-- Please keep your post concise to ensure a speedy review from us. We suggest 250 words or less. --

The first 6 pages of Health and fitness forum is almost entirely of bumped topics by
LYN members:
miffialie, carolwu, emilyasss
giving one word unrelated responses such as 'yes', 'care', 'thanks'.

I am almost 100% certain it was purely to increase their post count to 50. EACH of them have 50 post counts now. I get sometimes people respond briefly and curtly to threads but this is extreme behaviour of extrordinary suspicion especially when it is so obvious they did not read any of the posts in the threads the replied to.

Not to mention, they messed up recent threads and bumped old settled ones. Very annoying.

I do not know how you would deal with them (whether you warn them, delete their messages or strike off their post counts, etc) but I wanted to bring it your attention. Thank you.

Wall Leak - Please help advise!

Hello, I need some advise.

It is EXTREMELY difficult trying to get ahold of ANY contractor interested to come for small small work even if it is worrisome for me So finally, I am posting here hoping to get some ideas of what to do and maybe some contacts of contractor that might do the job.

The wall at my staircase has leaked on and off since 1-.15 years ago. Now its dry because it hasnt rained heavily for a couple of weeks but prior to that it seemed to depend on the heaviness and direction of the rain (as in, if the rain didnt face the wall or if it is only lightly drizzling it wont get wet).

[attachmentid=3270401][attachmentid=3270402][attachmentid=3270404][attachmentid=3270405]

What I cannot figure out is if it is due to the window or the wall itself needs to be filled between cracks or something?

From the photos I attached you can see yourself that from the outside, the wall looks okay except for the little ledge right at the window base which has paint that has OBVIOUSLY cracked pelled and warped...

[attachmentid=3270439][attachmentid=3270440]

About 6-8 months ago my brother (he oso doesnt remember exactly when) said he got someone to fill the sealing at window which the guy claimed was the issue. I don't know the details, whether it was inside or outside or how because I was not around... However, it was proven after heavy rain in the walls direction that it was not fixed

Any ideas how much would either (wall or window) be to fix? I am assuming it will be cheaper for the wall to be fixed and sealed than having to replace the window... The window is 71.5 inches wide and approximately 7 feet in height.

I just need to fix the main problem... I will likely have to DIY the repaint after as I cannot afford to pay someone I cannot strand seeing the wall like this anymore.

Thanks guys!

Any Dentist in KL to recommend?

Hi! I am wondering if anyone has a dentist they could recommend around KL that could do a routine checkup along with scaling & polishing? Erm hopefully easily accessible since I am public transportation bound Sorry.

It would be very appreciated if the cost would only be around RM150.. It seems I am having a hard time finding place for less than RM200 Seems to much when I really do not need much more beyond scaling & polishing,

Thanks guys

Marathon running is bad for you

Marathon running is bad for you, and it's best to keep exercise to a maximum of 50 minutes a day say doctors
High intensity exercise continued over hours and repeated regularly over years and decades “stretches” the heart

http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/he...rs-8369266.html

Not me who said it! I just thought this was interesting and wanted to share.

I was actually disappointed the article did not mention what exactly was defined as 'vigorous exercise'. I assume a persons heart rate would have to be elevated pretty high (maybe past 80%?) for more than 50 minutes (the article says "Vigorous exercise is good for health but only if it is limited to a maximum daily dose of between 30 and 50 minutes." which many people NEVER EVEN DREAM of meeting) to meet that classification..

Personally, I don't care for running/cycling more than 30 minutes (unless at a slow relaxed pace ) myself but I thought it was interesting to see that cardiologists found more damage than good done if one pushes their body to too hard too long over years. Thoughts?

Not sure where to get & what BB cream to get

I am interested to find a good BB cream that can be used as a primer & light foundation but am worried about getting something online without having tested it in person (it may look like it suits our skin & colour but we don't know until we try right?) but I am not sure where to go to see and sample any creams.

Any suggestions of shops/brands/sellers?

