Vehicle grounding strap/ anti-static

I've seen many cars with this grounding strip installed. Below is a few claims from the internet...

QUOTE

In a vehicle, it is the electrical strap that connects the engine to the rest of the car. The purpose is to make sure all electrical devices have a good electrical connection and to prevent static in the radio.
In appliances it is a wire that connect the appliance to a permanent grounding device. The purpose is to prevent injury to the people who might touch the appliance.

In a vehicle an earth ground strap is also a strap that drains static electricity off the car to the ground. They prevent painful static shocks when exiting the vehicle and eliminate electrostatic discharge ESD responsible for fire at gas stations.

Read more: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_a_ground...p#ixzz1tzMhaNES

QUOTE

"Maintains Electrical Connection to Ground"

Like a Grounding Wrist Strap for your car! No one likes that awful big shock when getting out of an automobile or truck. That shock is the discharge of "chassis voltage" built up as the vehicle moves along the highway. This type of discharge causes serious problems when it occurs at the gas pump. Every year, this seemingly innocent spark occurs at the wrong place and the wrong time: igniting gasoline vapors while fueling the vehicle. This is prevented by grounding the vehicle.

The Vehicle Ground Strap can be used on any car or truck. Simply affix the strap's clamp to the chassis of the vehicle and allow the conductive strap to dangle to the ground. Safe, durable and unaffected by the weather, the Vehicle Ground Strap maintains a secure ground and electrically neutral vehicle

QUOTE

In a vehicle, it is the electrical strap that connects the engine to the rest of the car. Static electricity is the answer! There is a build up of static electricity in your body and when you touch your door you create a complete circuit, which is why you feel a "zap" when touching the door. The static can build up due to something as simple as moving around on the seat. There are sprays that are suppose to remove static, there's the old trick of touching the car/truck key to the door and even rubbing laundry sheets over the seats to prevent getting shocked. By grounding the vehicle there is a complete circuit to the ground and no static will build up. My research has shown that the ground strap should be mounted at the rear of the vehicle against the frame.

I'm an electrical engineering student and I know the importance of grounding/earthing.

For those who used this .. worth the money spent ?

Got offered RM120 for one strip .. imported and made in Japan ..

7 Breeds of dogs to be banned in Subang Jaya

QUOTE

SEVEN dog breeds — Akita, Neapolitan Mastiff, American Bulldog, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, Japanesa Tosa and American Pit bull — are set to vanish from households in Subang Jaya soon.

The dogs classified under the “big” category are predisposed to aggressive or dangerous behaviour. The council is enforcing a directive from the Selangor Veterinary Department, according to which the dogs are “unmanageable or possibly dangerous”.

MPSJ director Dr Roslan Mohamed Hussin said the ban was with immediate effect.

He said the council had begun operations to check residential areas in the township for such dog breeds. They have even given out brochures with regard to the ban.

“Our officers who scout around the neighbourhoods have been advised to look out for such dog breeds. Once we have ascertained that a dog is from the banned list, we would inform the Veterinary Department, which would confiscate the dog and take the necessary action,” he said.

Dr Roslan said no dog from among the banned breeds had been found yet.

He believes that people could be raising these dogs behind high fences so that the canines would not be easily spotted from outside.

“Our Health Department does not have any record of those having such dogs because the owners might not have taken a licence for their canines. At present, we have 4,000 registered dogs but based on our observation the actual population of dogs in Subang Jaya homes could be around 6,000,” he said.

Dr Roslan believed the ban on the seven breeds was to prevent attacks on people.

“It is being done to ensure the safety of the people as these dogs could be aggressive. Even a small dog can bite and some homes have Rottweillers. These dogs should be put on a leash when taken out for walks,” he said.

On Jan 8, Maurice Sullivan, 50, died after he was mauled by two dogs at a farm in Penang while he was taking photos at an organic orchard.

In November 2003, a Rottweiler attacked M. Devaraj, 10, in Island Glades, Penang. He was seriously injured. Also, in November 2001, a neighbour’s pet mongrel bit a nine-year-old South Korean boy Lee Han-eul in Bangsar Baru, Kuala Lumpur. The boy sustained 15 wounds on his right arm and chest that needed several stitches.

In 1994, a three-year-old Rottweiler named LeRoq, mauled a grandmother Neoh Kim Lean to death.

The 70-year-old woman, who lived in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, died on the way to the Universiti Hospital. Part of her scalp and an ear was bitten off.

Dr Roslan added that MPSJ received 2,287 complaints from January to November last year, out of which 1,506 were dog-related complaints.

“The complaints were mostly related to safety — where owners fail to put their dogs on a leash while taking them out for walks. Others include incessant barking, not cleaning up dog excrement, no dog licence and leaving their dogs outside the homes without supervision,” he said.

