Xfire 6870 with a 6950.

I already have a single 6870 now overclocked to 1000/1200

Performance scaling wise, is it a better idea to just grab another identical card to CF it because i am thinking to get a 6950 but i'm afraid its performance will be throttled down to match the 6870. I am not very sure how CF work, do they sync the core/mem clockspeed depending on the lower of the 2? Since 6950 is running stock at 800/1250, does it mean my CF clock speed will be dropped to 800/1200 or something like that?

QX9650@3.6Ghz vs i5 2500k

I know i know, back then i used to compare QX9650 to i7 920 and everybody said that there's not much diff and not worth the upgrade. I do agree.
Now that another year has passed, and the i series has matured even futher, does the same statement still applies? can't seem to find any benchmark of my proc vs the new i2500k proc.

My current rigs :

QX9650 @ 3.6Ghz
MSI Neo2-FR P35 Motherboard
4GB Corsair DDR800 @ 4-4-4-12
Sapphire ATI 6870 1Gb @ 1000/1225 (Plan to upgrade to a GTX570/6970 equivalent)
460W Enhance PSU
128Gb Crucial M4 SSD (on the way), 500Gb hard disk

My only concern now regarding my current setup is the SATA 3Gbps which is bottlenecking the SSD for sure, and the stone age PCI-e 1.0a which could be bottlenecking my future graphic card..

Primary use is gaming! Very heavy one, mostly on FPS, u get my drift

Thanks in advance for the feedback!

PCI-e x16 1.0 vs 2.0

I know this can be googled easily and i've done so but all the reviews are kinda old. I know this does not matter in the past as the bandwidth of an PCI-e x16 v1.0 will not even be utilized fully in the first place but it could be different today especially at high res gaming; and that's what i want to know.

If i were to use the upcoming Radeon 6970 on my good old P35 mobo which still run on PCI-e x16 v1.0, will my performance be bottlenecked by the PCI-e slot? Have anyone tried this? Since the card have not been released, the closest comparison i can get its probably the 5970 or GTX480. Please enlighten me.

Im using a QX9650 on a MSI Neo2-FR P35 mobo, playing on 1920x1080 res.

Thanks in advance!

Also a separate question, how much roughly does a Rampage Formula X48 second hand mobo cost?

Blogspot photo upload problem

Here's the problem. I've been using Blogspot for a while on my Firefox and it never gives this problem. Just today i realize that, after uploading a photo, i received a message saying "Photos has been added" as usual but i could not find any uploaded photos in the editor.

Thinking that it was a browser problem, I have tried using different browsers, Firefox, IE8, and Chrome. All gave me same problem. This is lead to a conclusion that it is actually not the browser's fault at all. So what is it? It's very annoying because everytime i uploaded the photo, i need to attach it manually to the editor using HTML code.

Please help! Thanks!

[WTA] Laptop with 8800GTS/GTX

As mentioned in the title, is there actually any brand that's offering a laptop with SINGLE 8800GTS/GTX card solution? All i have seen so far is either too high end (ie: 8800GTX SLI) cards and resulting in ultra expensive machine or too low for my liking(8600GT). I am looking something in between. A single 8800GTS would be an ideal one, and oh, i do not want 8700GT (SLI/NON-SLI) because they are essentially the same as 8600GT. PLease advise. THanks!

Edit : Something like this Gateway P-6831FX would be just perfect. Too bad they dont have it here in Asia.

DIY Nokia Charger

Hello, i have a few questions here that pop out of nowhere. Let's say a typical nokia battery is 3.7V regardless of the capacity 950mAH or 1050mAH.

If i were to make a DIY charger, does it means :

1. Since a typical Nokia charger is rated as 5V DC Output, can I use 3xAA=4.5V batteries with the appropriate charging jack to charge the phone up? Since for the charging to work, one must create a potential difference between the charger and the device to be charged.

2. If the batteries voltage drops below 3.7V, will charge reversal occur where the phone become the charger instead and the battery being the "device" to be charged?

3. Let's say if the charging method mentioned works, and if i were to use 3 batteries of 2300mAH capacity, does it means it will be able to fully charge the device roughly 2 times?

