LAN: Internet kept getting time-out

This network I'm on originally started with only about 7 computers, over the last 4 years it grew to a staggering 60+ computers all depending on the network for Internet access. So I started the network using those low-cost 8-port 10M/100M SOHO switches which played it's part back when there were only 7 computers on the network. As the network grew, I branched out the network connections to accommodate new connections to the LAN usually using the low-cost 8port switches too, because the clusters of computers are in 5s usually.

Now, if I'm not mistaken, most 8-port switches has a MAC table the size of only about 1K, I am not exactly a certified network engineer, but I think there has to be some sort of problem caused by the fact that some users' LAN connection has to pass through two (2) if not three (3) switches in between the internet modem/router to their computer.

I do get ping timeouts intermittently. The UTP cabling at the longest connection from one switch to the other is about 90 meter from one end to the other end. None of them are in extreme close proximity to any electrical wiring.

The default gateway I.P. is 192.168.1.1, the modem/router also acting as DHCP server reserving 99 sequential IP addresses from 100 to 199. The other non-reserved IPs are assigned to WiFi APs, but most of them are on Class A subnet on 10.1.1.0 net address.

The building subscribes to 2Mbit Streamyx. Currently connected to the service on PPPoE mode. Tinkering with it to use PPPoA yielded nothing conclusive. So I presume it's the links between network switches and also the network switch hardware.

Would utilizing better grade 16-port network switches (e.g. 8K MAC table) alleviate this? All switches or just the main "branches"?

Any ideas on what could the problem be and what are available fixes for them?

I need a new firmware, whether official by D-Link or modified by anyone who got it to work on ADSL2+. I noticed that it would reset and/or disconnect since early October. I am guessing that it's due to upgrade to ADSL2+ infrastructures (DSLAM,etc.) for the area I am at.

After buying a new modem, which of course supports ADSL2+, it worked perfectly fine without a single disconnect for almost a week now compared to the DSL-500G's ..erm..say maybe 40 minutes or so which thereafter requires a reboot, which would take anywhere from half and hour to two hours to reconnect.

So, please point me to any firmware that allows the DSL-500G to accommodate ADSL2+ at least in compatible mode, etc.

I kinda like this old modem/router because it has a very straight forward Static Routing. I've tried DSL-520B, the static routing sucked like...well.. it doesn't work. Period.

Please refer to my other thread on this Static Routing thingy that I'm working on. Will post the URL later.

Many thanks in advance.
