Enquiry about .dat video format

I had convert some .dat format(video files) to mpeg, but after i burned it to vcd format and view it, then the original function of changing language disappear already..When i played the original format (.dat), it allow me to choose the language i want but after burn it then cannot already...

Is that because of the mpeg format?Then wat format shound i convert to?

Any1 know about this extention ".dap" which is a video file?How to burn this file in order to play in VCD player?or need to convert it into what format then only can burn?
