C and D drives unable to open. HELP!

I have a BIG problem here , I hope someone can help me fix it. Here's what is wrong with my laptop (compaq presario v3000, running xp pro)

The day before yesterday, I was searching through the internet for a software which I did not manage to find. Went to several sites I don't normally go to, installed some programs which I have already uninstalled. Halfway through, my sister asked me to transfer some stuff to her external HD, which I did. Then after she plugged her external HD into her laptop, she found that she could not open the HD by double clicking it in My Computer. Some weird message about "Windows cannot find RECYCLE\S-0-0-84-100002346-100003578--17358.com. Make sure you typed the name correctly, then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, then click Search." appeared after the double-click. So I started to suspect that it had some virus/spyware which had come from my computer.

Later, when I wanted to shut down my laptop, a blue screen (of death?) appeared. Said my computed had a problem. So I manually forced shut down and switched it back on. It hanged once, but the 2nd time it managed to come up. Next, I tried to scan it with ad-aware (an old version) which detected somethings but did not let me delete them (no idea why). After that, I scanned my computer with AVG but to no avail. At this time I did not open my computer to double-click on either the C or D drive.

Yesterday morning, I switched on my laptop and avg ran its usual scheduled scan. It found a WIN32/Cryptor and moved it to the virus vault. After that, I opened My Computer and double-clicked on C drive, and the same message appeared, which is "Windows cannot find RECYCLE\S-0-0-84-100002346-100003578--17358.com. Make sure you typed the name correctly, then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, then click Search", but no message came out when i double-clicked on D drive.

So, I downloaded the newest ad-aware and ran it on my laptop, this time, managing to delete the contaminated files. However, when I did the scan again, the files were still there. Deleted them again. Next, I thought of using system restore, but it did not let me restore after I had decided on the restore point, I just keep clicking on "next" but nothing happened. Then I tried disk defragmenter, and when I clicked on either analyze or defragment, both came out with the message that disk defragmenter cannot start. Tried running chkdsk from cmd, no use. Ran hard disk test from BIOS, also no use.

*EDIT* I just found out "S-0-0-84-100002346-100003578--17358AED.pf" is a prefetch under windows.

I hope someone has a solution to my problem. I don't want to be at a risk of infecting other people's computers when I transfer files to them. I also prefer that the solution does not involve reinstalling windows as my laptop's cd drive cannot work due to some unknown reason.

Thanks first in advance to any who reply.

Problem with my laptop's dvd drive

My dvd drive in my compaq presario V3000 series laptop cannot play any type of disc(both cd and dvd) at all but it is able to burn dvds. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, not to mention cleaning all my registry, getting rid of spyware and defragmenting both my drives. Thinking that my dvd-drive was lost for good, I bought an external drive but the same thing is happening! So, my conclusion for now is that there is some software problem in my laptop that is blocking the dvd drive from reading the cd/dvd. Model of dvd-drive in laptop is Mashita dvd-ram UJ850s while the external is Mashita dvd-ram UJ841s.

*Cannot send to repair center, because they told me need RM1000 to replace the stupid drive . Almost halfway to buying a new laptop already.*

Can anyone give me suggestions as to what I should do to solve my problem?
