Over 1.5 million students to benefit from discount

PUTRAJAYA: The Government has introduced a special discount card for local university students where they can enjoy discounts of up to 60% on a wide range of items, including food and services.

With big names in the food sector such as KFC, Chicken Rice Shop and A&W signing up, the 1Malaysia Student Discount Card (KDS1M) is set to be a “must-carry” item for students.

Others that have agreed to accept the card include Mydin, Menara Optik, Berjaya Books Sdn Bhd (Borders Malaysia), MPH Bookstores Sdn Bhd and Bata Marketing Sdn Bhd.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who launched the card here yesterday, said it would benefit more than 1.5 million students. He said those attending teachers' training colleges as well as trainees of the Industrial Training Institute also qualified for the card.

“Apart from the cards being free, students will automatically receive it once they enrol at their respective institutions.

“This is another of the Govern-ment's effort and commitment to ease the students' burden,” he said.

Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said final-year students would be given priority to enjoy the discounts.

“They should be getting their cards which can be used immediately by September. The issuance is being handled by Bank Rakyat,” he said.

Ismail Sabri said 51 companies had agreed to accept the card and the ministry was still negotiating with several more big names.

Meanwhile, at a separate event Muhyiddin reminded undergraduates to be open about the agenda of the Government of the day.

“Their judgement should also be wise and sound for the sake of the people's interest and that of the country as a whole.

“As the catalyst and mover of the country's agenda, I believe the undergraduates will choose the best for Malaysia and will work hard to maintain peace and harmony,” he said in his opening remarks before chairing the National Students Consultative Council meeting.

Muhyiddin, who is also Education Minister, advised undergraduates, who would be the future leaders, to have noble values and equip themselves with knowledge and to love the country.

Making Choices

Hi guys,
I am a STPM graduate and has decided to further my studies in a private uni. As my STPM result wasn't good; Physics- C+, Chem- B, Math- B+, i don't have much choices to choose from.

1st choice- Monash
Instead of Engineering, they offered me Business and Commerce. So, I decided to appeal for it but unfortunately they were not able to process it as i didn't know that IELTS/TOEFL is a must to enter the uni. I am planning to take either TOEFL or IELTS next week but their intake is this month, i was advised to email them to extend the deadline for my application but i am afraid even if they r willing to extend the deadline, my appeal application will not be 100% accepted. So, i am wondering if I should forget about Monash and go for other uni, or try my luck on it?

2nd choice- Nottingham.
As i said my result wasn't that good, i was again rejected by the university. They asked me to take their foundation for 2 semester and then continue with my degree next year. Question is, i will be 2 years older than most of students and i'm not really comfortable with it. Advise?

3rd choice- Taylor? Other uni
Since the requirement for Taylor is only 3C i am able to enter Taylor uni and even eligible for a minor scholarship. Still, i prefer either Monash or Nottingham as both of the uni are more recognised worldwide. If there is any other good university, please do suggest!

Any advise will be considered... Sorry if i said anything offensive. Thanks again!

Btw what is the difference btwn Aerospace Engineering and Aerospace Engineering (Quality Systems)

Urghhh i screwed up big time last year. I failed at everything i did including my STPM... I got 2B+ 1 B and 1C+. This seriously devastated me... This result will probably lead me to a local uni or a unknown uni. Can anyone me by telling me wat is my next move? Should i waste another and take A-lvls or some foundation program? Or go on with my currently result.