I never used face primer/foundation/BB cream/concealer (only use eye & lip makeup) but am now interested in adding skin makeup to my collection so any and all help and assistance in this regard is much appreciated Thanks!

How do you track your Body Fat % and your LBM?

I'm using a handheld device to check my bodyfat % (I want to know where I stand for my Lean Body Mass) but being aware of how inaccurate the bloody things can be I decided to do it over 3 days and figure out an average.

It is a little annoying as I my LBM seems to be measured from anywhere between 48.1-50.1kg (which I think is decent of my height though unfortunately, or fortunately, I will never get to safely be a lightweight 52kg girl...) and I was hoping the difference would be about 1kg... So accounting for error Im going to guess I am anywhere between 47.5kg-50.5kg LBM. Arg.

Ideally, I would like to get measured in a bodpod or get a DEXA scan but for now... So, I was wondering how other people here estimate their body fat %?

I think eyeballing is a pretty good method assuming you know what your looking at

Internet Value 75(Maxis) or mAdvance Plus(Celcom)

I am getting a Samsung Galaxy Tab GT-P1000 and want to get a plan for it but am stuck trying to decide between these two packages.

As far as I understand neither requires contract (which I like). I am located in KL most of the time so geographically I expect both to give relatively decent service speed and reliability wise.

Celcom's package is a few RM cheaper and comes with 60min free talktime & 60 free sms.

I will be making most calls/sms via skype (that doesn't count as 'video call' since I am using my data plan right?) and other apps anyway but still, if necessary, the free talktime and sms's might be nice.

However, I am uncertain about customer service for each.

I am unaware of how much registration fees for either one might be (While I understand registration fees are necessary for most businesses - I don't want end up paying an arm and a leg simply for the 'privilege' of paying them every month for subpar product and service).

Anyone interested in giving their 2cents? I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

Sick of feeling tired, large, not being able to find clothes, etc. So yeah, hoping to make a permanent lifestyle change If can inculcate good habits while young easier to maintain when older right?

Plan is simple : exercise daily, eat better, slowly lose weight (0.5-1kg/week) until I lose the 35kg(omg! like carrying a big child all the time...) in total and keep up better lifestyle. 57kg may seem abit heavy by 'asian slimness' standards but I want to be slim+toned(muscles weigh more than fat no?) not to mention my body structure is medium(not small like so many other m'sians women) so it isn't realistic to try to be 45kg as I will look anorexic

My bro got a treadmill and exercise bike last month (yes he is overweight too) for home and I JUST started using it yesterday, starting really slowly so I don't discourage myself. Began with 20minutes on treadmill(average 3.5km/hour like I said, slow...) and 15 minutes of bike(like level 2-3 resistance average) and will slowly add 5-10minutes a week so that by end of the month I will be exercising an average of an hour between both machines. I have two 2kg dumbbells to slowly work on my arms (so sakit after only few repetitions! Sigh...).

Thats all I plan for now as I am still learning about exercise but the main thing is I don't want to 'scare' myself and then drop exercising entirely. Seems alot of people start out too fast then 'tak tahan' and stop altogether. Erk. I would appreciate advice on exercise as I am a huge N00B!!!

On the bright side, I have completely stopped eating fastfood over the past 2-3 months which I have NO intention of starting again (was once eating fastfood 3-4/week with NO exercise ) but still indulge in soft drinks several times per week but trying to weed myself off the stuff by drinking lemon teas.

I think my plan is realistic and doable but would love to receive advice and encouragement from other people who have tried and succeeded in living a better & healthier lifestyle. I hope to encourage myself by 'rewarding' myself every 5kg I lose with things like manicure/pedicure/massage/hairdo/etc.

ANYWAY, please offer serious advice as I hope to achieve the lifestyle I am aiming for and I admire many of you for the discipline you obviously have. Will give weekly updates here which hopefully will make me more determined to do well Wish me luck!

Long Term Travel Round-The-World

Hi,

I am planning to travel round-the-world(rtw) starting from 2011 for a few years(anywhere from 2 years to 5 years-maybe more depending on how life treats me ) and am researching how to go about it extensively now. Several things I am uncertain about and hoped some people here would be able to help.

