Hey guys! I just got myself an excellent e-book reader (iriver Story HD), and I've been transferring lots of content from my Macbook Pro to it, including my lecture slides. However, it has just come to my attention that my eReader, unlike other devices that I own, displays all the hidden files that are created when files are transferred from my Mac to the internal storage of my device.

For example, when I transfer a file named "Lecture01.ppt", another dot file would be created as well named ".Lecture01.ppt". It just makes my folder organisation look very messy when there are duplicate files in the device.

I know how to remove hidden files in Terminal, using the 'rm' command, but I don't really think that's the best way to solve this issue that I'm facing.

Any ideas on what I should do to prevent these files from being created when I transfer content from my Mac to my eReader?

Amy Winehouse dead

A press release from the Metropolitan Police, which doesn't specifically name Winehouse, says:

"Police were called by London Ambulance Service to an address in Camden Square NW1 shortly before 16.05hrs today, Saturday 23 July, following reports of a woman found deceased.

On arrival officers found the body of a 27-year-old female who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Enquiries continue into the circumstances of the death. At this early stage it is being treated as unexplained."

Last month, Winehouse canceled her European tour after a performance in Serbia where she seemed completely out of it.

KUALA LUMPUR 20 Julai - Portal berita propembangkang dikesan mengubah video berhubung kejadian yang berlaku pada perhimpunan haram Gabungan Pilihan Raya Bersih dan Adil (Bersih) pada 9 Julai lalu, bagi memburukkan imej polis.

Tindakan pihak berkenaan dianggap melampau apabila mereka dikatakan membuat teknik ubahan (tampering) pada klip video itu.

Sumber berkata, hasil himpunan video yang diperoleh untuk didedahkan kepada umum, polis mendapati terdapat klip yang dibuat pertindihan suara.

Menurutnya, selain itu, polis juga telah memperoleh video asal tentang dakwaan blog-blog tertentu bahawa polis bertindak membiarkan seorang lelaki yang memerlukan bantuan perubatan dalam keadaan bergari.

Katanya, dakwaan dan tohmahan yang dibuat kononnya polis telah bertindak kejam dan mengamalkan kekerasan melampau adalah tidak benar.

"Terdapat video yang menunjukkan tindakan seorang peserta perhimpunan haram yang sanggup menunggu kedatangan polis untuk memulakan kekacauan," katanya kepada Utusan Malaysia di sini, hari ini.

Dalam klip video tersebut, penunjuk perasaan itu dilaporkan duduk bersila sambil memberitahu rakannya yang lain, 'dia (polis) tak datang, kita (penunjuk perasaan) gagal," merujuk kepada usaha mereka untuk menunggu kehadiran polis sebelum menimbulkan provokasi.

Sumber itu menambah, pendedahan yang akan dibuat oleh Ketua Polis Negara, Tan Sri Ismail Omar selepas ini perlu diamati dengan sebaik-baiknya oleh masyarakat.

Katanya, masyarakat perlu melihat bagaimana usaha peserta perhimpunan berkenaan yang sebenarnya mencipta provokasi terhadap polis.

"Masyarakat juga perlu menilai ketelusan yang diuar-uarkan portal berita propembangkang apabila mereka sanggup membuat pertindihan suara dan teknik ubahan dalam video yang diambil.

"Berdasarkan tindakan itu, portal tersebut perlu dikenakan tindakan tegas berikutan kesalahan memaparkan berita palsu kepada pembaca untuk memburuk-burukkan pihak keselamatan," ujarnya.

iPhone 4; Simply Out Of The World? No, Really

So just yesterday, at 11:29AM EDT, a space shuttle named Atlantis shot right into space from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, for it’s final shuttle mission, STS-135. I do not know what that code name stands for, but no matter what it is, it is super cool in my book!

This program, or rather, mission, has been conducted for more than 30 years in their efforts to explore, and learn more about the world, the solar system, and the universe. Yeah yeah, that’s very cool. But what does this have to do with the iPhone 4? Well, what we don’t already know, is that the Atlantis shuttle will also be carrying not one, but two iPhone 4′s to the Internation Space Station for this experiment. These phones are apparently “space certified”, and have a SpaceLab for iOS; an app specially designed for this experiment that will allow astronauts to conduct several experiments.

