The latest world university ranking by THE-QS is out! (9 Oct 2009) According to the rankings, Harvard is still the Number One university in the world! Cambridge is ranked 2nd in the world.

Universiti MALAYA (UM) is placed in the top 200 this year, ranked 180th in the world. How do you think about this?
Singapore has two universities ranked in the top 200, with NUS the highest ranked school, placed 30th!

Oxford is ranked joint 5th with Imperial this year.

World University Ranking 2009

Webometrics ranking of World Top Universities was published in Jan 2009. This is the first global ranking of institution in 2009.

Top 10 in the world:
1 Massachusetts Institute of Technology
2 Stanford University
3 Harvard University
4 University of California Berkeley
5 Cornell University
6 University of Michigan
7 California Institute of Technology
8 U of Minnesota
9 U of Illinois Urbana Champaign
10 U of Texas Austin

University of Toronto is ranked No 1 in Canada (24th in the world).
University of Cambridge is 1st in Europe and 28th globally.
Australian National University (ANU) is the only Australia's institution made it into the world Top 50.

Michigan State Univ is ranked ahead of many world famous univ like New York Uni and Princeton.

Oxford is ranked 42nd in the league table this year! The ranking shows US universities are on top of all major leading universities such as Cambridge, Oxford, ANU,...... I think it should be adjusted to take into account of other factors such as international reputation, research impact, in addition to web publication. How do you think?

Invest in Stocks or Bonds?

A lot of people invest their money through stocks and bonds. Is now the best time to invest in stocks since stock prices are very low and fluctuate at the moment?
With bonds, unlike stocks, you do not profit directly if your chosen company does well. However, investing in bonds tend to be lower risks as compared with stocks, and you will get the interest on your loan in the form of a bond.

UK RAE University Ranking 2008

RAE (Research Assessment Exercise) 2008 was published on 18th Dec 2008. This is the most important ranking of research performance across all UK institutions. The previous ranking was done in 2001.

Cambridge is ranked No. 2 in UK, while LSE and Oxford is ranked =4th nationally.
The RAE grades are 4*, 3*, 2*, 1* and unclassified.

A total of 132 institutions were ranked in 2008. Some institutions were ranked poorly, like Leicester (outside Top 50), Nottingham is 24th this year, Durham is not in Top 10 list.

New 2008 THES World Ranking-No Malaysia Uni

The THES Top 200 Universities Ranking 2008, which is published by The Times Higher Education Supplement (THES) and Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) is one of the world’s most popular university rankings published annually, this year’s table saw the British universities losing their grip with its flagship universities Oxford and Cambridge dropping their place from joint second place last year. Overall, only 17 universities from the UK made it to the top 100 this year, compared to 19 previously.

Malaysia continues to lose out from the race with its main universities, Universiti Malaya (UM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and Universiti Sains Malaysia, which recently attained the Apex University status, are nowhere to be seen in the top 200 list.
