Newbie to Adobe Illustrator CS3

Hi,

I'm a newbie to Adobe Illustrator. Since the computer was installed with AI CS3, I am trying to learn it thru online tutorials. By following the instructions, everything works juz fine but whenever i tried apply some effects, eg. 3D effect, Blend Tool, Extrude & Bevel...etc., the colour of the object becomes black. For example, when I draw a triangle with yellow in colour, when I apply Effect>3D>Revolve......the resulting object becomes black in colour.

I'm using AI CS3 on Vista. I'm not graphic programme expert, I'm juz learning it for self improvement. Could anyone pls tell me what happened? Anything wrong with my settings?

Any guidance provided is truly appreciated. Thanks a lot

How to format my laptop?

My laptop got infected with virus. I can't install Kaspersky antivirus because it was installed with Avast. Now, I can't uninstall Avast at all. So, I would like to format it.

I was not given the Windows XP OS cd when i bought the laptop. I tried run "winnt32.exe". Windows XP was reinstalled but I realised that all my files/documents still there. I need some guidances:

1. Is the virus still in the computer after I reinstall Windows XP?

2. I would like to format the C drive but the windows XP OS is in it. How to format C drive? Is it possible to copy the windows xp into CD first? How to do it? What about the drivers for graphic/sound cards?

My laptop only have 1 partition, C only. I really appreciate it if anybody could help me. Thanks in advance

cant start computer through normal way

i'm using laptop ASUS Z99 series. i have problem switching on my computer. there is no response when i press the "power button".

i can only switch on through pressing the button for "window media center" (the button with a music note logo). then computer will start normally and of course, enter the window media center mode. after exit the window media center mode, i can use computer as usual.

after the computer is on, the light on the "power button" is on (green light). there seems no problem with power supply because i can still charge the battery normally. the last time i use the computer, i didn't do anything special and shut it down properly as usual.

the problem now is the only way to switch on my computer is through entering the window media center mode. i would like to know what happen and what should i do? if i keep on switch on the computer through this way, will it damage the computer? could anyone please help me? please, any help would be greatly appreciated.
