Squats : Which is better?

Been doing squats recently and up till now, have always been using the squat machine typically found in most gyms. Reason I use it is because it has the cushions for my back which help keep my back straight and aligned as well as the ability to change weights quickly, just select a plate, insert pin and go. Been semi-afraid of using the free weights and squat rack for fear of hurting myself with bad form or maybe toppling over (lol).

But here's the question, which is better? I've read that the barbell and squat rack is better since you utilize more muscle groups whilst balancing the bar on your traps compared to the squat machine where i don't have to worry about it that much. Anyone used both and noticed a difference? Or are they both more or less the same and work the same muscle groups?

True Fitness Taipan USJ

I just signed up yesterday. Apparently the joining fee is still 0 until the end of the week (End of April) Normal joining fee is 500. woo. Anyone else going there when it opens in June? Or transferring from Sri Hartamas to usj? It's double the size of the Hartamas one and has that dedicated women's only area too. (Guess i'll be hanging out near there alot ahahahaha j/k)

My friend was telling me horror stories about another well=known gym which started out great (less people, more exclusive) then now spiralled into crap-land by dropping member fees and allowing more and more members to join (initially they verbally promised to cutoff membership when it hit a certain number to not overcrowd the gym. apparently in practice they actually lowered the fees so MORE people joined and now all the branches have a population problem) I'm just hoping this won't happen with True Fitness (yeah, right.. it's all about the ringgit yo). Oh well.. anyone else going to the usj one when it opens? At least got kaki there kua... need to get off my ass and lose the gut. ugh.

Step-by-Step Wall Mural

I'm moving into a new place with my housemates by the end of the month so we were spending some time to do up the place. And being the gatal fella I am I decided to paint a mural on my new room's wall. Thought I'd may as well document the process and see if anyone else is interested in doing the same thing to their walls as well and posting the results for all to appreciate ^^ So without further ado I present to you:-

[ PART I ] - Day 1
----------------------

Firstly, prepare a suitable picture for transfer to the wall. In my case I'm painting Kakashi from the Naruto anime. Original picture is as follows...

I desaturated it in Photoshop, raised the contrast to remove light greys and then Posterized to two colors. (Cos I'm only using one color for the wall...) This is what the prepared drawing looks like...

Printed out on A4 paper with a grid to ease transfer onto the wall...

After drawing a grid on my wall with 8" squares, I proceeded to transfer the drawing with a relatively hard pencil so the lead wouldn't mix with the paint later and darken the color. I used a 3H and an eraser for this step...

Also when drawing, make sure your underwear is peeking out to balance your drawing arm.... (i'm just kidding here... )

Tadaa... completed pencil outline of Kakashi on the wall...

Stay tuned for Part II tomorrow! I'll start painting it tonight after work and hopefully have the pictures up by tomorrow afternoon. Feedback would be appreciated.