According to Mac Rumors, once the experiments are complete, the phones will be returned to Earth via the Russian Soyuz vehicle, as early as this fall. Flight data will be collected, analyzed, and then shared via the SpaceLab app.

The iPhones were selected to be part of this experiment as an alternative to various other expensive equipments. Well, at least, if both the iPhones were to fail the tests, it wouldn’t be much of a loss – compared to the amount of money they had to fork out over the past 30 years for this mission that is.

This is no doubt an amazing feat for Apple, as they announced the App Store just three years ago. Yes, we’ve seen some rather crappy applications like the “I Am Rich” application that had a price tag of $1000, and had no functionality at all, but we’ve also seen several amazing applications that fully make use of the responsive touch screens of the iPod Touches, iPhones, as well as the iPads. Games like Angry Birds, Tap Tap Revenge, and Pocket God have all managed to turn the once, small software developing companies, into big names right now. Lots of developers choose to develop for the App Store mainly due to its popularity, as well as the simplicity of doing so.

The Android Market has been enjoying a good run of late, as they’ve managed to hit 4.5 billion downloads. Oh, maybe I should mention that its last billion happened in a mere two months! Now that’s something the officials over at Google would be proud about. Only time will tell if Google’s Android Market will be able to surpass the amount of downloads the App Store is currently enjoying.

iSteve: The Book of Jobs? Nahhh

Earlier this year, Simon & Schuster, a well known publisher founded in city of New York years ago, announced that Walter Isaacson’s “iSteve: The Book of Jobs” will be published early next year. Prior to that announcement, there were plenty of rumors flying around saying that Isaacson had indeed spent a lot of time interviewing Steve Jobs, his family members, his colleagues at Apple, as well as his competitors.

According to Fortune, the title iSteve : The Book of Jobs that was chosen by those at the publicity department in Simon & Schuster, which as you may have guessed already, did not exactly impress the author of the book, Walter Isaacson. Maybe that title was a little too long. Or maybe he didn’t find it at all attractive. Oh I know why! He didn’t like the iSteve bit! Okay honestly, I don’t know. But for some reason, he just didn’t like the title.

Well, that doesn’t matter anymore, as he has succeeded in getting a new title of his choice approved. Wait for it. I said wai- okay never mind. Here you go.

Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson

Nope, I’m not kidding. That’s actually the title of Steve Job’s biography, and I’m pretty sure Isaacson spent a lot of time in his study room cracking his head before he came up with that one. Well, I guess this very same concept applies for Apple products – most of it anyway; Simple, but it just works.

This book will be out on the 6th of March 2012, so if you’re a fan of Apple, or Steve Jobs for the matter, be sure to grab a copy of it. There might just be an explanation to why he wears the same clothing in each WWDC conference.

PS4 To Be Released Next Year?

A New PlayStation Console?

Remember how crazy we all went after we learned that Sony had developed a Playstation console, namely the PS One, solely to fulfill our gaming needs, in the year 2000? Yeah, I’m sure you do. Anyway, after the release of the PS One, Sony went on to build a huge gaming community with the release of the PS2 console, which at that time, was simply amazing. They then realized that lots of gamers did not actually have the comfort to play their games on the go, and ingeniously, came up with the PlayStation Portable device, which of course, is portable, in case you haven’t guessed already. They then went on to update their consoles with the PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim, PSP2000, PSP3000 as well as the PSPGo, which were all extremely impressive.

Earlier this year, Sony Corp officially unveiled their latest handheld device, the PS Vita. On the 27th of January, during the PlayStation Meeting 2011 event to be exact.
Now, a couple of guys over at Taiwan are rather certain about the announcement of a brand new PlayStation console, and are telling those at Digitimes to expect the PS4 to be released early next year. We haven’t actually received any proof regarding this matter, but the PS3 has been around for quite a while now, and I guess it’s pretty safe to say that we can actually look forward to a brand new console, soon. Apparently, the production of the PS4 will begin later this year. Honestly, your guess, is as good as mine.

What can we look forward to seeing in it? Some believe that it’ll drop in 2012 with ‘Kinect’ style gaming. These a merely rumors, so it would be best for us to just wait until Sony, or a spokesman for Sony clears everything up for us.

After the security breaches, and all that unwanted fame Sony Corp received in the past few months, an official announcement of a brand new console would definitely help restore the image of this company. At least, they’d be hoping it will.
