Regarding RAM X.M.P. Profiles

As per topic, i transferred from X58 to Z87 as my friend was letting go of his system. Problem is he didn't include his RAM in the system so i was thinking since i had old RAM leftover from my old X58 desktop if i transferred over would my triple channel be able to run dual channel?

My ram is a corsair 2000mhz c8 3x2gb kit. If i use this for my new Z87 motherboard will it cause any incompatibility problems? Is it okay if i run the xmp at 1.65volts? THanks ya. The specs are below :

M/B : Maximus VI Hero
Proc : i7 4770K
RAM : CMT6GX3M3A2000C8
6GB(3x2GB) 2048MB 2000MHz 8-9-8-24 1.65v ver7.1A 10312280

GPU dead?

Hello there, as my topic says i was playing Batman:Arkham Origins the other day and halfway through my whole computer froze. Ever since i put everything back to stock has never happened in the past 6 months. Anyways after the restart as soon as i rebooted into windows the whole screen was filled with artifacts and resolution was at 800x600 or some weird big resolution. I opened device manager and it said it could not detect my graphics card. I tried uninstalling the driver but the software would stop saying it was unable to complete installation. Is my GPU dead?

Upgrade GC or get another 480?

So as per topic i am running a pretty old rig with the below specs :

I7 920 D0 @ 4.0ghz
Asus R2E
Asus Gtx 480 (stock clocks)
1 intel SSD and 1 WD 1tb
Using a custom set watercooling so there's power going to a pump and 3 rad fans as well.
PSU is a acbel 900w

so basically am considering getting a cheapo 480 for an upgrade but will my psu be able to handle or just save up for a 780?

As per topic, whenever i go into battlefield 3 after a while of gaming the whole screen goes fuzzy and starts artifacting. Initially i thought my gpu was overheating as i had my waterblock removed and am currently using the stock fan. However max temp is at 90c which should be acceptable as i have seen higher on my old 295.

My initial thought was to lower the settings and see if things got better but right now before i even put any load on it it starts artifacting again.

Anybody offer any suggestions as to what i can do? thanks guys

Need Specs for Basic Surfing rig

Hello everybody, as topic i need to spec a normal pc for my friend and i was hoping some of you could provide me with some advice as to what components to take. Basically her old pc (5 years old) died on her just yesterday and she's looking for a average replacement. Basically all she does is surf, watch movies and some very basic photo editing on the pc so that's what i need i guess. My question is a dual core still acceptable or is it safer to go with an i3 setup? Nothing has been salvaged from the old rig so basically we need a completely new CPU. Budget she wasn't too clear but i would suppose something less than 1.5k the less the better i suppose. No OS required THanks for any help guys.

Right now this is prolly what i'm thinking:

Proc : i3 / the AMD tri core thingy
Mobo: Have yet to decide
Ram : 2 GB of DDR3 will be enough right?
GPU: Prolly a gts240?
PSU: Any branded 450w should be enough i think
DVD: Generic brand gua
Casing: Depends on how much her budget left after settling the above?
HDD: She's looking for 1TB so that's the only component she was more firm about.

3.5k Budget Gaming Rig

Hello there fellow sifus. My friend is looking for a new rig with 3.5k and i was hoping some of you could offer some advice as to what parts to get. His main usage is just to play Aion Online at hopefully full specs on a 1920X1080 resolution monitor.

Budget is for CPU only. He would prefer a intel based setup and i think that's ablout the only preference he has.
Gtx 295 + Gts 240

Hello there sifu's and fellow LYN'ers. I do hope that some of you will be able to shed some light on some problems i have. I basically have 2 questions.

1.) If i am using a Gtx295 right now,will adding a gts240 512mb GDDR5 for physx purposes increase my fps significantly?

2.) If you people were to recommend a setup (not taking into account the price and PSU factors) is it better to just get 2x gts250's or 2x gtx260's at the present moment. Will be upgrading to fermi when it launches and just need something to game with atm.

All views and opinions will be greatly appreciated and just for the record i have google for the relevant issues but i still prefer live testimonials over what some unknown reviewer on the internet has to say. Thanks for your time

GTX260 black ed. sli + GTS 240 physx

Hello there fellow sifu's. As the topic says, i'm interested in trying out Sli with my current setup and i have rounded up my available options to a second hand 295 for RM1150 and 2X 260 black edition's from bruceleestore at RM730X2 = RM1460. Now in terms of pricing i feel that IF AND WHEN nvidia finally decide to release Fermi later this year it will be easier for me to sell off the 2 260's at a higher price compared to the 295 so i'm more opted towards the 260 black's. I 'm hoping someone here can offer me their opinion on this speculation of mine. 260 black sli vs 295 which is better.

