My goal of pursuing an undergrad degree overseas

I've just finished my A-Levels (AS and A2), and I was planning to study abroad, probably the UK or Australia. I've decided to pursue chemical engineering, partly due to career potential, but mostly because of interest and passion in chemistry.

So far, I've concluded a few target universities in the UK (some like Exeter, Bath and etc.) and plan to register for them through UCAS, and some G8 universities in Australia.

Upon further discussion with my parents about our current financial situation and average tuition fees and living costs in the UK and Australia, it seems that the possibility of me studying overseas is getting to be very unlikely.

I did somewhat okay in my GCE AS-Levels, but it seems it may not be enough to secure majority of the available scholarships, even if my A2 results are out : -

Mathematics - a (82)
Physics - b (74)
Chemistry - b (79)
Biology - b (72)
General Paper - b (75)

I have done an examination resitting for my 3 sciences, and am currently waiting for my results this coming January.

I did some research to a few topics including some pinned threads here in LYN, they were pretty helpful, but I couldn't find any potential scholarships that I may be able to acquire. I've also checked on some other scholarships particular to chemical engineering such as Shell which do provide for some Universities overseas, but are mostly limited to higher ranked universities such as Cambridge/Oxford in the UK, MIT in the US. Those universities were initially considered as an option for me, but as you well know, their entry requirements are strict, especially to foreign students. Also, I've checked on Petronas scholarships, are they are mostly restricted to local universities or overseas branches of local universities.

I've also heard of some scholarships whereby you are provided a certain amount of financial assistance but you are required to sign a contract with them and work as an employee for them afterwards. I'm not too sure where to find those, if you have any ideas, I'd like to know.

So my questions of importance are :

1) Am I chasing an unobtainable goal of trying to study overseas even though I have no financial means of doing so?

2) My family is not too well-off , so my only remaining hope is to seek every possibility of a scholarship or loan available, are there any more scholarships that I may have missed? If so, could you kindly list down for me?
*Feel free to let me know regardless though, it wouldn't hurt to know more.

3) Should I just stay in Malaysia and study my undergrad instead? If so, what local universities are recommended for engineering? Specifically chemical, of course. I've heard some good things about University of Nottingham, are they valid?

*Websites I have checked for scholarships : doctorjobs, afterschool, scholarship links in pinned threads of LYN, shell, petronas, exxonmobil.

I hope I have not forgotten to elaborate any smaller details on my situation.

TL;DR? >>> I'm not rich, not super smart, but I wanna study abroad. Questions :
1) I crazy ah? No money still want go study overseas.
2) No money, then I need scholarship loh, link me or describe me details on potential scholarships.
3) Why not I pick local uni? Local uni bad meh? I heard University of Nottingham very good in engineering leh.

HDMI to VGA converter?

So my college only has a cable for VGA (i think, correct me if its not called VGA) to connect with laptops to output into a projector.

But my Dell XPS 15 only has a HDMI port, I've done some searching around but I'm not 100% clear with which type I should get.

Firstly, I've seen direct HDMI to VGA cables, like this :

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

and some have a converstion box(?), like this :

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

So, my question is, which or what do I buy so that I can use my laptop with a HDMI port to connect with a VGA cable so that I can output through the projector.

Ok, alright, I've got a aBit IL9 Pro mobo running a Intel Celeron D 2.8GhZ, and I'm gonna upgrade it to the following :

1) ASUS M2N68 + AMD PHENOM AM2+ X4 9650

OR

2) ASUS P5KPL-AM + INTEL CORE 2 QUAD Q8200

Both Option 1 and Option 2 mobos support their own Processors right?

So, I wanna ask is there anything else i need to buy to make sure the mobo and processor runs fine?

I'm not sure about my PSU, but it says MAX Output 500W , it should be ok just exchanging the mobo and processors, right?

Thanks in advance.

I already know AMD X4 Phenom is not stable..

I was planning to get a Core 2 Quad..

but I heard ALL quad-cores are not as stable as dual-cores

is this true?

[WTA] Gonna change to AMD motherboard..

So, I'm gonna upgrade my current Intel motherboard + Celeron D processor to an AMD motherboard + X4 Phenom Processor..

my cousin who is somewhat good at hardware says that I can get the ASUS M2A-MX (RM170, seen at lowyat shop pricelist) and the AMD Phenom AM2+ X4 9550 (RM490, also seen at lowyat shop pricelist)..

but my questions are

1) I heard that the AMD's Phenom X4 isn't stable , so is it worth getting it?

2) I saw at the ASUS website, the website doesn't say that the ASUS M2A-MX supports AMD Phenom X4 (LINK : http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=...09&modelmenu=2) like the other motherboards (eg. LINK : http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=...52&modelmenu=2) , it says "Support latest AMD Phenom ™ Quad-Core Processor" on the 2nd line for the M3A78-EM which costs more.. Is my cousin correct?

I'm soo confused here..
