QUOTE

KUALA LUMPUR, June 4 (Reuters) - Malaysia's stock exchange operator Bursa Malaysia halted trading in the shares of Measat Global Bhd (MTCB.KL) on Thursday after its share price jumped 53 percent, and issued a query on the unusual market activity.

In reply, Measat, which operates Malaysia's only satellite system, said it is unaware of any reason, rumour or report which could have contributed to the increased trading activity.

"There is no corporate development relating to the group's business and affairs that has not been previously announced that may account for the unusual market activity, including those in the stage of negotiation/discussion," the company told Bursa Malaysia.

Measat is controlled by Malaysia's second-richest man, Ananda Krishnan, who also owns the country's largest mobile phone service operator Maxis Communications.

Earlier this week, Maxis was rumoured to be seeking a re-listing on the Malaysian stock exchange via an injection into Astro All Asia Networks (AAAN.KL), a pay-TV operator also owned by Krishnan.

Maxis later issued a statement saying it was unaware that its shareholders were planning the re-listing.

Measat shares were at 1.85 ringgit when they were suspended and trading will resumes tomorrow.

Reuters
http://www.reuters.com/article/rbssTechMed...R50113420090604

Now want to relist Maxis? Want the public to inject funds to save the company issit?

Also the suggestion to merge ASTRO with Maxis earlier was also a cost cutting move to slash jobs and reduce staff counts.

Anaconda, so desperate nowadays meh?

QUOTE

JOHOR BARU: More than 1,500 people from Sarawak working in Singapore have been retrenched in the past few months because of the global economic crisis which has caused the island's economy to shrink 19.7 per cent in the first quarter of this year.
Some of the retrenched workers have found jobs in factories around here, while others remain unemployed.

Some have returned to their hometowns.

"Most of them were involved in the oil and gas industry," United Dayak Iban Organisation Malaysia chairman Sai Melaka said yesterday.

He said about 800 of the workers had yet to return to Sarawak as they were optimistic about Johor's economy.
Sai said workers with at least 10 years of experience in their respective fields could contribute to the development of Johor, especially Iskandar Malaysia.

Unfortunately, he said, 60 per cent of the workers did not have any certificates and this would make it difficult for them to grab employment opportunities in the development region.

The organisation which lo-oks after the welfare of workers from Sarawak, especially Ibans, expressed the hope that the Johor government would give them places in the vocational training scheme introduced early this year for retrenched workers.

Sai also urged the state government to take in workers from other states to work in Iskandar Malaysia, instead of recruiting foreign workers.

"Foreign labour may be cheap but we have to think of the welfare of our own rakyat first. Furthermore, the money will be spent in the country and will spur the economy, not remitted to other countries like when you employ foreign workers." -- Bernama

Source:
http://www.nst.com.my/Tuesday/National/255...icle/index_html

This ONLY accounts for Sarawakian Malaysians.
They didn't mention the total number of Malaysians retrenched from Singapore's O&G industry.

Difference in Education Quality

Take a look at today's Help University's Graduation List Center Page Pullout in the Star.

Among all the universities take note of The University of Queensland(UQ), Sheffield University and UniSA(University of South Australia).

Note that none of the Malaysians ever got first class honours or distinction among the list.
There was only one Bachelor of Engineering student from UQ. That was also just a normal graduate without honours or distinctions.

Do you now notice the strict and high standards practice by good universities?

The only university which you probably saw getting first class honours in the page were from less prominent ones such as the East London University which has the most students attending the graduation ceremony.

Malaysian standard?
We have news like 300 Dean List recipients this year alone from UUM.
http://thestar.com.my/metro/story.asp?file...57996&sec=North

Singapore and Malaysia Worlds Apart

Planning of Next Generation Fiber Networks Between Malaysia and Singapore are worlds apart.

Our fiber network will be fully monopolized by TM while Singaporeans will have a whole list of isps to choose from when their network is ready.

Their aim is 1 Terrabits per second ours is 1 Gigabits per second.

Singapore:

Name: Next Generation National Broadband Network.
FTTP, but apparently no decision on active (P2P) or passive (PON) yet.

Targets: 1 Gb/s, reaching 60% by 2010 and 95% by 2012; universal service obligation from 2013.

Passive layer (NetCo): to be built by OpenNet, a consortium of SingTel (30%), Axia (30%), Singapore Press (25%) and Singapore Power Telemedia (15%); maximum state subsidy SGD 750m. Wholesale prices: 15 SGD/mo for residentials, 50 SGD/mo for businesses, no connection fee. Furthermore, SingTel will be allowed/forced to spin-off ducts and other infrastructure into an AssetCo. OpenNet will lease those assets from AssetCo.

Active layer (OpCo): winner to be announced 09Q1 (bidders: BT, DT, SingTel, Axia, StarHub, MobileOne, City Telecom); maximum state subsidy SGD 250m.

Service layer (RSPs): to be announced.

