Political coalitions and parties in GE15

I was going through the list of parties and coalitions and it reminded me of what En Lee Kuan Yew said as a Malaysian in parliament in 1965....and it was supposedly articulated in Malay.

QUOTE

How does the Malay in the kampong find his way out into this modernised civil society? By becoming servants of the 0.3 per cent who would have the money to hire them to clean their shoe, open their motorcar doors? … Of course there are Chinese millionaires in big cars and big houses. Is it the answer to make a few Malay millionaires with big cars and big houses? How does telling a Malay bus driver that he should support the party of his Malay director (UMNO) and the Chinese bus conductor to join another party of his Chinese director (MCA) – how does that improve the standards of the Malay bus driver and the Chinese bus conductor who are both workers in the same company?

If we delude people into believing that they are poor because there are no Malay rights or because opposition members oppose Malay rights, where are we going to end up? You let people in the kampongs believe that they are poor because we don’t speak Malay, because the government does not write in Malay, so he expects a miracle to take place in 1967 (the year Malay would become the national and sole official language). The moment we all start speaking Malay, he is going to have an uplift in the standard of living, and if doesn’t happen, what happens then?

Meanwhile, whenever there is a failure of economic, social and educational policies, you come back and say, oh, these wicked Chinese, Indian and others opposing Malay rights. They don’t oppose Malay rights. They, the Malay, have the right as Malaysian citizens to go up to the level of training and education that the more competitive societies, the non-Malay society, has produced. That is what must be done, isn’t it? Not to feed them with this obscurantist doctrine that all they have got to do is to get Malay rights for the few special Malays and their problem has been resolved. …

I look at at the coalitions and actually really, the key component parties i.e.

UMNO
Bersatu
PAS
PEJUANG
Countless borneo based indigenous parties
Whatever incarnation PAS is today
and the smaller players like
PUTRA
BERJASA

All of them have stated intentions to "fight and champion for bumiputera rights" in some shape and form. What does that really mean? Seems like everybody is fighting for the same cause, isn't it getting a little bit crowded? Given that there's only so many malays and bumipuetras and it's not like these parties can do a market expansion to indonesia lol.
Like really what's truly the differentiating factor here? Every bsuinessperson and entrepreneur knows that if you start selling the same product and service, you'll gonna find yourself running into uncompetitiveness soon. They will start to out-malay, out-bumiputera, out-islam each other......

It's obvious to me that the malay and bumiputera electorate gotta recognize this and what it means to them. Clearly, as the system is stood up and the narrative played, they have a fiduciary duty, more so than the chinese, indians and the lain-lain to not fuck up the country.

It's also obvious that the way forward is to present well-thought out solutions to solve for 21st century challenges. En Lee called it out nicely, how does voting for someone with the same skin colour as yours actually make your life better? He called that out in 1965, almost 60 years ago when the world was a very different place. The chinese and indians know that just because he's the same colour as I, doesn't mean this bro is gonna watch my back......

If janji/asal orang kito pegang is your thing, but many people wanna pegang, so many tangan wanna pegang whatever that alat dipegang is...doesn't it sound and look fundamentally wrong?

HK school curriculum

QUOTE

Students should be taught about national security offenses and dissuaded from taking part in class boycotts for political causes, according to new Education Bureau directives.

The bureau sent a curriculum framework and guidelines about national security education yesterday to schools for the first time since Beijing imposed the national security law on Hong Kong last June.

The law states that the government has a responsibility to promote national security education in schools and universities.

The bureau said all schools should comply with the requirements of specific measures, except for international schools as well as other private primary, secondary schools and kindergartens offering solely nonlocal curricula.

The curriculum is expected to be launched in the 2022-23 academic year, to be put into existing subjects instead of a new national security subject.

Under the curriculum framework, lower primary students will have to learn the names of the four national security offenses - secession, subversion, terrorism and collusion with foreign forces.

They should also learn about the etiquettes of flag raising and anthem singing, one country, two systems, the origin of the Basic Law and the importance of the security law.

Upper primary pupils will study the relationship between China and Hong Kong and the purpose of the security law.

They will also learn about China's geographical characteristics, understand the importance of homeland security and study historical events that have an impact on society, including the Opium War and economic reform.

Lower secondary students will learn about the definition and importance of national security, and that the central government has the power to handle national security issues in Hong Kong.

