Problem details
So i'm planning to open a cafe with about 40 computers. Suggestions and advice regarding hardware choices would be appreciated.

A few questions that i currently have in mind:

a) Switches
Could you guys explain to be the difference between using a cheap switch such as this, compared to getting something more expensive such at this?

b) Routers
I'm currently looking at this. Would this suffice for 40 computers?

My knowledge in networking is quite limited and there are many things that i am not quite clear of, so any advice and suggestions would definitely be helpful! If there's anything that you would like to know that would help you guys give a better answer I'd be more than glad to answer them. Looking forward to your reply!

On the one hand there's the ASUS 670 at RM1449, and on the other there's the SAPPHIRE 7970 vapor-x at RM1479. Which one do I go for?

My intention for making this purpose is to simply play my games at higher framerates at, if possible, the highest vidoe settings possible.

The long-awaited FXO Mamakcraft is finally here in Malaysia.

Date: 12th February 2012

The FXOpen Invitational Series #5 Finals will be broadcasted one day earlier than the scheduled broadcast online, so we'll get to watch the finals before everyone else!

Further details to be posted on Monday. Tell us what you would like to see and what you would NOT like to see in this upcoming event! Voice out your opinions, so that we'll know your "wants" and "not wants" !

Also, this specific broadcast is a "trial run" to gauge the potential success of this event. So, the more people, the better!

*Update:-
The Saturday broadcast has been cancelled because of a football match, there will only be a Sunday broadcast, making this a ONE DAY EVENT.

Pseudo-LAN for Starcraft II Incoming?

So apparently players from China have managed to reverse-engineer Blizzard's Battle.net 2.0, which basicly enables them to create their own server, sort of creating a pseudo-LAN network for players to play WITHOUT the need of internet connection.

Building a rig for gaming

So my desktop died a few months back, and all i have is my laptop, which I'm using for college and temporarily playing SC2 on it. I'm planning to have a new rig built after i finish my pre-U finals and after some reading up, this a list I managed to sketch up.

GPU: ATI 6870: ~RM800
Chipset: Gigabyte 770: ~RM250
Processor: Phenom X4 965 BE: ~RM550
PSU: Corsair 600W: ~RM450
HDD: Western Digital 2TB: ~RM325
RAM: Corsair Gaming x2 2GB DDR3: ~RM250
Monitor: ? : ~RM800
Casing: ? : ~RM100

So as you can, it's still a rough estimation;
I would appreciate it if you guys will spare some time to have a looksee at this list and tell me if there's any 'bad' choices or if there's any improvement to be made. I'm trying to not spend past the RM3500 line to get this built.

Determining which is the limiting factor for my PC

I've been reading about the newer hardware being manafactured these days, so i'm considering upgrading my computer by another step or so. I'm trying to determine which factor is limiting my desktop, is it the CPU or the GPU?

My desktop's specs are:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz
4GB RAM
8800GT graphic card

So you label yourself as the typical Malaysian, and like all 'typical Malaysian gamers' you buy pirated games at your nearby shop for only RM9.99. You laugh at those people that waste their money on original games with really pretty boxes n' stuff. You go back with your Call of Duty 7: When Pirates Strike that you just bought for RM9.99. You install it, crack it, and run it. And then you ask yourself, what would it feel like to actually own a game legally? You then feel your wallet melting. "nah, it's too expensive" Your life goes on.

I guess it's safe to say that 95% of Malaysian gamers have never bought games that are original. Instead they buy pirated copies at their local game shops for RM10 or so. I myself have never bought any original game besides World of Warcraft, since you can only play on retail servers by buying a genuine one anyway. The question is, how many of us gamers here actually buy original games instead of pirated ones? This topic has been bugging me recently, and with all the new games being released by high acclaimed developers soon such as Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age: Origins and Modern Warfare 2, there's no doubt that most players out there will be getting pirated copies or through torrents.

Also, although many of us out there would really like to get an original copy of a game, most of us just can't get ourselves to pay RM150 for just a game, when you can get a pirated copy for only RM10 or so.

What are your thoughts on this? And why? I'm trying to get myself to buy original games instead but have failed miserably so far.

True. Time is not something that I have now that I am working. Working at a education institution, my working days are usually 7 days a week. I am not really complaining, pay is good and I usually have time to hang out with friends and stuff. But it also means that I have limited time at home, and more importantly in front of my gaming PC.

So I learn to appreciate what I WANT to play. Usually I choose games that are long in replaybility. rFactor, GRID, TF2, Burnout Paradise, the long timeframe in which I can play all of those offsets the price that I paid to acquire it. rFactor for example was with me since my varsity days in 2005. In turn I also dropped games that I DON'T really want to play. RTS, RPG, I found that I don't really have time to play all that, thus I found that I don't even care about them nowadays. If I don't play it, why even bother buying right?

And that's where game DEMO comes in. To know what I want to buy, I can easily get a DEMO, and if it impresses me, I get it. If not, like HAWX, oh well, money well not spent right? Besides, most of the demos such as Burnout Paradise is actually the full game, but locked, and I can easily unlock it if I want to get the full version by getting the original key.

Also with original, I can use any patch they release IMMEDIATELY. I don't have to wait a day, a week or a month for some cracker to release a cracked version for me to play whenever I want to patch my game. Nor I don't have to waste my time opening a thread here asking wether or not I can play pirated games online with my friend. I know I can.

In the end, it's an easy issue. Just people in Malaysia is too stingy and have no sense of money management. Thus they have created this mindset that they MUST have everything for free. Oh well, have fun stealing then. No matter what you stay, the software is a property of someone else. And to use it without paying is as the same as to go in your neighbour's house and start to use stuffs in his house without asking. Actually it's more non-ethical than that, but not let's get too muc into it shall we?

Well I'm kinda take the undang test for driving soon. And i heard that if you fail the colour tes,t you fail the whole thing. The thing is, I'm not completely colourblind, i just can't differenciate certain shades of colours, therefore i can't see some of the numbers in those tests. What do i do?
