Help! slow PC start up P5Q Deluxe Mobo

Hi guys, I am having a big problem here.

I just upgraded some hardware for my pc, and now it takes a very long time to start up.

After I switch on my pc, it take more than 20 second just for the Post screen and beep sound. All the fan and and hardware are working except that my monitor will be in standby mode(orange status light), and it will stay that way for 20+ seconds and finally you will get to hear the single beep sound and the POst Screen (Ali Logo).

Not sure what happen but here are my spec, I am suspecting there is something wrong with my motherboard P5Q Deluxe.

so here is my pc's spec.
1) Asus P5Q Deluxe motherboard,
2) Intel pentium D 3.2ghz (Intel Pentium D940)
3) Asus 512mb 9800gtx+ graphic card
4) Pioneer dvd burner
5) 8gb Ram(4x 2gb kingston KHX8500AD2K2)
6) Deepcool killer whale heatsink.
7) seagate 750gb HDD
8) fan 2 standard size fan and 1 12" fan
9) accbel 610Watt PSU.
The slow start up does not only occur during cold boot, it happens every time I switch on or restart the pc.

a. Tried updated to the latest bios(1406), but doesn't help.
b. Only start the pc with minimum peripherals, same thing - RAM, VGA, HDD, keyboard, mouse.
c. Tried removing the HDD too, still slow.
d. Removed the keyboard and mouse, also doesn't help.
e. I had tried removing the RAM and left only 1 RAM on the board, the loading time needed seems to fall down to 8-10 seconds. I switch with another corsair 1gb RAM, it took the same amount of time around 8-10 seconds, but when I put back all 4 stick of RAM the load time needed to start up got crank back up to 18-20 seconds

So not really sure what's the problem, please help me.

How to apply CPU thermal paste the right way?

Edited:I think sunbeam CCF can't be fitted on P5Q deluxe board, as it have almost the same layout as maximus formula II, so decided to change to Deepcool Killer Whale.

Hi guys, I wanted to change my heat sink to deepcool killer whale for my P5Q deluxe board, but before this I had never try changing the heat sink myself.

Btw where can I get tuniq tx-2?

So to fool proof my heat sink changing attempt.... I would like to have some guide on how to apply the thermal paste, as I heard grain of rice method doesnt work with this heat sink.

1. What I am not sure now is, how much thermal paste to apply?
2. do I need to spread them evenly?
3. what tools should I use to spread them, as I read that, we are not suppose to use our finger as they are oily in nature.

Thanks, if you think of anything that I might had missed to ask, please feel free to give me the extra info too.

How you all customize your desktop? want to learn

Hi guys, I just jump on the linux (ubuntu) bandwagon, as for what I heard, linux is the most customizable OS in the world. So the desktop should be much much more customizable as compare to Windows, but as far as I can see in the Desktop Customization thread in LYN, all of them are for windows. So I wonder why.

Anyway, I really wish to change the look of my desktop, I had installed emerald and downloaded some themes, but those themes doesn't affect my panel and other part of the window, it only affect the title bar(the bar with the minimize, maximize and close button).

So I wonder is there a way to change the colours of panel and other parts to match the title bar?

and also how can we change the icons in linux(ubuntu)?

Feel free to post you screen shot and guide here, I wish to learn more. Thanks

p.s.
[BUG] the frame that keeptrack of quest

After the The Black Temple patch, I had been having problem with the quest completion criteria frame (it will show when u shift+click on any quest in your quest log, or auto display when u meet a certain requirements of the quest).

Mine tends to get block by the right action bar? It constantly stay behind both the right action bar totally blocking half of the text. This problem seems to appears after the black temple patch, it was all ok pre-patch.

At first I thought it was a bug, and blizz will fix it soon, but after a couple of maintenance, I still dont see it fix, so I guess I could be the only one experiencing it and doesnt know how to fix it.

I tried to seach it on the official forum, but found nothing regarding this, google also yield no results

So I wonder if anyone of u did experienced this b4? and if you do, I hope you can teach me how to deal with it, coz I am not really comfortable when I need to constantlly open up my quest log to view what requirements had I met.

hm... and I dont really fancy using mod/ui that do what blizz already provide (such as a mod call monkey quest, which keep tracks of quest).

Thanks in advance.

WoW, Vista and graphic card question.

Hi everyone, I am currently thinking of swtiching over to vista. My pc spec is ;-

Intel Pentium D 3.2ghz (duo core, not core 2 --- I am poor )
3 gig DDR2 667mhz RAM
nvidia geforce fx 7600gs 256mb graphic card (pci express I think)

here are the minimum requirement for running Home Premium / Business / Ultimate version from microsoft site

QUOTE

#1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
#1 GB of system memory
#40 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space
#Support for DirectX 9 graphics with:
    *      WDDM Driver
    * 128 MB of graphics memory (minimum)
    * Pixel Shader 2.0 in hardware
    *      32 bits per pixel

So now the question is, I know that my pc meets the minimum requirements, but let say I installed vista Home Premium / Business / Ultimate version under this secnario :-

1) using 1680 x 1050 resolution (wide screen), and
2) having the aero theme and glass effect constantly on.