Malaysia:

Name: High Speed Broadband (HSBB) Project.
FTTH, EPON.

For high-density areas only. Target: 1.3m homes passed by 2012.

State to subsidise around 20% of the total cost ($3.3bn), Telekom Malaysia to be the rest.

No open access (regulatory holiday) until September 15, 2015.

**This report was written by an European analyst from The Netherlands. Not a personal opinion by me
http://telcommunicator.blogspot.com/2008/0...rlds-apart.html

Bodohnya orang TM.

As the title of the thread mentions,

TM's network is out of control today. Too many issues and problems since December last year.

They are giving up and allowing other isps to offer ADSL to customers such as Jaring.

What a loser ISP indeed.

Comp Science & IT Staffs Considered Engineers?

I don't think Comp Science and IT line people should hold engineering posts in companies.

They are not REAL engineers.

Instead of calling them engineers, there are better names like Analyst, Consultant, Programmers or whatever.

IT and Comp Science courses are only 3 years in length whereas an Engineer needs to do 4 years to get the recognition. The Board of Engineers does not recognize CS/IT students as members.

Anyone agrees with me?

5 Signs Your Job Is in Jeopardy

5 Signs Your Job Is in Jeopardy

Below are five signs your job is in jeopardy.

Mergers and Acquisitions

Mergers and acquisitions can mean only one thing to employees: duplication. In all likelihood, there is someone in the other company performing a similar job to the one you have in your company. In the end, only one of you will be left standing. Never assume that person will be you.

Comment: When companies merge, there'll sure be duplication in job roles. No company will pay a few staff to do a single job. Senior staffs can't avoid this cut costing measure as well.

Jaguars Become Rabbits

A clear sign that your company has fallen on hard times is when the president trades in his posh Jaguar for a Volkswagen Rabbit. He may be telling everyone he is making the switch to conserve energy. Don't believe it. This is a drastic cost-cutting measure. Your job may be next.

Comment: This example is just using your boss car as an example. There are many signs such as your boss losing his claims or rejected by HR, drastic reduction in monthly allowance , new company direction which require staffs to cut spending..etc.

People No Longer Seek Your Opinion

You used to be the "go to" person when people were seeking advice on critical projects. Now they seem to go to everyone else but you. Do they know something you don't know? Has your name been added to the layoff list?

Comment: It's understandable, no one in your department talks to you anymore except handing out your daily task and your boss calling you into the room frequently to hear your updates/work progress. You feel like a robot.

You Are No Longer on the Invite List

Your calendar used to be filled to the brim with meetings. Now you have time on your hands to sneak in a manicure. Yet, everyone around you seems to be constantly in meetings. If you've gone from being an "A Player" to barely being ranked, then it's a clear sign you are no longer indispensable.

Why wait to be escorted out the door? Now is a good time to see what else is out there.

Comment: Company activities such as trainings and staff improvement activities. Have you been through a situation when you see your colleagues were being invited to attend company meetings/trainings and they left you out from their list?

Your Competitors Are Slicing Their Workforces

Constant pruning by your competitors is a sign that your industry is in despair. Take the airline industry. Grounded flights, decreased services, and a reduction in the number of travelers can only mean one thing to employees in this industry. More layoffs on the horizon. It's only a matter of time before your company jumps on board.

Comment: Not much comment on this but if a certain company in a relevant industry does something, there's sure to be others who will follow the trend. A good example would be the electronics industry today.

Don't be caught waiting for the ax to fall. Be alert and notice the signs that your ties with your employer may soon be severed.

Source: Yahoo Hotjobs Section
http://hotjobs.yahoo.com/career-articles-5...in_jeopardy-603

3 Describing Words About TM Streamyx

Greed - Overselling their services when they know that capacity is not enough to cater for the market.Implementing various throttling methods just to curb the problem without knowing the overall outcome to other light users as a whole.

What do they get in the end?The whole Streamyx community is today swearing at them.

Cronism - Ever wondered how a lousy modem like the Riger could ever win the contract to supply TM?If you are a vendor dealing with them you'll know that it takes more than presentations and product quality strike a deal with TM. It all boils down to interests, colour and advantages at the end.

Incompetent - Name me a service from TMnet which is usable? Their internet, email services, antivirus/spyware solutions are a joke. I have no idea how the hell I got flooded with spams the last time when I have never told or used the email address to fill in any forms before.

They say their internet services are offered on a best effort basis, but when you demand some further explanation they tell you to go to a local speedtest server to prove it to them.Of course, you're going to get more than 80% speed all the time.

My Youtube videos cannot stream without few minutes of buffering while my China mp3 links only give me single digit KILO-bytes does not justify any BEST EFFORT.

I don't even want to think about streaming international radio stations and tv channels. It's a DREAM if I could get them to work.

In fact the whole broadband services offered by TMnet is out rightly unprofessional.
Look at Singtel's MIO TV, when will TMnet roll out a similar to that level?
So far their IPTV and VOIP has yet to pull off with much success.