They will further study in upper secondary about the challenges China is facing when participating in international affairs and current issues, including territorial disputes and economic crises.

Waiting for some idiots to cry brainwash.........bloomberg, financial times, all press in the west are definitely insinuating so......

The last time i check, if you apply to be an american, british or canadian citizen, you gotta learn about about the country, institutions, history and culture and take a test before you can be a citizen.

Closer to home......Msia and SG also got elements in the curriculum to memupuk kecintaan kepada negara.....How you must behave when you sing the negaraku, handle the jalur gemilang etc. Would like to see what happens to you if you disrespect the msian flag in msia and the SG flag in SG....lol

I don't see what's so wrong to tell the story about the opium war........HK colonialism, the joint declaration and the basic law........

But you know......people will always point the shit in the chink's eyes that to consider their own shortcomings and problem.

Pathway to Canada

QUOTE

New temporary and permanent pathways for Hong Kong youth

Canada will expedite the processing of permits for young people from Hong Kong who are eligible and want to come to Canada to work or study. We have already seen an increase in study permit applications in the first half of 2020 compared to 2019, and the government will continue to promote this opportunity.
In addition to the existing work and study options for Hong Kong youth, a new work permit initiative specific to Hong Kong youth will provide open work permits of up to 3 years in duration, with eligibility criteria centred on post-secondary education in Canada or abroad completed in the last 5 years. Eligible spouses or common-law partners, as well as dependent children, can also apply for a study or work permit, as appropriate. This initiative is expected to launch soon.
For those who come here to either study or work, 2 new pathways to permanent residence are being created, which will be available in 2021:
The first will target former Hong Kong residents who have gained a minimum of 1 year of authorized work experience in Canada and meet other criteria such as minimum language and education levels.
The second pathway will be for those who have graduated from a post-secondary institution in Canada. These individuals can then apply directly for permanent residence.
For both these pathways, principal applicants will also be able to include in-Canada spouses, partners, and dependent children in their application.
Canada will benefit from these new measures, which will ensure these former Hong Kong residents have the skills and education to integrate well and contribute to our economy.

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refuge...-to-canada.html

For those of you who are looking to quit Msia.......nons and bumis alike, you can start a campaign to tell Canada that this is unfair and should be extended to all young and oppressed people. I can see Rohingya or Syrians as good candidates.

I am also sure that the Pakistanis and Indians and other brown folks will cry foul here too

Essentially, the two contentious privileges are these

1. Hong Kong youths need NOT to have had studied in Canada to get an Open Work Permit, essentially any foreign degree would allow one to apply for a work permit. That means, you lot here who have a good degree but not Canadian cannot apply but those hongkies can.......

2. Hong Kong youths already in Canada and who have completed their post-secondary studies can immediately apply for PR. Again, this is not available to all other international students. International students have to get a work permit and then work for at least year first before they can apply for PR

That is why I say all the other immigrants and international students will cry foul here.........Do your part, demand equal treatment for all dissidents. Oh, there are young dissidents in china too, but this is not extended to them........remember the Xitler and the Xidada guy?

Quebec religious symbols ban

QUOTE

Quebec's religious symbols ban welcomed by some who left Muslim countries behind
Social Sharing
Facebook
Twitter
Reddit
LinkedIn
For those who see the hijab as a symbol of repression, Bill 21 is a necessary line between church and state
Simon Nakonechny · CBC News · Posted: Apr 10, 2019 4:00 AM ET | Last Updated: 4 hours ago

Ameni Ben Ammar moved to Quebec from Tunisia in 2013 and supports Bill 21, especially the provisions that would ban teachers from wearing religious symbols (Simon Nakonechny/CBC)
Ameni Ben Ammar lays out a spread of Tunisian hospitality on the coffee table of her small apartment in downtown Montreal.

Traditional pastries, a homemade cheese chicken pie and Tunisian wine.

Despite having left six years ago, the bond with her North African homeland is still strong.

But she says as much as she misses the Mediterranean lifestyle, for her, living in Tunisia had become untenable.

"I couldn't handle the changes in my country," she said, referring to what she describes as a steady progression of religious influence on society, the company where she worked, and even her own family.

Ben Ammar was raised by an atheist father and a mother who was a practising Muslim but didn't wear the veil … at least until recently.

"She saw that the neighbours wore it, her friends wore it, and said, 'I don't want to be the only one not wearing it,'" Ben Ammar said. "She didn't want to be different."

