Thermal paste too thin?

Hey guys, I have a Clevo custom laptop and it originally came with IC Diamond thermal paste.

However, temperatures have been not satisfactory (up to 96C for ten minutes of gaming), there fore I attempted to repaste the thermal compound.
I first removed the existing compound with 99% isopropyl and cotton swabs. I have found a small scratch on the middle and edges of the processor die. The existing applied IC diamond is also too thick, as it overflows and flowed past the die.

I have repasted it with a thin coat (long line across the die) of Arctic Cooling MX-4. As the temperature only improved slightly, I repasted it again with the same method.

The laptop has failed about one month after the second repaste. And the technicians (from the laptop company) have concluded there is the above mentioned physical damage on the die.
They have blamed me for having too thin thermal paste on the die, with damage caused by metal to metal contact of the heatsink to the die (shown in picture attached).
However the picture shows the thermal compound did indeed cover the entire area of the die, albeit thin.

I have two questions:

1. Can metal-to-metal contact cause such physical damage to the die?
2. Will a thin thermal paste cause such damage?

Thank you very much guys!

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Illegear RE-15 or RS-15

With similar configurations (aside from GTX765m for RE and GTX770m for RS), the price difference between these two models came up to about RM1.6k. I wish to have some opinions to justify the difference in cost!

Apart from the slightly better graphics card, backlit keyboard, dual fans (but not that much difference in temps?), and future upgradeability with the RS-15, is there anything else I should look out for?

Still in a big dilemma about which of these two I should pick

Asus or HP?

Asus N53SV-SSX557V or HP dv6-6114tx?
Similar pricing. Both laptops have similar processor, preloaded RAM etc. Except the HP has a HD6770M and the Asus has a weaker GT540M.

As far as I know the HP Pavillion has 2 memory slots for RAM (4GB stick x1 preloaded), but I'm not sure how many slots are there for the Asus. This will be quite crucial for me as I'm planning to bump the RAM up to 8gb.

Anyone has comments on the general durability of HP/Asus laptops? I guess this will be the deciding factor.
Asus seems to have favourable reviews all the way though..

Torn between these 2. Hope you guys can give me your thoughts on this.
Thanks in advance

Cleaning IEM

Hey guys, how do I clean out the nozzle of the shroom EB? Seems like dust has accumulated in the tiny holes of the nozzle. Should I use a needle or something? Is it safe to stick the needle in a little to clean it out?

Thanks alot
