Hello all. This is an old laptop of mine that I used while in college - it has previously died once due to a bad BIOS flash. After that incident, I replaced the BIOS chip with a reflashed one that I got off eBay, and it worked once again.

.. Well, for a few weeks, at least. I was using a TV as a second monitor one day, then suddenly everything froze. I waited for quite a long time, then decided to give the laptop a power cycle. However, upon powering on, it only managed to boot to a black screen - the power indicator light is on, the fan is on, but there wasn't any HDD activity / HDD indicator light. It powered off after a few seconds, then powered on again, and kept repeating the process.

I've tried resetting the BIOS settings by removing the CMOS battery, holding power button down etc, and also disassembling everything (RAM, every peripheral device) and reseating all of them (except for the CPU and GPU), leaving only the bare minimum - just the Mobo, fan, display and power input board, but the problems still persist.

I found some motherboard replacements for this model on eBay online (ships from China, and costs around RM260), but at the same time, I've also visited a computer repair store to diagnose the problem. I was told that it was a GPU problem, and that replacing the motherboard alone might not be the right move. Also, there's the problem of transferring the CPU and GPU to the new motherboard - I don't have a heat gun, so it might cost me even more if I were to visit a computer repair store again to do that.

I'm actually just trying to see whether I could fix this myself and hand it over to my parents - it's already an old model , so I'm not willing to spend too much on the repairs.

Could someone help on this please?