1. Do you know of any other M'sian who have traveled for several years and how they managed? I dont mean migrating or living overseas... I mean backpacking, couchsurfing, volunteering sort of travel.

2. Insurance: I am aware that in America and Europe (maybe Aussie as well?) offer travelers insurance so that regardless of where they are in the world they can get medical attention if they require it... Is there any insurance company in M'sia I can go to and get such an insurance? Otherwise, is it possible for a foreigner like myself to get insurance from America or Europe?

3. Banking: I am ensuring that I have no commitments(no car, no property, no debts, etc) when I leave on my travels so that is not an issue. What I am wondering is which bank would provide me with beneficial services such as ATM withdrawals for minimal charges, credit or debit cards which can be used worldwide no problem(on this-visa, mastercard or Amex? I am confused...)... I considered HSBC as they claim to be worldwide bank but only going next week to verify what services they offer. Most banks offer online banking so that isn't an issue for me... Otherwise, is it possible for me to go to America or Europe to place my funds in banks there as some offer better ATM & debit card service than here...

4. Storage: Although I plan to leave for several years, I dont want to throw EVERYTHING away. There are some furniture and large items which I would like to put in storage while I am away (Not clothes or books or whatever as those will rot and be destroyed. Plan to leave some of those with friends.) so that if I return to pick up where I left off I will not have to purchase everything I need to set myself up. Are there any places I can put it in storage? I don't mind if it isn't in the Klang Valley as I am going to be leaving indefinitely. I am more concerned about cost and safety of my belongings...

5. Finances: While I am away I want to ensure my finances are in proper order but not sure what to do. Should I simply leave my funds in FD and let it compound while I am away? Should I let my stocks be taken care of solely by my broker? Should I hire a financial adviser to help me place my funds in certain medium-long term investments so that I can maintain the value of my money while I am gone?

6. Personal documentation: Should I leave my personal documents (as in certificates, birth cert, insurance policy, etc) with family or lawyers or put it into a safety deposit box for safekeeping? I plan to leave my small personal belongings like jewelry and stuff in a SDB but I am not sure about my papers...

I think that about covers it... I would love to communicate with other M'sian who have managed to travel extensively for long periods to get some advice which I can relate to. It is different getting advice from an American or European... I plan to return to M'sia for short periods of time every 12-18 months(must renew passport, drivers license, check finances, see family and friends mah...) but otherwise I will be on the road so it would be cool to talk to someone who has done this too.

Hope some of you can help me on the issues I mentioned above.

Renovation costs? How much now?

I was just wondering, now with all the material price increases and some such - how much would renovations for a condominium which is roughly 1500sqft cost? This means kitchen renovated with cabinets, built in wardrobe for 3 rooms, 2 bathrooms redone, plaster ceiling, light fixtures with dimmers placed accordingly, etc.

A few years ago I would guess all the above would cost maybe 40K-50K? Now I dont know. Everyone, home owners and contractors say prices have risen and are there to stay. :/ economic instability and whatnot. Aihs... Can anyone give me a ballpark figure to play around with? Thanks.

Bangsar Puteri Condominium

I am hunting for a nice condo in Bangsar for ownstay (if very happy and no need for moving from KL area then may stay for 10 years if not longer) and found I quite liked Bangsar Puteri Condominium. I personally think the location is good, security is up to par and layout of condo is nice (It was the 1100sqft+- condo). I am not sure of maintanence because I didn't have a chance to look around the plot but I have heard it is very nice and green and it well taken care of but I will have to go another time and look around myself of course. I don't trust anything but my own eyes.

The condo is about 14-15 years old but seems in fairly good condition. I am tempted to knock on some residents doors to ask them about any problems they may have but that may be going to far? It is just that one often hears alot of complaints about condo's not being well taken care of and have plumbing problems and such that I feel the need to be cautious. My budget is anywhere from 400K-700K and I may even be comfortable going a little higher because even if interest rates rise I can make the loan payment (although I will strive to get fixed interest rate loan), maintanence fees as well as quit rent and assessment.

