The winning cause in each category will receive up to RM 100,000. You could be rewarded too.

TITLE: MYCAUSE: Photos That Make a Difference contest

DESCRIPTION:

1. Participation
a) All information detailing how to enter this contest forms part of these terms and conditions. It is a condition of entry that all rules are accepted as final and that the contestant agrees to abide by these rules.
b) All the photographs must be taken within Malaysia. The cause photographed must be in line with the areas of focus of CIMB Foundation (the Foundation), i.e.
. Community Development,
. Sports and
. Education.
c) Each contestant is allowed only one entry for this contest. A particular cause may only be considered for funding once.
d) Entries:-
Entries must be registered online and submitted through the official website of the Foundation, http://mycause.cimbfoundation.com

For all categories
. Each contestant can submit up to five photographs relating to a single cause.
. The size of the image must be 800 pixels (on the wide side) and must be in JPEG format. The file size must not be more than 512Kb per photograph.
. Basic darkroom techniques eg. levels, curves, dodging, burning, minimal sharpening, colour correction are permissable.
. Black and white photos will be accepted.
. No digital super imposition/composition is allowed. Photo that shows signs of manipulation will be disqualified.
. All submission must be accompanied with a short story to describe the photographs / cause.
. Notified finalists will be required to submit high resolution image files by post on CD-ROMS by 15 August 2009. Image files not received by this date, or does not conform to the required output quality will be disqualified.
. High resolution files must be at least 3,000 to 4000 pixels at the shortest dimension, (approx. 16” x 20” size), and must be of exhibition quality.

Additional requirements for Student category. Each contestant must:
. Complete the field for school’s name.
. Obtain a support letter from the school.
. Obtain a letter of consent from parents.

Incomplete entries will be disqualified.
Failure to comply with these specifications will result in disqualification.

e) Late, illegible, incomplete, defaced or corrupt entries will not be accepted. No responsibility can be accepted for lost entries and proof of transmission will not be accepted as proof of receipt. Entries must not be sent through agencies or third parties.

f) Description
A description of not more than 768 characters must be submitted together with the entry, outlining why the cause should be funded and how a grant from the Foundation will be utilised.
All descriptions must be the contestant’s original creation and plagiarized entries will be disqualified.

g) All entries are the property of CIMB Foundation. Any photograph submitted must be the work of the individual submitting them and must not have been published elsewhere or have won a prize in any other photography contest. It is the responsibility of each contestant to ensure that any image they submit have been taken with the permission of the subject and does not infringe the copyright of any third party or any laws. Each contestant warrants that the photograph is their own work and that they own the copyright for it.

h) CIMB Foundation shall not be liable for any disruption to the contest, whether due to technical problems or otherwise, which is beyond its reasonable control. In the event of disruption to the contest, reasonable efforts will be used to remedy the disruption and resume the contest on a fair and equitable basis to all contestants.

i) CIMB Foundation reserves the right to cancel, terminate or suspend the contest without any prior notice. For the avoidance of doubt, any cancellation, termination or suspension by CIMB Foundation of the contest shall not entitle the participant to any claim or compensation against CIMB Foundation for any and all losses or damages which may be suffered or incurred by the contestant as a direct or an indirect result of the act of cancellation, termination or suspension.

j) CIMB Foundation reserves the right to amend, delete or add to the above rules and regulation at any time without prior notice. The Foundation may in their absolute discretion refuse to accept an entry without giving any reason at any time.

k) These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of Malaysia.

2. Categories and Prizes
a) Open Category - general public, Malaysians and non-Malaysians aged 18 and above as at 1 January 2009 are allowed to take part.

b) Student Category - secondary school going children aged below 20 as at 1 January 2009. Submission must be forwarded together with a support letter by the school & consent letter from parents. The organizing committee reserves the right to verify the eligibility of the contestants under this category.

c) Under each category, the winning cause will receive a grant of up to RM100,000 from the Foundation.

3. Assessment

a) The judging of this competition will be based on content, composition, quality, technique and creativity in the photographs in relation to the focus areas of the Foundation as well as the content of short story.

b) The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence will be entertained.

c) Winners will be notified by telephone or via email. Prizes must be collected personally.

All prize winners must have CIMB Bank / CIMB Islamic Bank account. Prize monies will be credited directly to the winners’ bank accounts with CIMB Bank/ CIMB Islamic.

d) Prizes not collected within the given time and date will be forfeited. The Foundation reserves the right to award the prize to the next best contestant.

e) All prize winners will be notified to attend the prize giving ceremony. The cost of travelling will be borne by the winners.

f) By accepting the prize, the winner agrees that CIMB Foundation may publish:

(i) the winner’s name
(ii) the relevant school’s name (for winners of the student category)
(iii) any photograph submitted by the winner

on CIMB Foundation’s website, documents and other materials (whether print or electronics).

The winner also agrees that CIMB Foundation may exhibit all the photographs submitted.