Ben Ammar’s mother Manoubia Ben Ammar, left, in Tunisia in the late 1970s with her sister and more recently during a visit to Montreal. (Ammouna Ben Ammar)
Ben Ammar's mother's decision to don the veil is just one example of what she sees as her country's transformation from a secular state to a place where government and religion now coexist, and sometimes clash.

An atheist, she strongly supports the CAQ government's plan to ban religious symbols such as the hijab for government workers in positions of authority, like police officers, prosecutors and teachers.

"The woman is representing the state and for me the state should be neutral."

Quebec is home to thousands of Muslims originally from French-language countries in North Africa.

While many have come out strongly against the ban, others, like Ben Ammar, relish the idea of a clear-cut line between church and state after having to negotiate the blurring of those lines in their home countries.

Ben Ammar was disappointed to see such a large march against the law on Sunday as thousands poured into downtown Montreal to decry Bill 21 as discriminatory.

Montrealers take to the streets to protest Quebec's proposed religious symbols ban
Ben Ammar says the protest, organized by a group headed by controversial Imam Adil Charkaoui, does not represent the views of all of the province's Muslims.

"Who gave this association that organized the [protest] the right to talk in the name of Muslims here?" she said.

Aunt of mosque shooting widow favours bill
Two people who did speak at Sunday's protest were Aymen Derbali and Saïd El-Amari, survivors of the 2017 Quebec City mosque shooting.

El-Amari called Bill 21 "racist" and "Islamophobic."

But that perspective is not shared by someone else whose life was broken by the tragedy.

Zahra Boukersi's niece Louiza lost her husband, Abdelkrim Hassane, in the shooting.

Hassane was murdered by a gunman, along with five other Muslim men, because of his faith.

Still, Boukersi, who teaches French at Montreal-area private elementary school, does not see the CAQ's bill as fuelling Islamophobia, but as a necessary bulwark against what she calls "radical Islamization."

"I have students who see me as a role model," she said. "I'm not sure what kind of role model these [veiled] women will represent for the young generation."

Boukersi fears a replay of what she lived through in her native Algeria, where she says as a teacher, wearing a hijab went from a personal choice to a social imposition.

"We thought like you do here," she said. "That it's nothing at all, nothing at all. But no, it became a real nightmare."

Boukersi left Algeria in 1996 during the country's "black decade," when Islamist rebels battled the Algerian army for power in a bloody civil war.

She says many North Africans who have lived a similar experience also support Bill 21.

Still, Boukersi feels the law should be modified to allow more flexibility for veiled women who want to become teachers so they don't end up dependent and marginalized.

"Yes, there are women who wear the veil to prosthelytize, but there are women who wear the veil because it encourages them to emancipate themselves," she said.

"This is how they're going to earn their financial independence."

Iranian women's rights icon has mixed feelings about ban

Shaparak Shajarizadeh does not support a law banning the hijab for adult women, but says greater efforts should be made to educate people about its role as a ‘symbol of repression.’ (Simon Nakonechny/CBC)
More mixed feelings were on display last week at McGill University as Shaparak Shajarizadeh told the story of her own battle against the hijab to a room of students and Iranian expats.

The 44-year-old has become a global icon of resistance after being arrested three times and jailed twice in her home country of Iran for removing her hijab in public and posting images of the act on social media.

After she fled to Canada via Turkey last year, Shajarizadeh was sentenced to 20 years in prison in absentia, according to Amnesty International.

She's now living in Toronto but has been following the debate over Bill 21 and says she's conflicted about the religious symbols ban.

"The government can do better than forcing people," Shajarizadeh said. "But at the same time, as a woman who grew up in a Muslim community, I know the hijab is a symbol of sexism."

After living under a government-imposed dress code most of her life, she can't back a law that tells adult women what they can and can't wear, but she feels differently when it comes to minors.

"I know that in Muslim families they force their kids to wear the hijab at the age of nine and obviously a kid can't decide," she said.

A choice between freedom of, and freedom from religion
The forced hijab for women was one of the reasons Homan Davoodi left Iran five years ago, even though he's a man.

"You grew up with this whole idea, with this whole concept that you should not see a woman's hair or her body." said Davoodi.

He says as a schoolboy he was taught that forcing women to wear the veil was necessary to prevent men like him from becoming aroused and attacking them.

"It was a burden of guilt and shame on me. I have no idea how hard it could be for a woman."