I am considering condos because I am single and feel it is safer and less hassle than a link or semi-d to live in. I am uncertain not because I don't like it but I hope to get advise if there are other condo's around bangsar that may be an equally good option or if there are any problems with bangsar puteri I should be aware of.

Plus, can anyone tell me the current going price for bangsar condos(a ballpark figure is fine also...) per sqft? I have seen some other condos with prices with anywhere from RM375-485 per sqft. Isn't that range a little wide? I know some people have done up their units beautifully and renovated but does that justify price increases of RM50 per sq ft? (Unless they installed real wood flooring that is...) I don't want to ask realtor because due to their own fees blurring their eyesight I doubt I will get a really honest answer.

Another plus point for Bangsar Puteri condo to me seems to be that it is not extremely difficult (as in it wont be left empty for a year) to rent out if the need arises and the rent yield is reasonable. True?

Anyways, if you all could give me any advise on the Bangsar Puteri condo or suggestions of other places with condos as nice please let me know! I don't want to make a purchase I regret as it is intended for own stay as well as long term investment!

Subang Jaya(SS14/15/19) & Hartamas Houses/Condos

Hello,

I love reading this forum so I thought it would be a great place to get feedback.

Although I am aware of many other areas which are more promising (within 30 minutes of city center), I am very partial to Subang properties(esp. ss14/15/19) due to the township it offers and Hartamas due to its location and 'happening' factor. Also, I believe both areas have yet to reach its potential value in terms of $$$.

Landed properties(bungalows and semi-d's-dont like links as noise travels so well... Ahem. Privacy issues u understand.) are my favourite choices for possible long term investments (capital gain...) but with the surge of young professionals -20's-30's- opting to rent apartments or condominiums along with middle aged group vying to purchase their own properties (what with so many banks offering loans...) and the increasing choices coming up everywhere one has to question if the long term holding of properties in the area will be worth it especially if the homes will be untenanted due to difficulty finding interested renters during the course of ownership? How is the market for rental landed homes?

Apartments and Condominiums are very convenient what with the security and amenities offered but I have to ponder of the likelihood of finding tenants again if they are spoilt for choice in various parts in and around the city center? Another issue about apartments and condos which scare me is the possibility of having bad neighbours who will spoil the building in general making it undesirable I know it is less likely with middle-high range but still... you never know? Not to mention appreciation for non-landed properties seem to lag in comparison to landed properties.

Aihs...

Personally, I have no doubt any property bought within 1 hours commute of the city will appreciate (look at any other country in the world mah...) but like I mentioned above the question remains is how MUCH will it appreciate and in the meantime how good is the prospective rental market in general to ensure that more than 6 months of the year (averaged out la) it will bring in passive income to cover payments(if any)?

Erm... Not looking for people to give me written in stone answers - just opinions and thoughts on subang & hartamas properties as well as the points mentioned above (prospective rental market, landed vs non-landed appreciation & capital gain, etc.)

intel core 2 duo processor T7700

Hey hey!

I got an inspiron 1420 for my bday this month and though it isnt exactly wat i wanted (a portable gaming rig) it was as close as I was going to get. Sigh...

Its not bad la... However, despite the 2GB RAM, 160 hard drive, N-mini card, 8400M graphics card I feel my laptop cant function as well as it should due to the T5250(1.5GH) processor. If you have any other suggestions I be happy to hear it.

So, I am seriously considering buying a T7700 to replace it (Although I will consider T7500 or T7300 as well) as I will eventually be using this laptop when I go overseas to study and it will be my work unit+entertainment unit+gaming platform

Also, I am currently running on the Home Basic Vista. Can anyone vouch how much better the premium/ultimate versions are? I am not sure if I should get it as I will probably have to increase my RAM to 3-4GB to make up for system...

Anyway, thanks in advance for the prices + opinions peepel! Appreciate it!