3. Is there any risk of damaging the phone of charging it this way?

Thank you!

Hyperterminal + AT Command

I wanted to use hyperterminal and issue a series of AT Commands to Modem so that i can established a connection with a TELEPHONE (Not remote modem). This is the command i issued:

ATDT 1234567

However, when a connection is established i can no longer enter any AT Command (i.e : send a series of DTMF tones) or i'll get "NO CARRIER" error followed by a disconnection. How can i avoid this? I have tried using escape sequence +++ but it will disconnect the moment i pressed the first + button on the keyboard. I have also tried disabling many error controls as listed in the AT Command reference list but there is no use.

Alternatively, i tried using the ";" command at the end of the string so that it will automatically return to command mode by

ATDT 1234567;

In this way, the modem will return OK result and i can continue issuing further command for generating DTMF tones without any problem. However, when i use this line, the connection will always assumed to be established and it is not capable of detecting BUSY line from the receiver, which is undesirable as well.

What i want is that, the modem is capable to detect busy signal and return appropriate result, and yet once it is connected to the remote telephone, i want it to be able to continue sending DTMF tones without risking a disconnection due to the absence of a carrier.

Please help. Thank you in advance!

[Help] Suitable Windows Software for my GPSr

I got this one GPSr for free, so i dont really know where to start with, i've went to the malsingmaps to download the Garmin map package, done some reading here and there but i still have absolutely no idea which software should i use. Most that i found are for Pocket PC, Symbian, etc but what i need is a software for Windows platform. Would be great if there is anyone out there that is willing to guide me step by step to use this device. Thank you very much in advance!

I can't seem to find the exact model that i have on the website, but this is so far this is the closest match by means of design, color and LED lights as well as the chipset used: SiRF Starlle/LP

http://www.emtac.com/products/bluetooth/da...TGPS2Trine.html

There is a CD included which include a trial software for PPC called Crux View. Since i dont have a PPC, is it possible for me to find a PPC emulator to test this program out on my laptop?

Changing FSB:DRAM ratio

Before i start, i would like to say that im just interested in knowing what i can conceptually do to overclock my laptop. So i hope that you guys will not start saying that, "nono, you should stop thinking about overclocking your laptop since it will only cause more trouble than performance gain" or any of the similiar comments because i am fully aware of that. by having those said, i wanted to learn and know about few things regarding Intel 915PM mobo running on Centrino 730 1.6Ghz (12x133Mhz) with a 1Gb PC2700 DDR RAM @ 333Mhz.

1. When checking CPU-Z, I found out that my FSB:DRAM is locked to a 4:5 ratio. Which means that my FSB running at 133Mhz while my DRAM is running at 166Mhz at the default speed. Is there anyway for me to unlock this ratio so that i can increase my FSB to 166Mhz (yes overclock) without touching the DRAM frequency?

2. By nature of overclocking, is a low multiplier with high FSB preferred over high multiplier with low FSB? If yes, does it make sense that i lower the multiplier of my CPU (by utilizing the speedstep tech) let's say to 10x and increasing my FSB to 166Mhz while maintaining the clock around ~1.6Ghz to get a better performance? Of course, DRAM frequency need to be locked in this case.

As you can see, situation 2 is dependant on situation 1, meaning that in the end, i still have to find a way to change the FSB:DRAM ratio to 1:1 and i have yet to find the solution. Hence, to all experts out there, have anyone has actually found a way or tried themselves to overcome this problem? Further positive comments and suggestion would be appreciated. Thank you for reading!

Upgrading a laptop's CPU

I have been trying to look for this around but i still have no clue about the method to upgrade a laptop processor. Im currently using Centrino 730 (Sonoma) 1.6Ghz and wanted to know if it's upgradaeble, because a laptop processor isn't so readily available everywhere compared desktop processors. So if the answer is yes, how could i get it done? Send to the Acer service centre ? If that's the case, im afraid the cost of upgrading wil be higher than usual. Let's say i wanted i wanted Centrino 760 2.0Ghz. How much would be the market price? and where can i buy it?

For those who have upgrade their laptop's CPU before, please let me know! thank you very much!