He added that the council had acted on the complaints and 148 compounds were issued during that period.

Dog owners were slapped with a maximum fine of RM1,000 under the Licensing of Dogs and Kennel Establishments By-laws 2007 under the Local Government Act 1976 for not having a licence for dogs above three months old, for not abiding sanitary requirements in keeping dogs, keeping dogs in apartments and failure to immunise the canines.

Dr Roslan said MPSJ also restricted dog owners from bringing their dogs for a walk in public places, shopping complexes, religious places, all government and private offices, government and private schools and on public transport.

MPSJ has distributed brochures to Subang Jaya residents with a warning that the council has the right to impound or confiscate dogs that are taken to public places.

“Our operations on dogs are ongoing and our men will confiscate dogs found roaming without a leash and muzzle, with or without a licence. No prior notice will be issued and the onus is on the owners to keep their dogs on a leash,” he said.

Paws Animal Welfare Society Malaysia rescuer Molly Brown said the state veterinary department and MPSJ should rethink its action of wanting to confiscate dogs from the seven breeds from their owners based on their aggressive predisposition.

“Even people are aggressive and bite but we must see what leads to such tendencies. Little dogs like Shihtzu or Maltese are aggressive and can bite but this could be due to inbreeding or ill treatment while it was a pup. So, the authorities cannot just take away a dog,” she said.

Brown added that a Pit Bull, Rottweiler or even a Akita can be lovely pets if they are given love while a pup and not traumatised in its surroundings.

“Big dogs need good care, must come from a good gene line and trained to be sociable, so they are familiar with the people and its surroundings.

“The Selangor Veterinary Department and MPSJ should just get the owners to neuter the existing dog breeds as it is unfair to confiscate the animals,” she said.

SOS

http://thestar.com.my/metro/story.asp?file...e872298b556%2C0

New Cars Nowadays are . . .

Nowadays, new car comes with 3 or 5 year warranty period. Or 100,000km ~ 300,000km whichever comes first. ( some manufacturer give both )

So, the new car buyers don't have to bring their car to the lauya workshops already. They just have to go to the service centre of their respective car manufacturer to get their car serviced when their car breaks down or just for routine servicing.

What happens to the auto workshops out there ? Most of the garage dont have the professions and tools to perform a repair on the newer cars such as BMW, Mercedes, Toyota and Honda hybrids that is more hi-tech. My mech boss told me that the automotive servicing market are going downhill. They can only repair older cars. Its hard to find any later models of BMW or Mercedes cars in normal workshops. The mechanics dont have the skill to perform a repair on these cars. ( I think you should know what I meant by "these cars", BMW 3/5/7 series, Mercedes C/E/S, Toyota Prius, Honda Insight all those hi-tech cars ).

The government are going to ban imports of halfcut or used auto parts soon. So, what do you think about the automotive servicing market ? Older cars will be scraped and in the future everything will be a one-stop solution at the Service Centre because theres no used spare parts for these older cars out there.

When your car needs repairing, just have to bring it to the Service Centre of your respective car manufacturers.
In the near future, theres no cars older than 10 year old running on the road already
Cars will be like pakai buang ( Use and Throw ).

What do you think ?

Hi. My dad continue driving his car

Hi peeps. I'm darn angry with my dad now.

I'm gonna tell this to your guys.

My dad's Toyota Unser is his workhorse. He keeps driving it even if the warning engine oil light keeps coming on. Been a few weeks already.
He says that theres a reserve tank inside the engine to keep some engine oil. His Unser's engine consumes alot of engine oil. I told him already about it but he still doesnt listens to me. An engine that burns almost 4 litre of engine oil, in 2 week time ?

Last week, he went to a engine part shop to buy engine oil. I told him to get the 15W40 engine oil. As usual, the stubborn bull. He bought the 20W50, and a can of Bardahl engine treatment oil because the boss asked him how old is this car and he said 6 years old. Then the boss say old car need to use thicker oil (Dai lou, 6 years engine use 20W50? , my 19 year old engine uses 10W40 and engine oil didnt even consume a lil bit ! ) and need to add treatment oil. He says it works to reduce engine oil consumption and reduce friction.

Just now I checked his engine oil level. Its empty ! And he still drives them for about 60~80km everyday. His car clocked 250,xxxkm in 6 years time.
I told him that his engine oil empty already. He scolded me and say :" why you go touch those stuffs ? I'm bringing it to service tomorrow ":furious: I think my mech gonna screw him up tmr

So, whats the damage on the engine. Driving with no engine oil for a few weeks.

Ohh ya, he still dare to say he want to keep for car for a long time .. he say he sayang the car Dont want to stress it anymore.. want to buy mini cooper as weekend car What will happen to the mini cooper, I cant imagine.
