Malaysia Airlines First to Track Fleet w Satellite

Malaysia Airlines, which lost a wide-body jet with 239 people aboard three years ago in one of history’s most enduring aviation mysteries, has become the first airline to sign an agreement for space-based flight tracking of its aircraft.

Malaysia Airlines Bhd. reached a deal with Aireon LLC, SITAONAIR and FlightAware LLC to enable it to monitor the flight paths of its aircraft anywhere in the world including over the polar regions and the most remote oceans, according to an emailed press release from Aireon.

Aireon is launching a new satellite network with Iridium Communications Inc. that will allow it to monitor air traffic around the globe. It’s projected to be completed in 2018. Most international flights are already transmitting their position with technology known as ADS-B and the signals can be tracked from the ground or space. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration has already installed a ground-based tracking system for ADS-B.

“Real-time global aircraft tracking has long been a goal of the aviation community,” Malaysia Airlines Chief Operating Officer Izham Ismail said in the release. “We are proud to be the first airline to adopt this solution."

Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 was on a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on March 8, 2014, when it turned around, flew back across Malaysia and then turned toward the remote reaches of the southern Indian Ocean. While debris from the plane has been found washed ashore on African beaches, the main wreckage was never located despite years of searching.

Whether the Aireon tracking system would have made a difference in Flight 370 isn’t clear. The plane’s location transmitter went dead, possibly because it was intentionally shut off, and the aircraft would not have been visible to the satellite network.

Aireon is one of several companies trying to make it easier to find missing aircraft. Inmarsat Plc, which runs a satellite network that competes with Iridium, offers a separate service for airlines that uses traditional communication systems instead of the ADS-B transmissions. Rockwell Collins Inc.’s Airinc offers a similar service to carriers.

Beliau turut mengumumkan pembinaan Landasan Keretapi Pantai Timur (ECRL) dari Gombak di Kuala Lumpur hingga ke Wakaf Baru di Tumpat dengan satu stesen kereta apinya terletak di Jelawat, Bachok, tidak jauh dari tapak hospital baharu itu.

"Bila siap ECRL ini, tempoh perjalanan cuma 4 jam, dan akan bawa banyak kesan sampingan, 'multiplier effect' kepada kehidupan rakyat di sini, membuka peluang pekerjaan dan meningkatkan taraf hidup rakyat. Insya-Allah," katanya.

Dalam lawatannya itu, Najib turut meluangkan masa menziarah rumah Mek Nab Awang, 72, Rohana Che Ali, 52, dan Aliza - tiga keluarga miskin yang menduduki rumah usang.

"Sebagai sebahagian daripada kempen Jom Bantu Rakyat yang saya lancarkan, ketiga-tiga mereka akan menerima rumah baharu yang lebih selesa.

"Sebagai Perdana Menteri, saya ingin membawa perubahan besar kepada negara, dan ini termasuklah negeri Kelantan," katanya. – Bernama

GEORGE TOWN: Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng yesterday said he would not agree to the idea of turning Penang into a federal territory.

He was responding to a statement by Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, which he has branded “seditious”, as it goes against the Federal Constitution.

"We will not agree to such a plan. Penang is a state in the federation and (Tengku Adnan) wants to legislate us out of existence. As I have said, I will not be the last chief minister of Penang. We will not give up Penang.

"These statements can be considered seditious because (they) threaten the integrity and entire unity of the Federation of Malaysia," he said at a press conference here.

Lim said he was shocked to hear about the suggestion, especially since there had not been any discussion on it.

"This simply does not make sense and I am shocked that he can make such a statement, especially without consulting the states involved first," he said.

In an interview with Business Radio Station BFM on Feb 1, Tengku Adnan said he would like to expand the federal territories to include Penang, Kedah's island of Langkawi and parts of Melaka.

The states would come directly under Putrajaya control and Tengku Adnan claimed that with the involvement of the federal government, they would get more funding and more attention.

Currently, the federal territories are Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan. -- Bernama

Apple has removed the battery life estimate on Macbooks with its latest macOS update. The change seems to have been made to address complaints about the battery life on the 2016 Macbook Pro, which were falling short of the 10 hours that were promised.

