Hi all,

A family member is going for teritiary studies at Sunway U. We're outstation. Need to buy her a ride to get around. After many discussion, we have narrowed down to either Suzuki Swift or Kia Picanto or perhaps the Proton Iriz...

Criteria:

I) Easy to drive and handle i.e., parking senang (new driver)

II) Not a thief magnet - Important criteria???

III) F3ck RV... all cars have suxs RV nowadays.

IV) FC mesti baguz! but small car usually FC is good already right?

V) Spare part senang cari and good after sales service.

VI) Service murah and won't coz a bomb.

VII) Good safety feature ... e.g., must have NCAP many stars.

We decided against Axia coz safety feature not good enough.

Thank you.

Xuzen

I can buy two of these one, say a TritonVGT and one Isuzu V-Cross, still got extra spare cash to buy accessories some more.

Honestly, I don't know why anyone would still want those performance car...

Car Noob

Subaru Legacy

Hello,

I am a total noob to this forum.

Here goes my query to all the car enthusiast here. I am ready to upgrade to D-segment by next year June-15, latest. Of course the usual suspects spring to my mind: Camry, Teana and Accord. I have trawling around the internet for a while, reading up on the D-segments' offering in Malaysian market.

However, something caught my mind. Subaru Legacy. Read many good reviews about it but mainly from Ang-mohs or mat-salleh forums. So my question is, is this car so good? For RM 250K price tag, is it better to go Conti?

My requirement:

I) Driving pleasure. It will be more like my weekend car or pleasure car, as my usual day to day wheel will still be my eight year old MYVI.

II) Resale value is not important as I will drive it like for the next 10 or 12 years. (I rarely change car)

III) Spare part easy to get (no need to wait months and months to order in) and will not cost me a bomb.

IV) Fuel consumption reasonable within class expectation.

V) Something that will not be too flashy to potential robber like a Beemer or a Merz.

Thank you all for your input.

Xuzen

Dear all,

I posted the below at the Education Sub-forum two weeks ago but I do not have good response. I am hoping more mature (esp those who has eaten more salt than rice - Chinese idiom) can chip in their ideas and opinions:
================================================================================

Hello Peeps,

I have a degree in Chemistry from local Uni.

I have been in the work force for 15 years. I used to be my own boss for the last twelve years running a kedai runcit that was started by my late father. I sold the biz to a loyal staff and just collect rent from him now.

Now I am a General Manager for a trading company who employs around 30 staffs and an annual turnover of RM 15Mil.

Career wise, I am contented with this position (I joined them less than a year ago).

However, I feel that I can still improve and be a better top execuitive for my company. I am looking for an education which can further enhance my managerial decision making skills.

But, I am also an avid investor and very interested into finance topics such as portfolio management and risk management. I buy a lot of books on these topics and is self taught. I also am a qualified Financial Planner although I am not actively in the business.

So,

I am now in a dilemma whether to pursue the CFA program to be a better investor. It is cheaper than a Masters is also a plus point.

or

Master in Finance (Sunway, Monash or Nottingham), which in my opinion is more easy to do than CFA but more expensive, but cash-flow is not an issue for me at this time being.

or

MBA with specialization in Finance, which allows me to network with future top decision makers in the business settings.

I cannot decide on whether to pursue what I want for my own interest i.e. as an investor or for the betterment of my managerial skills.

Pls advise.

Thanks.
=================================================================================

Xuzen

Tom Davies spectacles

I am recently introduced to the brand Tom Davies spectacles by my optometrist.

It is a tailor made spectacle rather than off the shelf product.

Anyone here have use this product before?

The sound of a tailor made spectacle seems very tempting to me.

Any Review?

Xuzen

career choices.

I have two option lying infront of me:

Option 1:
After completing my Certified Financial Planner (by end of this year), I can join a boutique financial planning firm like SFP, Phillips Wealth, CA Associate as a intern for a year or two, then become a fully Licensed Financial Planner. Salary will be non-existence, as all compensation will be commission based. But this is what I love to do.

Option 2:
I have distant relative who operates a home improvement business with a turnover of RM 15 Million p.a. and he offers me a job as General Manager with a pay of RM 7,000.00/mth + 1 mth contractual + 1 mth performance based. The biz employes around 20 people.

My current employement:
I have been running my family provision shop (kedai runcit) for 10 years already. My current salary is RM 4,500.00. After ten years, I feel I am ready for a change. My current biz employs 4 workers including myself.

Can I get some input?

Xuzen

Unconventional academic route

Hello knowledgeable people,

I open this thread to ask about education option for my 4 y/o kid. I know, my kid is too young, but as the person in charge for financing my kid, I need a very long time frame to prepare for the financing part.

The traditional route:
SRJK ( C ) / SRK -----> SMK -----> STPM / 'A' Levels /SAM / Canadian Pre-U -----> University -----> Masters

My preferred route: Private / SRJK ( C ) -----> Senior Middle 3 / Private -----> LCCI -----> Professional program (ACCA, CIMA, CIM) ------> Masters

I assume my kid will fund the Professional and Masters on her own (if she chooses so, but I will encourage her to do that). I will fund her until LCCI. I expect her to start working after LCCI to let her experience real world working and to start earning a salary ASAP. This is so that she has a longer compounding period to plan towards her retirement. Daddy was stupid, only know about retirement planning in mid 30's, wasted 10 or more years earning money but no financial planning.

My thought is such, professional program cost very little compares to a university but both are equally recognized by employers. Professional programs allow work & study at the same time, so that when she graduates, she is no longer a fresh-grad, but someone who is experienced and armed with the proper academic qualification. Best of both worlds.

From a financier point of view, my preferred route looks very attractive since with little financial recourses I can give my kid a head start and equivalent academic standing.

My post is to seek the view of other parents or students who have been there -done that to comment. Is there anything wrong with my planned route for my kid?

Please comment, thank you very much.

Xuzen
Degree in Sales or equivalent?

I am curious.

We have so many different degrees in the respective business function e.g., Finance, Accounting, IT, Marketing etc and yet I have not come across a degree nor any tertiary education dedicated to Sales per se.

I'd find it strange since Sales is the most basic and front-line of any business activity?

Why is there no tertiary education pertaining to this very important part of business activity?

Xuzen

WTA the diff btw ETF and CEF (close end fund)

Hello smart people.

Like the title said, I am darn confused btw Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) vs Closed Ended Fund (CEF) namely I-Cap.

Which is better? Both seems to have the same entry cost.

Humbly yours,
Xuzen
Hello Forum'ers,

This question has been bugging me.

Let's assume an individual with lots of assets and he wishes to preserve his assets for future generation or to prevent them from squandering his fortune.

Which method of estate planning can one use?

Run it like a company ala Holding Company (Sdn Bhd) with board of directors?

or

Set up a private trust with Board of Trustee?

Thanks,

Xuzen