4. Ownership

a) Copyright of all images submitted for this competition shall be irrevocably granted to CIMB Foundation and their respective successors, licensees and assign the right in perpetuity to use, re-use, publish, and re-publish, and otherwise reproduce, modify and display, the photographs, and any text and information that is submitted, and name and likeness and the name and likeness of the persons depicted in the submitted photographs, in whole or in part, in connection with the photographs.

b) In consideration of providing any image and or any text for the Contest, each contestant grants a worldwide, irrevocable, perpetual license to CIMB Foundation to feature any or all of the submitted images in any of their publications, their websites and/or in any promotional material connected to this contest.

c) The owners of winning photographs shall grant the copyright of their winning photographs to CIMB Foundation, their respective successors, licensees and assigns the rights granted in this terms and conditions on behalf of the photographer and/or the persons depicted in the photographs. The owner of winning photographs represents and warrants that the photographs and/or text do not infringe any intellectual property rights or any other rights of any third parties.

d) All photographs for the contest will not be returned and shall remain the property of CIMB Foundation.

e) CIMB Foundation shall be allowed to keep, exhibit and make copies of all photographs without prior consent of or payment to any contestant for any purpose whatsoever.

f) Each contestant will be responsible for any talent fees incurred. CIMB Foundation will not be liable for any claims from any person as a result of this competition.

5. Risk & Liability

CIMB Foundation will not be held liable in the event of loss, personal injury, or death as a result of participation in this competition.

6. Closing Date

The closing date of this competition is 31 July 2009. All entries must be received by 5 p.m. on the closing date.

By participating in this competition, contestants agree to be bound by these rules and regulations as well as the decisions made by CIMB Foundation and the panel of judges.

If any provision of these terms and condition proves to be illegal or unenforceable, this shall not prevent the remaining provisions continuing in full force and effect.

All staff of CIMB Group, its affiliates, subsidiaries, as well as its advertising, creative, media, digital, design and other creative agencies and their immediate family members are not allowed to participate.

1. Find a worthy cause, and snap a photo of it. Or snap 5 photos of it.
2. Register for the competition.
3. Give the cause a title, and write a short description of it.
4. Upload your photos and you’re done.

All entries will be scored on the photos (80%) and description (20%).

The best photo submitted will be judged based on its:

. originality
. composition
. exposure
. ‘impact’
. aesthetic quality
. framing
. ability to portray the needs of the cause
. and consistency with the Contest and the Foundation’s 3 pillars.

The description should be original and concise. It should describe the cause and tell a compelling story.

PRIZE:
There are two grand prizes for the Professional Category (Open Professional and Alpha Professional) as well as two grand prizes for the Amateur Category (Open Amateur and Alpha Amateur). Grand Prize winners will received an all expenses paid trip to South Africa to watch the FIFA 2010 World Cup final and a Sony Alpha DSLR camera package.

All photos featured in the book will receive a certificate of merit. There are no prizes for honorable mentions.

The theme of this photography competition is simple, Soccer! We are looking for your artistic interpretation of football in everyday context. The choice of subject and location is your to choose!

If selected, you photo will be used in a book, which will be sold and proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to charity.

Q: Do photos have to be taken with a digital camera?
A: All entries must be in digital format only and taken on a digital camera. Images from a non-digital source such as film will not be accepted.

Q: Are Model release forms required when submitting a photograph to The Soccergraphy Contest?
A: By submitting a Photo to the Soccergraphy Contest, you are deemed to be the owner of the image, that you alone own the copyright, and you have obtained any necessary third-party releases. If your photo is selected to appear in the book, you may be asked to submit a model(s) release. Please do not send any release unless we've asked you to.

Q: When do I need to use a model release?
A: Images of unrecognizable people do not need personal releases. A model release form is a binding contract between the photographer and the subject(s) of the photograph. By signing the release, the subject of the photograph forgoes the right to sue for specific types of claims. A model release is required for the following:

* If you used models to stage your photos.
* When the model or person featured in the photo is identifiable.
* When a child or children are featured in your photo.

Q: How do I submit a photo to the photo contest?
A: Photos are submitted from the Submit Your Photo page. The submission period begins on March 20, 2009, and closes on October 31, 2009.

Q: When submitting the photo in low resolution, what is the required size?
A: Before you submit a photograph, please make sure it meets the following requirements:

* JPG or JPEG file format (ex. YourImage.jpg or YourImage.jpeg)
* At least 1,280 pixels wide (if a horizontal image) or 1,280 pixels tall (if a vertical image)
* Total file size must be less than 500K in size

Q: How many photos may I submit?
You may submit a total of five (5) photos to the contest, at any one time. However there is no limit to the number of entries you wish to submit.

Q: What's the difference between the Professional and the Amateur Categories?
A: If you derive a regular income from photography, then you are considered a professional. If you have never sold a picture or image to anyone, then you are considered an amateur.

Q: I wish to enter for the Alpha Professional or Alpha Amateur category, so where do I submit these images to?
A: You can submit the images normally as our system will read the EXIF data to determine the sort of camera you are using but please ensure that you do not remove your EXIF data embedded in your photos when downscaling them for submission.

