NAIM HDX enquiry

I have posted the below query to hifi4sale.

To the gurus here, a few curiosities of mine which I hope can be address here.

1.I am a bit confused by the Naim HDX manuals, it says, in order for HDX to
mount a Shared Volume the :-

“Folders containing audio files must be “shared”. Refer to
the folder’s host computer operating system user manual for details on setting
up the shared folders”

What kind of share the HDX is compatible with ? NFS, SMB or AFP shares? I am running on Mac OS. The retailer just “shared” the mounted NAS drive as a Window Network Share, in which case I assumed is a SMB share. Am I correct to assume that?

Can the HDX detect NFS and AFP shares?

2. I have pitted the CDX2 against Uniti SSD/NDX, the Uniti SSD/NDX combo comes very close to the CDX2 but still no dice. The UnitiSSD/nDac does not even come close to the CDX2, therefore I would like to try the HDX SSD vs CDX2.

And here is the million dollar question? Are there any cheaper solution out there that matches the performance/sound of the CDX2? I have tried Olive, Mac Mini - DAC - Pre Amp - Amp, Linn is out as there is no digital out – all no dice.

thanking you guys/gals for your forth coming response.
HT Buying Experience

One word – it SUCKed really really bad up to the point I wanna express this with expletive, no thanks to A&L Amcorp. It has been almost 3 week from installation and my PJ still has a yellow cast. Communicated this to them and till now no resolution is visible from the horizon.

The worst thing is, I had a Left/Right channel bias problem with the AV7005, informed them about it, they say they going to check it but after about 2 weeks of waiting, I got fed up and I ended up asking for a favor from a vendor to assist. Confirm it was a channel bias problem, communicated to them, and guess what? Still no affirmative action from them.

I guess they do not give a RAT ARSE about after sales services after all my total $$$ to them is only RM30k.

I have half the mind to chuck the AV7005 when the new audiolab 7.1 processor hit our shores. I guess time will only tell.

Thank god there are dealers like Michael & Chua (CMY) and MAX (max audio) to equalized the service standard scale, so my $$$ will go to them for a UnitiServe SSD, Naim Dac or the CDX2 and some 2 channels power amps for my HT.

The Marantz MM 7055 cannot pakai one lah….sounds damn thin and no scale, it’s only a matter of time before it gets replaced – that will depend on my TAHAN scale, once it reached about 80-90% it’s going.

I will get the a UnitiServe SSD, Naim Dac or the CDX2 and some 2 channels power amps first before addressing that good for nothing Marantz MM 7055.

As for A&L, I will treat it as a poker game, call their cards and now I know what they are made of…
A&L Amcorp = TURD SERVICE.
HT components suggestions

Ok boys and girls, Christmas is near, and Santa would like to reward me with these items :-

Marantz Av 7005
Marantz MM 7005
Velodyne Spl Ultra 10” Active Sub

Dali Ikon 6 mk2 Floorstander
Dali Ikon Vocal mk2 center
Dali on wall surround speaker

Overall, I am pretty impressed with the above but I feel the LFE is still a bit lacking. Any suggestion for the LFE? Room is about 12 feet in height, 17 width and 13 in length

In regards to projector, I am totally out – suggestion would be appreciated. (and I know there are millions and one projector to choose from…☺ )

I am pretty much certain on the Marantz, the Dali soundstage could be wider but at that price range – there is really nothing much to complain about.

Thanks for all your forth coming replies…

Let’s hope Santa comes early for Chritsmas….
suggestion for HT please

dear ht kakis, appreciate your feedback or recommendation for my "shopping list"

here is what i have in mind.

totally floored by JBL Project Array 1000, 880 and the 1500

kinda had my mind on the Bryston 4B and 6B SST2...a visit to the av design HT setup sorta sealed in the deal ( imho the av design HT setup was way to boomy...but hey to attract the crowds that surely worked!!!) If it's a 6.1 then is 2X 6B

decided on the Schneider Anamorphic lens adapter - saw the panamorph in action at av design, some vignetting was present, so Schneider here i come.

difficult choice between jvc rs15 and 25...both are really close to each other..

rotel RSP-1570 audio/videoprocessor...only drawback is 1 (ONE) HDMI out...a real bummer...any other suggestions?

a couple of notes I have.

love the spendor sp100...would you think that a all sp100r, ls3/5r and c5.2 would give me that "dynamic range and punch of the JBL's? I listen to music as well and I know for a fact I will enjoy the spendor as a musical speaker more than the JBL's...i will need to go for a full blown audition of the JBL next week...

I have audition a lot of speakers for HT, all sounded very noisy when driven loud, I am after the cinematic sound and experience whereby the sound is loud but it does not hurt my ear at the high frequency range. The speakers i auditioned were no where near clipping but the high frequencies were very offending unlike in the cinema...the sound is smooth, has the depth and still manage to retain the wide soundstage - the jbl project array 1000 had that. Any recommendation to give the jbl project 1000 a run for its money?

subs.....will have to drive to down to seremban to visit htkakis svs's.... maybe use the jbl 1500 to 30hz, then the svs takes over for really low stuff...after all svs is good for really low frequencies...

anything I missed out?

appreciate it for all your forth coming inputs

thanks

one truly confuse HT kaki wannabe...
