Shutting down my website

In a couple of weeks, I'm planning to shutdown my website because I find it too hard to bring in traffic all alone, and because I cannot dedicate my life too much on it. Nevertheless, I would like to make myself a post mortem or investigation of why the site is failing, so maybe in the future, if I want to open a new one, I'd know all those issues.

What are the points that I should take note off? What are the things needed to make a startup website successful? Here's what I could think off : Time management, Manpower..

And since that I will be moving to Penang next January to work as a consultant (ironic...), I'll try to open a new one.. MMO games related website has bored me.

Yesterday, we noted the latest developments which contains some fantastic additions but a shakeup at the top among the ranks may bring about the real change that Age of Conan needs."

Warhammer Online ships 1.5 million copies

Mythic Entertainment has announced that its fantasy MMO, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, has shipped 1.5 million copies to retailers in preparation for its global release on Thursday.

The game has also set a company record for the most retail pre-orders for any PC game in publisher EA's history.

Earlier this year Funcom's Age of Conan shipped 700,000 copies to retailers for its release, while World of Warcraft expansion The Burning Crusade sold 2.4 million copies to actual customers - not retailers - in its first 24 hours on sale.

Those who pre-ordered Warhammer Online have been able to download and play the game since the "head start" began yesterday (Sunday, for Collector's Edition owners). Servers are already very busy, with long queues on the more popular Destruction side, due to population capping.

If you want to turn your lady friend into a gaming fan, here’s some advice from Xbox Live community manager Christa Phillips: Don’t be a jerk.

Sounds obvious enough, but the statement earned knowing laughs and enthusiastic applause from the standing-room-only crowd gathered for the “How to Get Your Girlfriend Into Gaming” panel at the Penny Arcade gaming convention in Seattle recently.

Seems some of you game-playing gents like to throw the controller, use four-letter words and ignore company when you’re immersed in a video game. And that’s just no way to convince your sweetie to forego date night for a little co-op “Castle Crashers.” “The game becomes the enemy, like sports,” said Phillips.

The five girl-gamer panelists had other advice for the audience of 100-plus: Don’t impose your favorite game on your gal pal. “Girlfriends may not be into ‘Halo,’ but they might like something else, so don’t force ‘Halo’ on them and expect them to love gaming,” said Cori Roberts, editor of Gameinatrix.com.

Davin Loh, a freelance writer from Chicago, has been down that road. His girlfriend played “Halo” for five minutes and got dizzy. He came to the panel to get tips on how to get her into games other than “Rock Band” and “Elite Beat Agents.”

(It’s worth noting that said girlfriend, Aleen Lee, trucked across the country to attend PAX — and the panel — with her beau.) She countered that she’s not opposed to gaming at all — she’s just busy with her job as an attorney. “When I do have free time, I don’t want to be blowing things up,” she said.

There’s definitely more to games than blowing things up, said panel participants. Your wife may not want to score headshots in “Gears of War,” but she might dig playing “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.” Licensed properties such as “Harry Potter” or “Spider-Man” may earn an eye-roll from the hard-core gaming crowd, but “name recognition can hook people,” said panelist Jane Pinckard, editor of GameGirlAdvance.

Here’s another idea: Play co-op. Many games have a cooperative mode, where you and a buddy can tackle missions as a duo. Or if that’s still too intimidating, have your girlfriend sit with you and watch while you game. Heck, you can even ask her to be your wingman, said Phillips.

“Ask her to help you spot snipers,” she said. “Chicks like flattery. If she feels like she’s helping, then you’re making it a positive experience.”

So, what are some other good games for noobs? Internet casual games — which are popular with the female set — are a great entrée into the video-game world. Some are just online versions of offline games, such as poker and Sudoku, and still others are variations of well-known themes, such as match games and hidden-object puzzles.

And, of course, everyone gave props to Nintendo for making gaming more inclusive. Heck, Carrie Underwood has a pink DS, right? And the Wii made being a gamer as easy as operating a TV remote.

But plenty of audience members — who lined up to ask advice as though the panel were a live-action “Loveline” session — wanted to know how to turn their Wii-fan woman into a harder-core gamer. And another common lament: My girl games, but won’t identify herself as a gamer. How do I get her to cop to it?

Good luck, said the panelists. Until recently, the vast majority of gamers were young boys, and games were considered toys. There’s still a stigma attached to gaming — and that’s not going to change overnight.

But Nicole Tanner, moderator of the panel and PR director at game company Foundation 9, said the gamer label isn’t important. “Playing the game is what counts, not identifying as a gamer.”

Two papers presented on August 5, 2008, at the Annual Convention of the American Psychological Association (APA) in Boston, MA (USA), demonstrated that some videogames can help improve the ability to solve problems and dexterity.

In a paper titled Children's Problem Solving During Video Game Play, Fordham University psychologist Fran C. Blumberg, PhD, and Sabrina S. Ismailer, MSED, presented the results of a study that examined the problem-solving skills of grade-school aged children while they played videogames.

The subjects (122 fifth-, sixth- and seventh-graders) were asked to play a video game that they had never seen before. For 20 minutes during the game, the children had to think out loud so the researchers could gauge how they were thinking about and perceiving the situations in the game. It was found that younger children tended to focus better at in-game problems than the older children who played simply for enjoyment. The younger children also seemed more interested in setting short-term goals than the older children.

Yesterday I bought the latest Renoma handbag. The girl that was attending to me mentioned that if after several days I found that there are some scratches or whatever problems, I cannot send it for "repairs". She said that ONLY Renoma doesn't have this sort of after sales service like the rest of designer brands, such as LV or Braun Bussel.

Is this true? Why the discrimation?

Squeeky middle button mouse

I have your typical mouse which have left and right button, and a middle button which is your typical roller.

It's fine, but I hate the squeeky sound it makes when I roll it up or down when scrolling up/down. I've put WD40 on the roller mechanism but unfortunately leaving my finger with this foul smell each time after I use my PC.

Any idea on how to get rid of the squeeky sound?

Frontpage layout

IMO the frontpage is very very long, so I would like to suggest the following things:

1. Split into several pages (which u have done but at the bottom). Maybe 2 articles per page max.
2. Images be put into thumbnails, and opens in a new window

Just my 2cents.

Hello, I'm very new in here.

I was looking for a specific thread about general online gaming, but I guess this is the right one hmm.gif

I have a set up a website for the first time and having trouble getting contents. You see, I want to get hard to find Korean MMO wallpapers (anyone into Mabinogi? ^^ ), but the thing is I have no idea what Korean MMO games I should feature in my website. Normally I'd play English games such as Silkroad (meh..still level 60+) and Cabal..so my knowledge in Korean MMO is not really that good.

Your suggestion of popular Korean MMOs is VERY much appreciated.

p.s: I already have Mabinogi, Huxley and SUN.
