"Free and Open Source."

I'm wondering if anyone has brought up this before, so I'd like if I can know of any traces of such discussion done here.

After a while seeing some people spouting the phrase "free, open-source", I'm wondering: do these people take "free" as in "free nasi lemak?" Sure, the original English term was "free beer," but since it's non-halal, better phrase it as "free nasi lemak." Or any "free food" of your choice if that matters.

I'm getting the feeling that some people are advertising "free and open source" as something that you don't need to pay for a single cent.

If any of you think "free, open-source" means you don't need to pay a cent for it you're most likely wrong in defining it. Sure there's a lot of GNU/Linux distros distributed for free but that doesn't mean they can't make you pay for it, be glad they didn't. Reflect on it for a while.

I wish I could expand on what I'm on about but I'm unfortunately not having enough time to expand on what's my whole point with this thread, as I got to go out soon. Maybe later I'll expand my thoughts regarding this matter.

Adobe Creative Suite for Linux (Petition)

QUOTE

Produce Creative Suite for Linux

This isn't a new idea, but please produce Creative Suite or at least some applications at a time for the Linux OS, particularly Ubuntu which appears to be growing very fast.
This is an untapped market for Adobe and would mean absolutely explosive growth in support for Linux and Adobe software on the powerful Linux OS.
This would be a big feat, I'm not denying that, but nothing is impossible. Just think of the possibilities.

Please be noted that if this comes to fruition, not only Photoshop... in which I am pretty goddamned sure some of you will say "But there's GIMP!"... but this is the ENTIRETY of Adobe's Creative Suite we're talking about. That includes Adobe Acrobat (yeah not the Acrobat Reader, mind you), Adobe Flash, Fireworks, Dreamweaver, Illustrator and much more.

I for one, even though I'm all for free libre software but there are just some times I still need the grace of Adobe goods due to my line of work (Design, design, design, draw draw draw draw!!!), I do have Windows but I also have Ubuntu at the same time, it'll be a major improvement for my workflow between these two operating systems (three if I ever get myself an Apple stuff someday).

Well folks, that's me. How about you guys?

If anyone is interested to voice out their opinion, you can go to the petition page here: http://getsatisfaction.com/adobe/topics/pr...suite_for_linux

It was created using the upcoming Debian GNU/Linux 'Squeeze' 6.0, LXDE and Remastersys. This LiveDVD ISO image can be downloaded, burned onto any DVD-R(W) and then booted and demonstrated on virtually any recent Windows PC without any effect on the existing OS. If the user desires it can be installed to the Hard Drive as Debian/GNU Linux either on it's own or "dual-boot" with an existing Windows or Linux OS. Once installed AV Linux transforms the user's computer into a full-blown Audio/Video Workstation ready to use! The User Interface features the very lightweight and efficient LXDE 0.5.0 Desktop Environment. It's well-rounded program selection covers most every common everyday computer tasks featuring a full complement of the best F/OSS Multimedia applications and Commercial software demos available allowing users to enjoy Multitrack Audio Recording and Mixing, Video Capturing, Editing and Converting, DVD Authoring and Creation, iPod Tools and much more. AV Linux also contains Hard Drive utilities making it an excellent troubleshooting and rescue solution.

Custom PAE Kernel
At the heart of AV Linux is a customized i686 2.6.31.12-rt21 Linux Kernel that features "realtime" preemption, 1000hz Timer and PAE (Physical Address Extension) support. This means that even though it is a 32 bit Operating System it is not limited to 4GB of RAM, in fact it can utilize up to 64GB of RAM! This has been done in consideration of those with newer systems many of which come routinely with more than 4GB of RAM. PAE is supported by Intel Pentium Pro, Pentium 3, Pentium 4, CoreDuo and Quad Processors also by AMD Athlon, AthlonXP, X2, and Phenom Processors.

http://www.bandshed.net/AVLinux.html

Laptop shuts down immediately when turned on

This morning I tried to restart my laptop, then suddenly when it tried to turn itself back on, it powers down immediately.

I tried to turn it back on a few times but it returns the same result, it powers down immediately. Sometimes it just turns the Num Lock, Caps lock and Scroll Lock lights on plus the wireless light, but it just stops there and no bootup sequence followed up.

I'm suspecting there has been an error in the BIOS but I don't know where to begin with to start solving the problem.

My laptop's specs:

Model: Acer Aspire 4520, bought on 2008
RAM: 4GB DDR2
Processor: AMD Turion 64 x2 1.8GHz
HDD: Seagate 120GB
OS: Windows 7 / Ubuntu 10.04 LTS

Any clues is greatly appreciated.
Uh, I'm not the developer of this thing, but I just want to ask about compiling + running it.

It's a P2P client done by a local programmer, enough said. I'm not posting the link here because I don't know if it's allowed (in fact I'm not even sure if I'm allowed to ask it here).

The catch is: not by using WINE. As in, installing from source code.

Anyone tried it on their Linux box before? Have any clues how one would go on compiling the source code to work? I thought since the source code is available I might as well try to compile it but apart from the standard "make install" method it doesn't seem to be applicable here. Any Linux gurus can help?

The story revolves around a transfer student named Kōhei Hasekura who discovers that his new remote island school, Shūchikan Academy, has a female vampire named Erika Sendō within its student body.

August shipped the limited first edition of the personal computer game in January 25, 2008, and the regular edition shipped on February 29, 2008. The game already inspired five drama CDs from Marine Entertainment, six novel volumes from Runa Okada and Harvest, three different manga series, and a comic anthology from Ichijinsha. Enterbrain's Magi-Cu Comics published nine volumes of a four-panel manga since 2008. ASCII Media Works' Dengeki G's Magazine published the Fortune Arterial: Character's Prelude manga by Akane Sasaki (Princess Ninja Scroll Tenka Musō) that same year. Kadokawa Shoten's COMPTIQ magazine has been running the main Fortune Arterial manga by Miki Kodama (Canvas2 ~Niji-iro no Sketch~) since 2008 also, and the third volume of this manga shipped in October.

JewTube CM: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5S8sv-tD3wA
