BB 8900 Repair Experience

To all blackberry users who's phone is bought overseas (like mine) or doesn't come with warranty, i found a great place in subang square to get it repaired. This guy, Lim repairs it quickly, cheaply and most important he's honest. FYI, if you want to replace your trackball this is the cheapest place in Klang Valley. Shops in Low Yat will rip u off. They charge RM80 the least, some quoted me RM200.

I first sent my bb to a first floor shop in Low Yat. My phone couldn't be turned on. At first I was told they'll check it in 1 hour, and would tell me what the problem is. They also said they won't charge to check and would quote me before any repair is being done. 1 odd hours later, still no call from them, so I rang the shop. Now they said they need thorough check, and I had to leave my phone for 2 days. Well, I thought as long as my phone is repaired, then I'm ok with it.

2 days later, I rang them in the morning, and they said it can be turned on but apparently there's a problem with network signal IC and they couldn't get the spare part. So I said I'll collect the phone until they can get the parts. I was asked to pay RM120 (which they didn't quote me before) as they said they repaired the power problem (which they didn't tell me before they repair it). That was fine by me as they did something, tho they advised me to charge the battery as my battery is drained out.

When I got home, I plugged in the charger and to my surprise the same problem happens - the problem that made me sent my phone at the first place. The phone just wouldn't turn on, even after I had it charged the whole day.

So another trip to lowyat, lot 57. Told them the problem, and they said something wrong with the battery and they'll help me to charge it. They told me to come back in 30 mins. So I return after 30 mins, walla, phone can be turned on.

What I suspect they did was they changed the battery, which I think was the real problem why my phone can't turn on at the first place. So I'm not quite happy leaving the #57 shop as I paid RM120 just to get my battery changed when they make me think that they did a hard work repairing the phone's power problem.

I looked around for a reliable repair shop and stumbled across the shop I mentioned about in Subang Square. The proprietor, Lim, said to leave it with him and come back tomorrow.

I returned the next day, and he said cant be repaired as the signal parts, which is Power Amplifier (PA) for GSM signal can be sourced. To make things worst, I DONT HAVE ONE!!!.... obviously it's shop 57 that took it out, but the question is, was it really broken? or they made a mistake repairing the phone and thought the PA was broken and took it out. According to Lim, the PA had to be taken out with some hot tools (i cant remember what), and after it's been taken out, it can't be used again.

To sum up my experience at shop 57, I paid RM120 to get a new battery and to have my PA taken out.

Lim was kind enough to explain to me about the parts, about the phone, etc. It makes me thinking of my childhood pediatrician who will spend time talking to his patient no matter how busy he is. So, he returned my phone and told me he didn't replace my trackball as I won't be able to use the phone until the part can be sourced.

For all the explaining, the checking of the phone, I'd think that I have to fork out another RM120. I said to myself this RM120 is worth more than RM120 at shop 57 as I get better explanation of the phone's problem. I was wrong. He didn't charge me nothing. It was FREE.

I'm buying the new Bold at Digi promotion, it comes with 1 year warranty but even after the warranty expires, I'm sure Lim can take good care of my phone should it get broken.

I give Lim of Subang Square 2 thumbs and 2 toes up!!! And to shops in Low Yat, especially shop 57, I will never ever return to get my phone repaired nor the phones of my family and friends....

I was browsing with my phone, and it suddenly turned off. After taking out the batt, and putting it back in it still couldn be turned on.

I put the charger on, at the beginning the red LED was on, then it turned off, and the below image appeared in the front screen.

[attachmentid=1236515]

I replace my battery with a new one, but it still fails to turn on.

Have anyone experienced the same problem before?

Any advice?
