Secure smartphones to make computer networks obsol

ITPro-Computer networks will never be secure and the only way for us to go forward into to a safer future is to move to smartphones.

This was the view of Eugene Kaspersky, chief executive of Kaspersky Labs, who is set to be inducted into the Hall of Fame at InfoSecurity 2010 this week.

During at interview with IT PRO at the event, Kaspersky said: “So these [smartphone] technologies are being developed so quick that I think in the future there will be enough [room] to store all your personal data, movies, pictures, and I think then there will be no need in computers because, well for what? You need just a keyboard, screen and network.”

However the conversion to using this technology as a replacement for computers is more than just down to their physical attraction.

“[With] the internet and all these computer based networks... it is not possible to make them all [secure] but services and IT are slowly moving the directions of smartphones - reading emails, browsing the internet, what's next?”

Full news

Kaspersky Mobile Security 9.0

Features of the latest mobile security software from Kaspersky..

Check it out: Wirespot Blog

• Private Contacts
With a simple touch of a button you can mark a contact as ‘private’, meaning that no trace of them will appear in contact lists, SMSs and call logs. Other people using your mobile will only see what you allow them to see. All your settings are password protected you can rest assured that your private data remains ‘for your eyes only’.

• Block or Wipe data
Remotely Block your phone if it is lost or stolen by sending a predefined SMS to your phone. You can even choose to remotely Wipe your data. Set a prearranged message that will be displayed on the screen if the smartphone is blocked, allowing anyone who finds your smartphone to return it to you.

• Locate your phone with GPS Find
Just send an SMS with the appropriate password to the missing device and you will receive a link to Google Maps showing the exact location of the device. If the SIM is replaced, SIM Watch will immediately block the device and send you an email with the new number.

• Encryption
Give sensitive information on your phone an extra level of security. Choose the folders on your smartphone that you want to encrypt and password-protect. Even if the folder is located on a memory card, it cannot be accessed from another phone or computer without the correct password.

• Anti-Spam
Are trivial calls or messages distracting you at inopportune moments? Choose which contacts you want to accept calls and messages from. Anti-Spam can run in whitelist mode (only accepting calls and messages from specified contacts) or in blacklist mode (accepting calls and messages from all numbers except those on the list).

• Parental Control
When installed on a child’s mobile, Kaspersky Mobile Security can block outgoing calls or SMSs to undesirable numbers, including premium rate services. GPS Find allows you to pinpoint exactly where your child is at any time of the day or night.

• Anti-Malware Protection and Firewall
Kaspersky Mobile Security provides everything you need to keep your smartphone protected: realtime protection from malware, on-demand or scheduled antivirus scans, automatic updates over-the-air, and blocking of dangerous network connections in line with a predefined security level.
Volcanic Ash Cloud From Iceland

The aviation industry is losing millions every single day as flights are cancelled due to the thick ash cloud which is quickly spreading across Europe. Originating from Iceland, the ash cloud is the effect of a massive volcanic eruption on 14th April 2010. The cloud is unusually rich in glass particles and experts expect the volcano to continue to produce ash for weeks to come.

Many countries in Europe have been forced to completely suspend air-traffic over their territories, leaving thousands of travelers stranded. Of course, people all over the globe are continuously searching for related news and updates on the Internet every day, and cyber criminals are taking advantage of the situation.

Google Trends reveals that "volcano iceland," "uk airspace" or "flights canceled" are amongst the hottest search topics in the USA at the moment.
Seeing a golden opportunity, cyber criminals are employing artificial page rank inflation techniques, collectively known as black hat search engine optimization (BHSEO), to push malicious links to the top pages of search results.

At the moment, general search request like ‘Iceland volcano pictures’ leads to malicious websites beginning from the second rank. These websites display fake security alerts to convince users to download and install fake antivirus programs on their computer. Producing bogus reports, the applications urge users to pay for the fake antivirus solutions and in the process, attempt to steal their financial information.

Remember, it is important to use reliable software to protect your computer and it is always safer to get your news from trusted and reputable sources online.

WirespotSource