Do my WoW still run smoothly without any performance or fps dropping? (my wow running at 1680 x 1050 now too)

or I am advice to better not switch to vista? I know this is not really suitable here, but since I can see quite some ppl playing WoW is using vista in here, so I thought I could get some nice feed back from u all. Thanks for the advice in advance.

LF guild.... in frostmourne (Alliance).

Em... I had been playing a hunter for quite some time in frostmourne, and had been guild jumping quite a lot, not that it is my hobby or so for guild-jumping, it just that I always get invited into guild that is either in active (3 -4 members online including me most of the time) or too much 12 years old (crying in guild channel 24/7 for some childish thing). Therefore most of the time I am guild-less.

So I wonder is there any +8 GMT guild in frostmourne, which is recruiting? I dont mind if the guild is new, or small, coz the quantity was never a matter, what matter is the quality. If possible, I would prefer that the guild would like to have a hunter in their raid.

Thanks, hope it is alright to post a thread like this here, sorry if it is not.

edited: sorry that I left out the the faction info earlier, I am in alliance side.

3.5mm jack output extension cable

Hi guys, I recently tried to hooked up my dvd player to my altec lansing speaker. but since my speaker uses a 3.5mm jack while my dvd player uses RCA cable so i had use the following adapter to merge them together.

and everything works fine.

The problem is that now I would like to place the Dvd player a little further, and the cable is not long enough, so may I know where could I get a 3.5mm jack extension cable for it?

Since it is an output, do I need to specify that I need a output cable? or the extension cable can be use for both way (output and input)?

Thanks in advance

The other day, I was having some screen freezing on single player mode, during the start of the "grist" mission (the level where you can the cog tag underneath the couch). After you exit through the cog tag underneath the couch room, we will have to fight some locust including boomer.

I had played around 4 to almost 5 hours when I was in that level, and everytime the grenade that the boomer shot exploded I will experience graphical lag, as the screen totally freeze, then after a few second it return to normal. After I killed the boomer, i quickly turn off the xbox. This really scare me. could it be a symptom of the 3ROD?

Please advice.

p.s. After I configure the clock it will be alright, but when I turn off the console and turn it back on later again the clock will return back to 8pm 2005 no matter how many times I tried.

I had logged into my gamertag, I actually discover the time run away when I press on the guide button while I was half way playing a game, so confirm logged into my gametag.

I my gamertag was set to singapore and I even change my windows live ID location to singapore, so it shouldn't be a country problem.

I hope someone here can provide me with some help. Thanks in advance.

XBOX360 loose compartment or normal?

Hi everyone, just got my XBOX360 today. Was kinda excited initially, but when I reach home and was trying to set it up, I can feel like there are some plastic thing moving in my Xbox360 when I carry it. give it a little shake, or every time when I switch it from the horizontal to vertical position or vice versa. I think it is plastic coz it sounds plasticky. The sounds come from some where near the hard disk, or below the hard disk area.

By the vibration that it is giving me and from its sound, I think it is something small.

I am really not sure whether this is normal or I have some loose compartment in my XBOX. This really worries me. I hope the you guys could help me figure it out.

Thanks inadvance.

p.s. Mine is an unmodded set.

CentOS 4.4 Sound problem -high frequncy distortion

Hi everyone, I am a newbie on linux, just started using CentOS yesterday, apparently CentOS is very nice, but the problem is that it is now very entertaining. I am even having problem playing music.

The system can detect my sound card through Application>System Setting>Sound Card detection, but whenever I click on the "Play test sound" the test sound will be played along with a very high frequency distortion (sounded something like "tiiiiiiiiiiii.....").

Initially I thought it was normal so I went and play some music with XMMS player, but again the music was also played along with the exact same high frequency distortion.

I hope some one can teach me what shall I do to solve this. Is there any configuration I can make or it is purely a sound card problem? By the way I am playing the music through a headphone, the frequency really make me nuts.

Here is the screenshot:

Thanks for the help inadvance.

System not loading

Hi everyone,

I am having some issue with my few months old desktop. the system is running fine a few days back, but when I switched it on yesterday, it doesn't load anymore.

The power is there, the fan is running, the cd-rom works, the LED light on the mother-board is there, and the hard-disk is spinning, but it just wont load, not even into bios, not a single thing, the screen just stays blank. I am sure that the monitor is working and the cable is plugged in.

When I switch on the power, the the red loading LED light will light up constantly (not blink), I am not sure what is the problem as i am not much of an expert in hardware wise.

Hope someone can give me some useful hints on how to solve it or atleast what I can try to troubleshoot it?

Thanks inadvance.