Q: What is EXIF data?
A: EXIF data is the shooting or captured data from your camera that is embedded in your image. It contains information such as camera brand/type as well as lens, shutter speed and aperture information.

Q: When will the winner be announced?
A: Winners will be chosen by 31st January, 2010, and notified by email. Images that will appear in the book will also be notified. Please be sure that your email address is correct when submitting a photo.

Q: What are the prizes?

A: No, you can only enter a photo if it hasn't been published or sold.

Q: I'd like to enter a photo that has previously won a contest. Is that allowed?
A: Photographs that have previously won an award in any photography contest in the past three years are not eligible.

Q: Will my photos be seen online?
A: Selected entries and the entrants' names may be published online at Sony websites. These will be selected at the discretion of the Sony.

Q: Will I be notified if my photo is chosen for the online galleries?
A: No, You will be notified only if you are a Grand Prize winner.

Q: Is image manipulation allowed in the photo contest?
A: Minor burning, dodging, and color correction are acceptable. Hand tinting is acceptable, as is cropping. Fish-eye lenses are acceptable. High dynamic range images (HDRI) and stitched panoramas are acceptable only if the combined parts are all made around the same time. Any changes to an original photograph not itemized here are unacceptable and will render the photograph ineligible for a prize.

Q: What should I include in the description of my photograph?
A: Captions are always a good way to engage others in your photography. So take the time to write about the place, time, setting, and situation.

Q: When I submit a photo to the photo contest, what rights does the Sony have over my submission?
A: The nonexclusive, perpetual right to use your image in connection with the contest and promotion of the contest, in any media now or hereafter known, including, but not limited to: Display at a potential exhibition of winners; publication of a book featuring select entries in the contest; publication in magazines or online highlighting entries or winners of the contest.

Q: I accidentally uploaded the wrong photo. Can I delete my entry and submit a new entry?
A: Unfortunately, due to the large volume of images submitted to the contest, all entries are final and cannot be replaced or modified.

Q: I can't remember which photographs I've already submitted. Can you tell me which of my photographs you've received?
A: Unfortunately, due to the large volume of images submitted, we're unable to report to you which images you've uploaded.

Q: The photograph I'd like to submit was taken while I was on vacation. There's no way for me to get a release form. Can I still enter this photograph in the contest?
A: If your photograph is chosen as a winner of the contest, you are required to submit a release.

Q: Why won't my images upload?
A: Please check you image file size. If this exceeds 500K. It will not upload.

Q: When will I know if my photo has been short listed for final selection?
A: You will be notified by our photo editor by email. You then have 30 days to submit your high resolution image to us for final consideration. Please ensure your email is current and submit all your High Resolution files early!

Q: What is a high resolution image?
A: High resolution image can be in RAW, TIFF or JPEGs.

The exhibition is jointly-organised by famous bridal houses together with well-known photographic equipment distributors. How to carry heavy camera equipments?

I've tried my friend's system - Sigma 70-200 F2.8 + canon 20d + flash + battery grip. After 5 mins of shooting, my shoulder and fingers due to grip is aching. Neck also feel a bit ache.

I can't imagine shooting fashion show 20-30 mins with the equipments or stage competitions that could go 1-2 hours.

Any tips to share, preferably don't burn too much holes in the pocket?

All winners will be notified by email and winners must be in contact with the Contest Administrator via email to cic@sony.com.my within fourteen (14) days of receiving the winning notification. E-mail auto replies are not acceptable. If the Contest Administrator does not receive a reply within fourteen (14) days from the said notification, the winner will be disqualified. Return of any prize notification as undeliverable will result in disqualification of that winner. Sony reserves the right to deal with all unclaimed prizes in any manner deemed fit.
8. Winners may be requested to participate in public relations events tied to the campaign to generate press coverage of the contest and the Sony product range. This may include, but not be limited to, quotes given for inclusion in press releases and press conferences.
9. The decision of the judges for this contest is final and no claim or correspondence will be entertained.
10. Sony reserves the right to use the names, photographs taken and other information of the winner for current and future advertising and promotional purposes.

Starting a new gallery
Previous one which is old old old somewhere in here dunno where there ..... was using Panasonic FZ3
Now on Sony Alpha 350

For a start, sharing some pictures taken at KL Birdpark this morning/afternoon

Taken with Sony Alpha 350 and Carl Zeiss Jena Sonnar MC 135mm F3.5 M42 lens (manual lens)

EXIF available, but do ignore value for focal length and aperture. They should be 135mm and F3.5

My first streamyx bill

OK, got my first streamyx bill....
My package is 1MB at RM88 + RM2 (for modem warranty) = RM90
Of course that I need to pay extra one month

So, total subscription = RM180
OK, no problem here

Registration is RM225.00
WTF!

It should be RM75.
So, I went to online bill and check, here is the screenshot!

I was charged registration 3 times...
Again I have to say.. WTF!

Tomorrow streamyx will get from me!
