KUALA LUMPUR - More than 100,000 people have backed a Facebook campaign calling Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to resign, just two days after Saturday's Bersih 2.0 rally.

The page, believed to have been set up shortly after the thousands dispersed from the city's streets on Saturday, has been attracting at least five "likes" per second, and hit its 100,000 mark about 3.50am this morning.

Immediately after hitting its target, hundreds of users wrote "Your fired" on the wall, directing their messages to the nation's sixth prime minister.

Since then, the number of "likes" have continued to grow and netizens now appear to be aiming for the one million mark, hoping the swelling number of supporters on the page will attract Najib's attention.

Some users even suggested that those who clicked "like" on the page would "unlike" Najib's fan page on Facebook, to show the prime minister his eroding support.

"Tik tok tik tok, the number of likes increasing just like every second," said user Iven Leh. "We can see how much we wan him to resign. He should think about wat he done wrong to innocent public in this peaceful demonstration." (sic)

Most of those who clicked "like" on the page are believed to be pro-Bersih 2.0 as the page's wall was showered with angry comments against how the administration had dealt with Saturday's rally.

"Najib, I strongly urge you to view the official fan page of Bersih 2.0 and eat every word you've spoken. No physical contact? No brutality? Or your definition of brutality is a genocide, so this is too light to be called brutality?" said user Kenny Chong.

Najib had denied any physical violence by the police, while a minister in his Cabinet, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, had praised them for their swift action in maintaining peace and public order.

The prime minister had also spent time on Sunday to visit the streets of Kuala Lumpur, which, just 24 hours before, had been a centre of mayhem when protesters clashed with riot police.

Pundits have predicted that the prime minister's high approval ratings may dip following the rally, which Bersih 2.0 has described as "Malaysia's single most defining moment in recent history".

Najib's ratings soared to a record high of 72 per cent in May last year, appearing to return some shine to Barisan Nasional's (BN) armour, after he launched his 1 Malaysia platform to celebrate racial diversity and introduced a slew of initiatives to boost economic reform.

It dipped slightly in December last year to 69 per cent after the government began to cut subsidies for daily essentials such as fuel, gas and sugar. THE MALAYSIAN INSIDER

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 1,667 people had been detained in the Bersih rally here Saturday.

They included 1,500 men, 151 women and 16 children who had accompanied them.

City police CID chief Datuk Ku Chin Wah said all the detainees were expected to be released by 9.30pm Saturday.

They were among thousands of protesters who had gathered in several areas here to march to Stadium Merdeka.

Police had since Friday have sealed off all major roads leading to the heart of the capital, telling people to stay away from any rally Saturday.

Commenting on the rally, IGP Tan Sri Ismail Omar said as a result of steps police had in place only about 6,000 managed to gather unlike the crowds seen in the 2007 Bersih rally.

“We were not rough towards the crowd and we gave ample warning but they kept on provoking.

“I was told there are allegations of high handedness or police brutality by certain quarters and I urge those making such allegations to lodge reports and we will act against any of my men if there is any truth," he said.

Ismail said the demonstrators begun gathering at around 9am but their numbers grew at two locations by 2pm.

He said police managed to control the situation and by 5pm most of the crowd had dispersed.

Among those detained for questioning was Bersih 2.0 chairperson Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan, along with PKR deputy president Azmin Ali, Subang MP PKR Sivarasa Rasiah and Batu MP Tian Chua.

PAS leaders who were detained included president Datuk Seri Hadi Awang, Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh, PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu and vice presidents Datuk Mahfuz Omar and Salahuddin Ayub.

Malay rights group Perkasa chief Datuk Ibrahim Ali said they did not take hold a rally as planned earlier in the week to counter the Bersih rally as they did not have a permit.

Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin led a group of Patriot supporters to also counter the Bersih rally.

The group dispersed after police stopped their march and fired tear gas and water cannons at them.

Bersih steering committee member Subramaniam Pillay said the rally was a success and some 50,000 people participated.

Earlier, Syed Zainal Abidin in his speech mentioned that Proton will emphasise on "Cheap selling price with cheap maintenance parts" principle to prevent having problems with expensive parts for cheap cars.

He stated that proton has been planning to move the company's market to foreign country. The target is to increase Proton's foreign market share to 72% by 2016. Currently foreign and local market are equal.

"UAE, India, China and Middle Eastern country is our targeted foreign market."

Syed Zainal stated that Proton is facing a shortage of qualified personnels instead of planning and funding when moving to foreign market.

Would ask to ask anyone here enrolled into Brickfields Asia College A-levels (April Intake)? Orientation would be on the 4th-6th April (10-5pm) and Class will commence on 12th April. Wanna meet my future classmates =D So far haven't seen anyone in LYN talking about they enrolled for BAC A-levels (April Intake) yet. =(

One Academy Interior Design not recognised by MQA?

Hello Everyone,

Some things that I'm not really sure.

I've a friend of mine wanting to go for interior design course in The One Academy. I've went into the MQA Government website and I was unable to find the Interior Design Course being accredited by the Government / MQA. I tried going into the JPA website and the same thing I was unable to find the Interior Design Course in the list. So, I would like to ask that does the Interior Design Course in The One Academy being recognized by the Government?

Those people that know the answer please do let me know ya or maybe I did made some mistake and din't see clearly that the interior design course is actually in the list.

Question Regarding A-Levels

If I'm taking A-Levels (Law, Business, Economic, Acounting) at BAC, Will it be recognised by every Universities and College if I happen to find out I'm not fit to take law and decided to use my A-level result to apply for other degree programmes in other Univerisities or College.

Hello Everyone,

I've just completed my SPM and I'm currently waiting for my SPM results. I've already made my decision to go into taking Law. So, I'll be going for A Levels next year as it is a requirement for it to go for a Law Degree. However, I've some questions to ask as I'm not quite sure about it.

Which College / Universities is the best for IT

Hello Everyone,

I'm currently interested in taking up IT Course. From what I know, I've to take Diploma in Information Technology 1st and then I'll be able to proceed to take my degree either on Degree in Information Technology or Degree in Information System.

Can anyone that are currently taking IT courses / experienced give some suggestion on which College / Universities will be the best?

I've heard that APIIT is quite good.

Sunway University I'm not quite sure.

C901 - Has Xenon

C903 - Slide and has GPS, Doesn't have Xenon. Other function are same as C901

C905 - Has everything except for Front Camera. But I heard many negative comments from that Phone. So I need those C905 Users that have bought the phone on Oct , Nov or Dec. Please give some feedback about that phone. Thanks

BIOS always auto resets my Date and Time (SOLVED)

Dear Lowyat Forummies,

I would require your help here. Is there any solution for this? After I've shut down and switched off my computer power and turn it on again the next day, My BIOS will always auto reset my Date and Time. On the BIOS loading screen, It will let me choose either pressing F1 to enter BIOS setup to adjust the date & time or F2 to load default settings. If I press F2, all the date and time in my computer will all go to 1st of January 2002. Any solution on how to fix this? Your help is muchly appreciated. Thanks everyone

When would Streamyx change to fibre optic?

Oh well guys, seems like streamyx is damm slow compared to other countries. Other countries are already using Fibre Optic Wires and their Internet Connection speed is really fast so when would be Malaysia's turn that the Gov would make streamyx change to Fibre Optic wire so that people would stop complaining about the speed and they can enjoy high speed connection internet.

Well, do you think WiMax will come to Cheras Area before 31st December 2008? as the picture below, it says Cheras is coming soon how but soon will it be ? O.o

Anyway I don't think they will be able to cover the whole area of Cheras, maybe just some part.