Another question i have is i may include a gts240 GDDR5 to run physx. Can the 295 work with a 240? Finally i'm currently using a FSP epsilon 600W PSU, according to the online PSU calculator i'm safe with the 260 sli configuration but is 600 watts enough for 2 X 260sli + 1 gts 240 + a heavily oc'ed i7?

PSU guidelines

Hello there fellow sifu's, the question i have is the min PSU requirement on the side of the box, is it a "must" to follow it completely or is it just there for reference? For example the xfx 285 states that a PSU with 650w is the minimum requirement to power the card, or the 295 that requires a 680w PSU with at least 46A on its 12v Rails. When it says 650w, must we have at least a 650w PSU or will a 600w true power PSU suffice?

Another question is if the wall socket is not properly grounded, will it have any impact on the CPU Vdrop?

Spec me a 3.5k CPU please =D

Hello there fellow LYN sifus, as per topic i was wondering if anyone could spec me a CPU around the 3.5k mark. My friend wants to upgrade his pc and i volunteered to help him check around so well here i am =D

His current rig:
Proc : C2D 1.XX Ghz (it's slow )
Mem : 2 X 1Gb 667 DDR2
M/b : Some old gigabyte mobo
HDD : WD 160 Gb
Gpu : Gigabyte 8600 GT
PSU : Cap Ayam 450 - 500w

So basically he's looking to upgrade to a newer platform, and the question is i5 within reach? Or is 3.5k just good enough for a quaddie? Please take note that 3.5k is only for the components stated above as he'll be using his old monitor and speakers. Casing will go to a diff budget i think
Btw the main usage for this new pc will be for gaming and gaming only.

Q6600 Vs Q9550

Hello there fellow LYNers well as the topic says, i'm currently using the q6600 and have been considering a small upgrade to the 45nm Q9550. I've been reading various reviews around the internet but i wanted to see if there was anyone here who has actually used both of these procs and give me some advice on whether the upgrade is worth it. In terms of usage, i do all sorts of things from photo editing to high res gaming and the like. But what i'm acutally most interested about is whether the Q9550 is as overclockable as teh 6600 and will there be any evident benefits in terms of benchmarks if we compare both procs at the same clock.

Okay guys i'm planning to upgrade my rig and i've been looking around at the currently available options. I have heard from people that i5 is the new gen "quad core" whereas i7 is the ultimate processing beast atm wif 4 core with ht for each. Currently, i've been considering the q9550 or the i7 920 but it seems that the i5 is pretty okay also so i was hoping someone could provide me with their opinions as to which would be a more better upgrade. THanks for reading

[Troubleshooting] Smoke from GPU

Hello there everybody, ytd i managed to fry my GPU (i think). What happened was i was taking it apart for my monthly dust cleanup session. As usu, i downclocked my cpu and rams to stock speed before doing so. Not necessary i suppose but i prefer to be safe. Just a notice i never touch the settings on my GPU. Now after cleaning up i put everything back into its place and plugged in the power cord into the PSU. After switching on the poewr switch i proceeded to turn on my pc. Before anything else happened, there was teh sound of a short and then there was white smoke coming out from the 2 6pin power holes on my GPU. My pc didn't post and instead shut down completely as aresult. Has this happened to any of you before? Could anyone hazard a guess as to wwhat might have been the cause?

My current specs are as follows:
Proc : Q6600
Mobo: EP45-UD3R
Mem: 4x1GB Corsair DDR2 Cl4's
PSU : FSP Epsilon 600W
GPU: XFX GTX285 Black ed.

Thanks in advance and do drop a msg if you need clarification on anything.

Lol sorry bout the topic as i don't really know how to phrase it more professionally, anyways im using a GIgabyte aurora3d casing and a FSP epsilon 600 PSU. For some reason theres a current passing through my casing as long as the power button on the PSU is open. Is this supposed to be normal or is something wrong with it. I heard some ppl saying that the PSU may not be grounded and im not sure myself. Dis is not static electricity but a live current, it's not very strong but still enough to make you jump if your leg happens to touch the casing when its on.

HDD Question's

Hi guys, i'm thinking about upgrading my HDD, currently using a WD 7200 320Gb. The question i have is, if i get a 10k rpm HDD, will there be a significant increase in terms of transfer speed? Is it worth it to get a 10k rpm HDD or is 2 7200 HDD's running in a raid setup okay d. I just do a bit of simple overclocking but i do game a lot. I don't do folding or graphic design and stuff like that.

Another question is, i read on the internet that raid 0 is for data transfer and raid 5 is better for file storage. So is it possible for me to have 4 HDD's running 2 different raid setups? Thanks for the help in advance
