better to keep in your opinion

Replacing notebook dvdrom

I'm thinking of buying a new internal slim dvd burner for my laptop (dell inspiron 6400), should there be anything i should note? (different connections or type of internal slim dvd drives). The old one cant burn any cds.. (corrupted) but plays fine with sometimes emitting sounds...

In addition, i would like to know if most stores stock laptop internal dvdroms..

Since many of us know there are many ways to increase a processor's speed past its default setting, I'm inquiring will the extra cost will rival a non-oc focused rig

OC Rig
- cheap(oc-able) processor
- mid-high end mobo
- 3rd party HSF and FAN
- good psu
- OC ram (sometimes value)
- more expensive casing (better airflow)

Normal Rig
- higher end processor (saved from not spending on mobo n hsf)
- cheapest mobo or mobo with features u only need
- good psu
- value ram
- any casing

Which would cost more and perform better in the end.. good HSF and mobo's can cost quite a bit

Btw all these in context of gaming PC
