Need Some Advice For Organizing Run Event

Hi guys,

My Leo Club is planning to organize a 5k fun run event (While it's done by many people recently, we haven't seen one organized by any Leo/Lions club) to raise funds for charity. Trouble is, being our first time organizing, we're having a tough time seeking out a venue/route for the event. We've found a suitable park for the occasion but the management has been delaying our application week after week.

So, I would like seek some advice from you guys who have experience in organizing on the following matters:
1) Any suggested routes/areas to organize the run?
2) Whose approval should we seek? Any advice on how to go about them?
3) What are the other red tapes involved to organize these runs? (Local council approval, police approval etc.)

Any other suggestions/advice would be deeply appreciated as well, thanks in advance!

Looking for Hall to Rent

Dear all,

We're a community-based charity club/society and every year we could conduct an orientation to get potential members and the general public to familiarize with what we are all about.

This year, we are looking for a venue that is accessible as our target audience consist of high school and college/university students. We've tried asking hotels and the like however the quotations that we received are beyond our budget. Thus, I would like to ask if anybody has experience in renting public halls and if so, whether you have the contacts. It's a bit hard to get schools to rent their halls unless you have connections and for public community halls charge quite a lot.

Still, I may be wrong and if anybody has tips or suggestions, feel free to bring it up. FYI, we plan to have the orientation in late-February. The number of pax will be around 50-60people and length of event is around 1/2 a day.

There is a club in my college that's currently in plans of organizing a concert/event of their own. It's basically going to be in a medium-sized hall with the capacity of... 500+ perhaps?

They're currently looking for PA Rental companies (preferably ones that also rents instruments too.). I guess they're looking for one that is reasonably priced as does a decent job in providing a good sound.

So... does anybody here has contacts to offer? Any suggestions and tips are welcomed as well.

Hi there, if you're cat lover and feeds your cat dry cat food (Eg. Whiskas & Friskies) I'm glad to inform you that there would be a group discussion on dry cat food survey coming Thursday and Friday. The purpose of this survey is to find out what improvements/suggestions cat owners want in their dry cat food and their cats' eating habits etc.

If you participate you will be paid RM80 at the end of the session and I assure you that there will be NO marketing or selling involved during the discussion group. I have personally attended one of the surveys and I would say that the survey is fun. Not only you get to voice out your opinion, you get to meet people that are similiar to you (In this case, cat owners.).

DIY Pedalboard

I'm currently building a simple pedalboard to house my pedals, after getting tired of carrying them seperately to gigs, but I'm having a problem of getting carpet now. Yes... carpet or cloth. I've searched SS2, Uptown and 1Utama and haven't come across to a shop that sells them. What I need is a thin carpet (Looks something like this http://www.eng.uwaterloo.ca/~sdkuehn/pedalboard/side320.jpg )that sticks well to the velcros & preferbly a shop that provides carpet gluing services (Carpet glue > Super glue ). I don't have much time to look for the stuff now, so do you guys know where to get the materials??? Any carpet shops in PJ area???

Alright, every now and then we'ill get questions like "What songs are suitable for beginners" or similar from fellow members, so I thought, why not compile all of them into a thread??? All you need to do is to recommend some songs (Preferbly with its genre.) and I'ill update the list.

Btw, this is not just limited to guitarists, but also opened to all types of musicians! Please be a little choosy when picking to avoid flooding the list.

I'ill devide it into a few categories :

- Beginner Songs :
Well obviously, songs which are suitable for ppl who are new to a certain instrument. These songs would be the best choice for them to improve.

- Party Songs :
How many times did ya get hold of a guitar/piano during parties or gatherings and dunno what to play??? Everybody knows that you're a good musician but in this case you fail to entertain them. Music is a form of entertainment and if you fail to entertain your friends, what more a large audience??? So, this list is created for songs which are suitable for entertaining friends in parties or even guests.
Songs that ordinary ppl should know, preferbly the sing-along ones.
No, Eruption won't work, neither do Dream Theater, so keep those screamo, wanky, fouled-mouth, metal tracks to yourself.

- Must-learn Songs :
Songs that you think everybody should at least take 1 crack at. Classics.