Macbook users noted that they were seeing between three and six hours of battery life, but that wasn’t quite the issue that was addressed by Apple with this update. Instead, this is aimed at users who were using the battery estimate to figure out when they would need to start looking for a power socket.

Unfortunately, this update doesn’t quite resolve the battery problem. All it does is force people to be more vigilant about their Macbook use.

In all fairness to Apple, estimating battery usage is not easy with Intel’s newer processors. These CPUs have dynamic power draw and adjust how much power they need based on what the user is currently doing.

One other thing that the new macOS update does fix is the graphics issues that affected some Macbook Pros. It was speculated that there could have been some hardware issues that caused screen flickering and tearing; but it looks like that it was simply a driver issue.

i dont really like acca coz acca nowadays too many already leh.

i also read that, ACCA and ICAEW nowadays not much difference. they're pretty much the same. any truth in that?

to those that are going to use tempered glass, this tered isnt meant for u.

i know that a lot of people prefer to run their phone without additional tempered glass, since already got gorilla glass..... this will disappoint them.

plus, this will also disappoint those people use future phones with gorilla 5!

ps; since the scratch-resistance-level is similar to plastic just to prevent the screen for shattering easily, might as well replace the screen with plastic. sure wont shatter one!

my original laptop's battery is LIPO with rating of 15v, 3560mAh, 53Wh

currently , i ordered the almost similar version of it, 15.2v, 3510mAh, 53Wh

will that be fine? 0.2v difference? this LIPO will stay in the laptop for 2 years, frequent battery usage.

from what i know, if voltage is higher than prescribed one, it will affect the life of the device (electrical components) right?

hey, going to do my internship later on jan/february

currently pursuing bachelor of accountancy.

period of internship: 6months.

where would you suggest me to go to?

allowance is least of concern. i am free to do internship anywhere in kl/selangor.

mode of transportation on my own: motorcycle. getting a car aint much a problem though, but that has to wait till next year's dividend announced.
but, still, i prefer my motorcycle for its ease.

so, where would you suggest?
what would be the advantage of choosing it over the other?

mid-sized firm?
small firm?

ps: i am looking to gain experience and VALUE after i graduate later. kinda like, long term planning.

Perdana Menteri yang juga Menteri Kewangan berkata, beberapa langkah pembaharuan yang diambil oleh kerajaan berjaya mengukuhkan kedudukan ekonomi negara berbanding ketika negara berdepan dengan krisis kewangan Asia pada tahun 1997.

"Antara pembaharuan yang dilakukan adalah memperkenalkan Program Transformasi Ekonomi (ETP) yang antara lain bertujuan mengurangkan kadar fiskal defisit negara," katanya.

Woman questioned for having #TangkapNajib sticker on vehicle

KUCHING, Aug 11,2015:

Police have picked up a 31-year-old woman for having a #TangkapNajib sticker on her car near Jalan Kulas here on Monday.

Kuching police chief Assistant Commissioner Roslan Bek Ahmad said a police patrol unit spotted the woman’s car bearing the sticker on the rear windscreen at 3pm on that day.

“She was not arrested but we have called her for a statement to assist in the investigations,” said Roslan when contacted.

The case is being investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code, which deals with intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace.

If found guilty, the accused will face a two-year jail sentence, a fine or both.

“Self expression has its limits and, in this instance, it can disrupt the peace of this city.

“We hope those who have this sticker on their vehicle to remove it.”

Timbalan Menteri Komunikasi dan Multimedia, Datuk Jailani Johari, berkata usaha membina negara adalah sama seperti membina sebuah bangunan yang mengambil masa lama untuk disiapkan tetapi mudah diruntuhkan dalam sekelip mata.

Teks ucapan beliau dibacakan Ketua Pengarah Penerangan, Datuk Ibrahim Abdul Rahman. Jailani berkata, satu daripada elemen penting untuk membangunkan negara ialah golongan muda harus memahami fakta sejarah dengan tepat dan sahih daripada golongan terdahulu seperti ibu bapa.

Dari situ, mereka akan mengetahui bagaimana susah payah pemimpin membangunkan negara dan bagaimana kehidupan ibu bapa kita pada masa dahulu, katanya.
