Soothing your baby to sleep

Hi everyone!

Just wanted to share my experience with all the Mums n Dad's, and the to-be's as well about soothing your LO to sleep. The usual drill would be to ensure the following;

1. Baby is fed, let it be breastfed, or formula (No water under 1 year! LO's who get used to water will be malnourished as they prefer water over milk. Typical asian parents would think that they're only thirsty, and not hungry, therefore feed their LO's water)
2. Diapers are changed and dry. Mamypoko's are best for overnight use despite their heavy price tag ($$$)
3. Not too hot, not too cold. Get a room thermometer. This'll help. Use air conditioning if too hot (But not all the time, it'll dry LO's soft soft skin). LO will not be comfortable on either extreme end.
4. LO is not sick - Get a thermometer to measure your LO, it's a worthy investment. You can get it as cheap as under RM100. My personal preference would be the type that would measure the temperature from the ear as the ones which measure the temperature on the forehead is susceptible to environmental temperature change. You can purchase this at any Pharmacy.

Now. Having said all of the above. Some of you, like myself, may have LO's who are a bit more difficult than usual.

1. Some say manja. Need to hold all the time. True sometimes
2. Some say kena kacau hantu - up to your religion and your personal belief.
3. MOST of the time (In my experience), like we Malaysians would say - MASUK ANGIN/WIND. This means your LO's tummy is bloated (You can check by tapping 2 fingers on your LO's tummy. If it sounds empty even though fed, this means there's angin/wind in it). It's the little bubbles that is formed in the tummy which is hard to 'pop' due to their immature digestive system which causes much discomfort. Therefore LO's keep crying and want to be constantly breastfed or fusses a lot while being fed, and once put to bed, they wake up shortly after due to discomfort.

Now how do we solve masuk angin/wind? Here are a couple of pointers which might work on your LO;

1. Yu Yee Oil Cap Limau

Can be purchased at most pharmacies and Chinese medical halls, approx RM 5.90. Apply on LO's tummy, chest, back, and feet. Make sure air conditioning/ceiling fan/table fan is turned off while applying to avoid further masuk angin/wind. A must have for all babies.

2. Gripe Water

Despite heavy criticism from the western world, thankfully we live in Malaysia. Westerners are not really agreeable with the use of this as it contains a low percentage of alcohol. Malaysia being Malaysia means it's Halal and alcohol free. Safe for babies. 5ML for 1 month - 6 month olds, feed with a syringe. Works under 5 minutes.

3. If you've done the above 2, and your LO still has difficulty sleeping. Try this out - WHITE NOISE.

Go to http://babysleepnoise.com/download.html

Download the 1 hour tracks of all types of sounds; white noise, pink noise (Highly recommended), shower, vacuum, etc. You don't have to burn it into a CD form (Troublesome if you ask me). These days you can just place these mp3's into your smartphone or ipad/tablet.

Now how do we use this? It only works when your LO is calm. If your LO is not calm, it won't work. Make sure your LO is calm and comfy, and you start playing the white noise sounds. Make sure it's not too loud, but loud enough to drown out the surrounding sounds. This WILL LULL your LO to sleep easily, and will also maintain good sleep throughout his/her sleeping time. I did read in some articles that it may damage LO's hearing cos of the constant sound? So after LO falls asleep - better turn it off, otherwise they'd get used to it.

I hope this helps and hey just for everybody's info, this is just my point of view and just sharing.

2,5 hour day care for my Son

Hi there,

Need suggestions/help. Here's the thing;

1. I fetch my Son to school daily
2. After school I usually bring him to my office where I can look after his homework (2pm - 4:30pm). This is highly uncustomary for a non manager/owner of company to bring his Son to work to be looked after... and my manager had highlighted his concerns about people 'talking'.

I need somebody to look after my Son for approx 2.5 hours on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays every week.

My Son is 10 and he's very independent for his age.

I work at Phileo Damansara and preferably as nearby as possible.

HELP!
