How to choose a good quality piano?

Hi, this question pops out in my mind. I play piano for about 12 years but I don't even know how to choose a good piano. Pathetic and ashamed I know there are many things need to take note like the strings, hammer and so on. However, I know almost nothing about them. Is that really difficult or I am a stupid pianist?

Anybody had it? Mine had been removed by surgery a month ago. The incision just healed but it grew back Tomorrow I will go back to clinic to remove it. How many times it will regrow?

I gave up my dream to study at oversea. I know I can't realise it even if I got the scholarship. My parent gives me green light to study locally.

I guess I would like to study classical piano but I don't have any minor instrument so far I am still pondering whether I should instead study contemporary music or not because I don't know what can I do after that. I mean career opportunity and don't know I will survive or not My friend said I am better in that but I don't know

My 2009 SPM result : BM-A, BI-A, Moral-A, Sej-A+, Math-A+, Add Math-E, Physics-C, Chem-E, Bio-C, BC-A-. 1119(GCE-O)-3B.

Music certificate: LLCM in Piano Music Performance-Distinction, ATCL in Piano Music Performance-Pass and ABRSM Grade 8 theory-Merit. I know I need to go through audition.

I am not studying Form six at the moment. Teaching at music center and as a ballet part-time accompanist.

Please kindly recommend me local music universities and colleges. Thanks.

Perfectionism in musicians

Hi, all My friend told me musicians tend to be a perfectionist. As the topic title, does anyone of you is a perfectionist? You want everything to be perfect in your music and set unrealistic goal. For example, perfect tone, no error in performance or exam, perfect build up in dynamics and so on. That means you plan everything to be perfect. No single error. You only see your weakness but not your strength. You can't forgive yourself and easily frustrated with your single error. Sometimes, a minor mistake which nobody would care. In the meanwhile, maybe you didn't realised or you realised you can't communicate deep into people's heart through your music because you keep on focusing to be perfect. In the end, your music becomes lack of passion and robotic. You know there is no perfect in music but beautiful music does exist. You also know there is no perfect in live performance. People are keep on telling and advising you. However, you just can't give up for being perfect. For you, you are not a great musician or a great person in others' eyes if you are imperfect. You receive praise from your friends or teacher but deep down you deny it. You think you are worse.

Did you face these situations or own these traits?

Waterproof Mascara

Hi, all

I started to apply Maybelline Hello Kitty mascara which is waterproof recently and noticed some of my eyelashes lost when I removed the mascara The make-up eye removal that I use is Dermalogica make up eye removal.

Anyone faced this problem before? Is it because of the waterproof mascara which makes my eyelashes brittle? How about non-waterproof mascara? Your advices and suggestions are greatly appreciated

Hi all. I want to be a piano teacher in future. Although it is a small job for some people, but I like it. I will study lower six on the next Monday and continue to work as a part-time pianist in ballet classes. Guys, I need your advice and suggestion. Which choice is better after my STPM?

1. continue to work as a pianist in ballet classes and teaching at the same time. Take Dip. in teaching when my age is more than 18.
2. study at local uni like USM
3. study at private college or uni

Can I study F6 art stream with this result?

This is my SPM result. I purposely makes the four subjects fail but didn't fail Weird.

I want to know whether I can enroll into Form 6 art stream with this result or not. I don't know the requirement to study form 6, what should I do to apply it and how to change from science to art stream.

How to improve my sight reading skill?

I think I will take my piano exam next year ( Don't have confidence. I scare I will fail. ) My exam consists of three pieces performance, programme note and sight reading. My sight reading skill is very poor. It makes me headache. I think it is because I did not sight read a music piece for years My teacher told me that playing a lot of music piece is the vital key to improve my sight reading skill. I photocopied a music book ( grade 6 ) and 2009/2010 grade 7 exam book. This is because the piece that I am going to sight read in exam is around grade 6 and 7 standard. I practised but it shows a little improvement.

Maybe I did not practise correctly and I think practising finger exercises like trills and five fingers notes will not improve my sight reading skill. It improves my playing skill a lot and makes me able to endure in long duration practice. Tell me if I am wrong.

Any good and systematic method to improve my sight reading skill? If some of you know or own a music piece which is around grade 6 and 7 standard, please let me know. I need it. Thanks

Grand piano

Well, I intend to buy a grand piano and put it in home. I do not know whether my decision is right or wrong. When playing an upright piano, I feel uncomfortable with the sound since I will play grand piano during exam. The pressure I need to use is totally different. For some technical works especially sounds the top note of chords, I cannot shape the sound that I want on upright piano because I will get very loud 'banging' sound. On grand piano, the sound is more pleasure. My teacher recommend Kawai or Yamaha 5 inches grand piano. However, I am lack of knowledge in this thing and I would like to know the difference between 5 inches and 6 inches'2 grand piano and others. Constructive advices and suggestions are welcome.
