Hi all pc sifu out there,

I have not been following the tech trend for the past few years, and i recently bought a pc systems for each of my kids.

i7-3820
Asus p9x79le
Palit gtx680 4gb
16gb ddr3 corsair vengeance ram
Coolermaster hyper 212 evo cpu cooler
Cooler master 650 power supply
Samsung 840 pro 256 gb
western digital black caviar black 1tb
Dell u2312hm monitor

Is these spec good enough to last them for another 2 years? Not so much for them to play games but for study/education purposes.

I just browse thru some thread here saying that the cooler master power supply is not so good, which power supply is good as a replacement?

5 printers and 3 laptops

good day to all !

i would like to ask for advise/guidance on how to setup [wifi] network printing for my home...

things that i have;

4 usb printers
1 network printers
3 laptops
1 wifi router

Questions:
1. how can i share all the printers with my laptops over the wifi and allow me to print wirelessly?

2. which hardware / device is needed ? i would prefer the easiest and cheapest way to accomplish this...

advise / suggestion is highly appreciate !

Registry Edits [ some called it registry hack / tweak ] Tutorial with Pictorial Guide

Often heard of some senior member here mentioned about tweaking this and that? Afraid it will ruin or bricked our device? Worry not….this tutorial will guide you thru regardless whether you’re totally newbie or seasoned WM user. With a little direction and a few proactive and preventive steps, these fears are more often than not largely exaggerated. Registry edits are cool, useful, helpful, can fine tune / optimize / personalize your phone, or sometimes might simply be important to know how to do in order to fix your phone. Editing the registry is easy, can be safe, and fun to explore and that is what this tutorial is geared to do.

The goal here is to clear up all the urban legends about physically and literally bricking up / screwed up your device. Fear not now….

What actually is Registry in WM?
The Windows registry is a directory which stores settings and options for the operating system for Microsoft ....Windows Mobile. It contains information and settings for all the hardware, operating system software, most non-operating system software, users, preferences of the (Mobile Phone), etc. Whenever a user makes changes to Control Panel settings, file associations, system policies, or most installed software, the changes are reflected and stored in the registry.

Now that you still don't have a clue what the registry is? let me try to explain it in plain jane terms.

Think of the registry as a single file that holds nearly every possible setting for your phone, the WM OS, any software or game installed on the phone, etc etc.

Think of it as a single file that basically tells the phone who it is, what it has on it, and how to do everything you want it to do your way.
So no matter what you call it, registry edit, tweak, or a hack, you are simply just changing a setting on your phone. That's it. Nothing more nothing less !

Risk of bad registry edit;

1. Your device might not working properly [ often WM itself ]
2. Lose all your data stored.

But, you can always perform softreset / hardreset to make your device working again. That’s it! This is the worst scenario you’ll face and nothing more. IT WON’T PHYSICALLY SPOIL YOUR DEVICE !

Safe Registry Editing Approach

1. Always remember to BACKUP your current registry or even to the extend of doing full mirror backup of your device first !

There’s few backup software that come handy in this case;

Full backup : Sprite Backup / SPB Backup [commercial ware]
Contact backup : Pim Backup v2.8 [freeware]

Tools Needed To Perform Registry Editing

Of course it has to be the registry editor software LOL.
Freeware : TotalCommander / Schap's Registry Editor / TRE etc etc. I personally use TRE, no particular reason as I’d been using this since the day 1 using WM device and plus point is that this utility doesn’t require any installation and it reside in my storage card…
CommercialWare : no need to mentioned here, why pay for it when you can get it free…

Understand the Registry’s Structure

Subtree
This is where you start. The registry is divided up into 4 different sections called Subtrees. As far as navigating around, think of these as different hard drives on a PC. I'll will get into details later ya..

Key
A key is a general area in a subtree. Think of this like a folder on a hard drive.

Subkey
This is basically the second layer down in a key. Think of this like a subfolder.

Value
A value holds a specific setting in a subkey. Think of it like a file. This is what it is all about... getting to the value of a key or subkey to change its setting. There are several different type of values, i.e. Dword or binary. You usually do not have to worry about this when editing values are already in the registry, as they are already assigned as the appropriate value type.

Organization of the Registry

The registry is organized in a tree structure. When you look at the registry in a Registry Editor, it looks very similar to what your PC looks like when looking at it with Windows Explorer. You will always start with one of the 4 subtrees when trying to find a value to change in the registry. Here are the subtrees that are in the registry.

HKEY_USERS
Contains all the actively loaded user profiles on the computer.
HKEY_USERS is sometimes abbreviated as "HKU."

HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Contains the root of the configuration information for the user who is currently logged on. The user's folders, screen colors, and Control Panel settings are stored here. This information is associated with the user's profile.
This key is sometimes abbreviated as "HKCU".

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Contains configuration information particular to the handheld [of any user].
This key is sometimes abbreviated as "HKLM."

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
The information that is stored here makes sure that the correct program opens when you open a file by using Mobile Explorer. Most registry edits are in the other three subtrees
This key is sometimes abbreviated as "HKCR."

OK, stop all the boring stuff and let’s get tweaking started !