The 38-year-old came to hear Shajarizadeh's in person, whom he describes as his "personal hero."

Homan Davoodi grew up as a practising Muslim in Iran but now describes himself as an ‘ex-Muslim.’ He supports Bill 21. (Simon Nakonechny/CBC)
Davoodi strongly supports Bill 21, even going so far as to say the hijab is even more repressive than a KKK hood.

"I know some people argue that it's a violation of freedom," he said. "But I think if we have to choose between two violations, I go with the Quebec government."

What's in Quebec's secularism bill: Religious symbols, uncovered faces and a charter workaround
Davoodi has since become a Canadian citizen. Trained as a chemist, he now works at the Port of Montreal as a monitor and describes himself as an "ex-Muslim."

He says many native-born Canadians now defending the hijab have never seen its negative effects up close.

"You're just seeing a shadow of it. I've seen the whole thing."

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/que...ehind-1.5091277

Perspectives.

Here's what what some muslim/ north african immigrants feel about the ban and the creeping islamilization of their native countries.......reason why they leave their native lands to begin with.

No flaming, just acknowledging the reality.

Britain’s ‘disgraceful’ pre-handover efforts to deny nationality to Hongkongers revealed in declassified cabinet files
Officials repeatedly pressured Portugal not to grant rights to Macau residents to prevent Hongkongers from asking for similar treatment

https://www.scmp.com/news/hong-kong/politic...eny-nationality

Not surprised with these backstage maneuvering when we know the purpose of the introduction of the BN(O) passport

Lesson for Malaysians.......don't consider Britain/UK as still better than Msia. Give credit where credit is due but call them out for their racism and white supremacist tendencies.

Also means....a UK education doesn't always mean that it's better than what one would get in Msia. British products are again not better than Msian.......As for english football.......it's a form of neo-colonialism in some ways.

Why China is acting up like that in the SCS?

Don't think this will get noticed elsewhere, so I want to open one thread and post it like k style

china is replaying its traditional role as big brother in this region
before there was vietnam, philippines, msia or indonesia.....there was the great ming empire.........ships were sent out of china and whoever that didn't bahave, got a tight slap from china...........your sejarah books gave a glimpse of temagi and siam and how all the sultans of melaka accepted ming dominance and became ming vassel states.....

Giving face is very important but pinoys and viets are being stupid here.......they should kowtow to china and china in return will give them some land.....going up against china is stupid, given the state of dependency that they have on china.
Brunei was smart enough to kowtow, china gave some money and probably china will give one or two islands to brunei

msia is also kowtowing to china because of reasons known to you and me. so we are smart in this aspect

end of the story, SEA should stfu and allow china to decide how it wants to deal with the SCS. Once china is given face, china can and will give some territories to all who has a claim. this is what strategy is called

i have more faith in china than the americans and the europeans.....whenever the white man comes poking, bad shit always happen to the local populace....pinoys are stupid by being so close to the americans.....americans use pinoys as cheap farkwhores to achieve their means. Case in point, despite what marcos did to the pinoys, the US gave him shelter......how stupid can pinoys be?
KUALA LUMPUR: The Magistrate’s Court here today fixed May 24 for decision on the case of an unemployed youth who allegedly stole a mobile phone at Low Yat Plaza here last year.
Magistrate Nur’Aminahtul Mardiah Md Nor fixed the date after counsel Mohd Khairul Azam Abdul Aziz, representing the accused Shahrul Anuar Abdul Aziz, told the court that the defence had closed the case today after hearing the testimony of four defence witnesses.
Shahrul Anuar was charged with stealing a mobile phone worth RM800 at Techasia Boutique, Low Yat Plaza, Bukit Bintang, at 4.47pm on July 11 last year.
The offence is under Section 380 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine, if found guilty

http://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/...case-on-may-24/

We will see what the verdict will be............your rights as a minority in the future, whether it is protected can be traced back to this event when looking back in the future.....some sort of a watershed moment...

Dilemma

We frequently hear 'dilemma' being used to describe an uncertain situation in which the subject faces 2 resolutions. This is unfortunately not entirely correct.

'Dilemma' should only be used when the two solutions are equally undesirable. One can't have a dilemma if one has 2 choices with desirable outcomes or 1 of which is clearer better than the other.

The appropriate words to describe that situation are 'predicament' and 'quandary'.

Harap maklum.
