Hi guys, I've been using a Nokia 2610 for about a year plus now and today when I tried to access www.bbc.co.uk on GPRS, the phone just shut off and now wont turn on.

When I remove the battery and put it back, the phone displays this message: "Local Mode"

Anyone here have had similar problems before? Know how to solve it?

Broken Laptop LCD Hinge

Hey guys

Today something bad happened, one of the two hinges holding my LCD screen on my laptop broke. I have no idea how a supposedly solid metal hinge can break, but it did.

So I need to replace this or very soon the other hinge will break due to the added stress and then my laptop will not have a screen any more

So does anyone here have any ideas on where to buy this kind of hinge ?

Great Depression V2?

I've been looking at the way the news is changing recently and I must say that I'm somewhat convinced that we're en route to a new Great Depression or something on the scale of 1997.

On one hand, we have the current World Food Crisis (WFC) where nations around the globe is experiencing shortage. Even here in Malaysia, we're seeing a rice shortage (0). This is causing a very steep increase in food prices globally, and I'm sure many of you have already noticed the increase in price of your Mee Gorengs and Nasi Gorengs.

Secondly, we see the global speculation on crude oil is driving oil prices through the roof [1][2][3]. Naturally, since almost everything depends on oil, all other industries are coming under increasing pressures to alter pricing structures and some even alter their product lines [4][5]. Another problem introduced by spiralling oil prices is that it's putting further pressures on the production and distribution of food, further increasing the price of food which is already on its own increasing due to the WFC.

Thirdly, here in Malaysia we're now seeing an increase in electricity tariffs due to the surge in fuel prices. I imagine that this is only going to get worse come August when the subsidy for fuels are completely removed, where the then market price for petrol is expected to be at RM4/litre.

So if we look at what this means for the average consumer we see the following:

Wages of the average Malaysian consumer is unchanged, but prices for essentials like food and electricity is increasing. This is further exacerbated by increase in cost of other essentials like cost of transportation (incl. Public transport) and cost of consumer goods.

So with all this pressures being faced on a global scale, I can't help but wonder if we are heading towards a big crash just around the corner. What do you think?

tl;dr: Everything is more expensive, are we heading towards a major recession?

MS Office icons gone

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,

I need some help.

I was running out of space on my C drive, so I deleted a whole bunch of unwanted installer files from my C:\Windows folder.

You know, those installer files that Windows will back up everytime you install something like Windows Update and so on.

After deleting all of those files, suddenly all my Microsoft Office 2007 document icons disappeared.

You know when you have a .doc, .docx, .xls, .xlsx, .ppt, .pptx files on your PC, all these files will have the icon of Word, Excel, Power Point and so on?

Mine now shows the same icon that Windows shows when you have a unknown extension file.

ps: I can still double click to open the file. Just the icon dissapeared.

Anyone knows how to fix this?

Guys, I need to print a PDF document in negative format, meaning black change to white and vice versa.

Print screen option dosent work because i need it to be precise.

I have tried the negative option through the Advanced Print Setup, but that dosent work either.

I really badly need this done, can anyone please teach me how (or I send you the file and you do for me... anything!)

Is this true?

Okay, I use a Centrino laptop with Pentium M 715 (Dothan). I've got a total of 512MB DDR (2 X 256).

One of the 256 sticks was stock and came with my laptop, the other one is a Kingston which I bought about a year and half ago.

Just now I ran CPUZ and had a look at the SPD (Serial Presence Detect)[Wiki] section and this is what I saw:

Could anyone tell me what the No. 1,2,3 and 4 in the pic means? Does it mean that my memory modules are running at different speeds?

Hard Disk Help

I just bought a Western Digital Scorpio 40gb HDD.

I have a 2.5" inch enclosure and would like to use this drive as an external drive.

I tried putting the drive in the enclosure and pluging the usb in.

The lottle balloon on my XP popped up and said that installation was successful and all, but I cant see the icon in the MyComputer window.

Any reason ???

Okay, I need some help with this.

I want to make a laptop cooler with 4 fans. I know they actually sell this stuff outside, but from what I've heard, the homemade ones works as well as (or better) than the Coolermaster ones.

So anyway, I'll be drawing the power from the USB port, but alas the USB can only output a 5Vdc voltage. However I need 12Vdc for the fans to operate at the rated speed, otherwise it's no point.

So can anyone here help me out with this? If you have some scematics, it would be great.