By understand the registry structure earlier, this part is just a piece of cake d…LOL

When someone release a tweak e.g Hide Sim Contact Tweak : go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER > ControlPanel > Phone > ShowSim and change the decimal value to 0

Just navigate and follow the registry flow….[ click the + sign to expand the registry tree ]

[ always change the decimal value ]

Soft reset and woola! you have just performed the tweaking by yourself !

Location SMS - Send SMS with GPS Coordinates

Install this piece of utility/application called Location SMS [ you can't find it elsewhere, this utility is extracted from Eten's build in pda software ]

Location SMS will send a SMS with your GPS-Coordinates !

1. Download and dump this Location SMS.exe utility into your pda memory / storage card [ preferably into main memory ] - NO INSTALLATION NEEDED !

2. Open / Launch this utility

3. Wait for the utility to lock on GPS [ usually takes around few second for my case, but it depends on your location too ] - pls update the QuickGPS data as this help too!

4. Once it's GPS lock ready, you can start using it!

5. Please remember to put / add the international prefix in your SMS number e.g if your recipient hp number is 012 - 888 8888, pls key in +60128888888

6. This is how your recipient's sms look like ;

Any WM5.0 / WM6.0 / WM6.1 PDA with built-in GPS

Tracking the PDA With GPS

The GPS functionality built into many modern PDAs is usually used for convenience for the unit's owner, but with tracking security software, it can also be a way to find a stolen PDA. This form of theft prevention accessories for PDA units consists of software that is installed on the unit and a subscription service. The software installed will be linked to the unit's built-in password protection, and will automatically broadcast an emergency signal after an incorrect password has been entered. The subscription service will then pick up the signal and start tracking the PDA, informing the authorities where to find it.

Common Sense

Probably the best theft prevention accessories for PDA units, however, is our own common sense. Don't leave it lying unattended on a table, even for a moment. If you put it down and look away, someone else will probably pick it up. Don't leave it in plain sight inside a vehicle, even a locked vehicle. Make sure you use the built-in security functions of the unit itself. A password can, at the very least, protect the information on a unit from prying eyes if it is stolen. Think about that if you keep your kids' pictures and contact information for your kids' school on the unit.

New Tweak For Almost All WM Devices

Most of you guys heard of NetCF 1.0 / 2.0 / 3.5 right?. For those who are not sure here is the brief about it;

The Microsoft .NET Compact Framework (.NET CF) is a version of the .NET Framework that is designed to run on Windows CE based mobile/embedded devices such as PDAs, mobile phones, factory controllers, set-top boxes, etc. The .NET Compact Framework uses some of the same class libraries as the full .NET Framework and also a few libraries designed specifically for mobile devices such as Windows CE InputPanel.

It is possible to develop applications which use the .NET Compact Framework in Visual Studio.NET 2003, in Visual Studio 2005 and in Visual Studio 2008, in C# or Visual Basic.NET. The resulting applications are designed to run on a special, mobile-device, high performance JIT compiler.

To be able to run applications powered by the .NET Compact Framework, the platform must support the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework runtime. Some operating systems which do include .NET CF are Windows CE 4.1, Microsoft Pocket PC, Microsoft Pocket PC 2002 and Smartphone 2003. .NET Compact Framework applications can be run on desktop computers with the full .NET Framework as long as they only access the shared parts of both frameworks, though their user interface can not be upgraded to look like that of an application developed for desktop PCs.

The Microsoft® .NET Compact Framework 3.5 Redistributable contains the common language runtime and class libraries built for the .NET Compact Framework. In addition to version 3.5 support, it also supports applications developed for version 1.0 and 2.0. The .NET Compact Framework 3.5 provides new features such as Windows Communication Foundation, LINQ, SoundPlayer, new runtime tool support, and many other features.

A version of the .NET Compact Framework is also available for the Xbox 360 console. You'll be aware that it offers a number of enhancements in features, stability and performance, and you'll likely also know that it provides full backwards compatability with previous versions of the Compact Framework. What you may NOT know is that when CF 3.5 is installed on a device, applications that target previous versions of the Compact Framework will continue to run against the old versions, and 3.5 and previous versions will live side by side on the device. Only when new devices come along will we see ONLY 3.5 on a device.

Most of the cooked rom is cooked in with this netCF3.5 so you guys must be asking.....so what are the benefit of NetCF 3.5? Read here;

For your info, most of WM's stock rom is using netCF2.0 ! That's why those who are using cooked rom noticed the overall speed and performance gained over the stock rom. By just installing netCF 3.5 over stock rom WILL NOT gain any benefit out of it because this will not override the default netCF2.0 in the system. It's just merely reside in the system and let you install netCF3.5 written application to be install in your device e.g Auto Configurations Tools 3.2 etc etc .......

You need to 'instruct/tell' your system to use this netCF3.5 to really unleash it power! That's what this tweak is all about.

All you need is only 'this' little tool to the job and of course the netCF3.5 file, that's it ! Both are made in cab file for easy installation. Just copy both file to your device and install from your device. No hard reset / soft reset required !! and good news is this will not do any harm to your system

YOU WILL ENJOY 'CLOSE' TO THE SPEED AND PERFORMANCE OF COOKED ROM WITHOUT NEED TO FLASH ONE!
