Hidden Files (.files)

Hey guys! I just got myself an excellent e-book reader (iriver Story HD), and I've been transferring lots of content from my Macbook Pro to it, including my lecture slides. However, it has just come to my attention that my eReader, unlike other devices that I own, displays all the hidden files that are created when files are transferred from my Mac to the internal storage of my device.

For example, when I transfer a file named "Lecture01.ppt", another dot file would be created as well named ".Lecture01.ppt". It just makes my folder organisation look very messy when there are duplicate files in the device.

I know how to remove hidden files in Terminal, using the 'rm' command, but I don't really think that's the best way to solve this issue that I'm facing.

Any ideas on what I should do to prevent these files from being created when I transfer content from my Mac to my eReader?

Thanks.

iPhone 4; Simply Outta The World?

iPhone 4; Simply Out Of The World? No, Really

QUOTE

So just yesterday, at 11:29AM EDT, a space shuttle named Atlantis shot right into space from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, for it’s final shuttle mission, STS-135. I do not know what that code name stands for, but no matter what it is, it is super cool in my book!

This program, or rather, mission, has been conducted for more than 30 years in their efforts to explore, and learn more about the world, the solar system, and the universe. The STS-135 (damn, I just love saying it) crew will deliver the Raffaello multi-purpose logistics module filled with more than 8,000 pounds of supplies and spare parts to ensure that the space station operations are sustained even when the shuttles are retired.

Yeah yeah, that’s very cool. But what does this have to do with the iPhone 4? Well, what we don’t already know, is that the Atlantis shuttle will also be carrying not one, but two iPhone 4′s to the Internation Space Station for this experiment. These phones are apparently “space certified”, and have a SpaceLab for iOS; an app specially designed for this experiment that will allow astronauts to conduct several experiments.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Limb Tracker - This navigation experiment will involve taking photographs of the Earth and matching an arc to the horizon through manipulation of an overlay. This performs the function roughly equivalent to a “manual” horizon sensor. It will yield an estimate of altitude (height above the surface) and “off axis” angle, a measurement of the angle of the image with respect to the Earth’s center.

Sensor Cal - This sensor calibration experiment uses a series of photos of a reference image, combined with propagated information using three-axis gyro and accelerometer measurements to calibrate the gyros and the accelerometers (i.e. bias and scale coefficients). This will improve the knowledge and accuracy of subsequent measurements.

State Acq - State Acquisition - This navigation experiment uses a series of photos of a reference image and of the Earth, combined with information from the three-axis gyro and accelerometer, to estimate the position of the spacecraft (latitude and longitude). The position estimation is generated by manipulating and matching a wireframe overlay of the Earth’s coastlines to the acquired Earth image(s). Performing multiple sequences, separated by a known amount of time, can permit estimation of the spacecraft’s orbit parameters.

LFI Lifecycle Flight Instrumentation - This experiment will characterize the effects of radiation on the device by monitoring certain areas of memory for Single Bit Upsets – an unintended change in value of a memory location caused by exposure to radiation.

According to Mac Rumors, once the experiments are complete, the phones will be returned to Earth via the Russian Soyuz vehicle, as early as this fall. Flight data will be collected, analyzed, and then shared via the SpaceLab app.

The iPhones were selected to be part of this experiment as an alternative to various other expensive equipments. Well, at least, if both the iPhones were to fail the tests, it wouldn’t be much of a loss – compared to the amount of money they had to fork out over the past 30 years for this mission that is.

Source : YS Tech

Great! Trying to kick start your business right from your Google+ account? Um, not so great – yet. According to Christian Oestlien, of Google, the current offering of Google+ is mainly for consumers, but he did mention that their skillful engineers are working on something that will give users an “amazing Google+ experience for business”.

They haven’t revealed any details yet, but Christian Oestlien for one, seems rather confident that it’ll be able to provide users with a solid foundation to start their business, or even use Google+ as a base to promote their products.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Over the past couple of months, lots of businessmen, as well as major companies have resorted to Facebook to set-up their very own pages to promote their products.
Apple to launch iPad HD?

Apple to Launch ‘iPad HD’ to Lure More Professional Customers?

QUOTE

The folks over at This is my next have just added more icing to the already delicious looking Apple cake by claiming that the next model of the iPad is going to be a HD version of it, named the iPad HD. This crushes all the rumors that have been spreading about the iPad 3 model, and this HD model apparently is being produced to lure potential professional customers into embracing the goodness of the tablet world.

If all goes right, we might also see a number of pro-level applications on the iPad HD, like the Final Cut Pro software, or even Aperture. Here’s what they had to say about this :

Our sources are saying that not only will there be a newly designed iPhone coming in the fall, but there is going to be a new entry into the iPad family as well. As hard as it might be to believe, the new tablet is said to sport a double resolution screen (2048 x 1536), and will be dubbed the “iPad HD.” The idea behind the product is apparently that it will be a “pro” device aimed at a higher end market – folks who work in video and photo production possibly – and will be introduced alongside something like an iPad version of Final Cut or Aperture. This product is specifically said to not be the iPad 3, rather a complimentary piece of the iPad 2 line. Think MacBook and MacBook Pro.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

After all the negative feedback Apple received over their latest edition of their hugely popular Final Cut Pro software, mainly due to the fact that lots of ‘important features’ were apparently left out, or even diluted to make the application much simpler, and neater, we can’t help but wonder if the targeted users would opt to choose the iPad HD – if it really is being produced, that is – over their current set ups.

Will this be a huge success, or a massive failure? We really don’t know, but knowing Apple, and how loyal most of their fans are, we’re pretty sure the iPad HD – once again, if it is ever going to be released – will be embraced with open arms by Apple fanboys around the world, even if they do not have a single clue about Final Cut Pro, or any other pro-level apps.

Source : YS Tech

Another Victim of a Facebook Hack

QUOTE

We earlier received information about the hacking of Anwar Ibrahim's Facebook account, by a group known as LuvSec. Now, another group of hackers have reportedly gained access to the Facebook account of Elisa Lumbantoruan, who is the financial director of Indonesia’s Garuda Airlines. That doesn’t sound too bad, now does it?

Apparently, the hackers did not just stop there. They browsed through his friends’ list, via Facebook chat, and requested for phone credit, of course, by using his name. His kind friends fell for those requests, and the hackers managed to get away with it. Lumbantoruan did not realize that his account was hacked until some of his friends voiced their concerns through his BBM service. He was in China, on a business trip, but he could not verify his friends’ claims as he of course could not access his account in China since the service is blocked there.

“I have just landed and I’ve just realized that my Facebook account was hijacked. I can’t open it again,” said Elisa to a reporter. “I’ll make a new account again soon, to tell everyone that the old one has been hijacked.”

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

He also told his friends to ignore any chat messages, or posts from his account in order to prevent any other scams by the hackers. Apart from that, he also, wisely, reported the matter to Facebook, and requested them to close down his account.

I guess these sort of incidents are bound to happen when you’re famous, and when you have unethical hackers roaming around your profile like hungry vultures. We’ll keep you guys updated on this, or any other Facebook hacking related issues.

Source : YS Tech

Apple's App Store Hits 15 Billion Downloads

Apple’s App Store Hits 15 Billion Downloads

QUOTE

If you’re an Apple fanboy, you definitely have something to shout about right now, as Apple has just announced that the amount of downloads on it’s very own App Store has exceeded the 15 billion mark. Cool huh?

This is no doubt an amazing feat for Apple, as they announced the App Store just three years ago. The amount of support, and feedback it has received from both users, and developers have been amazing. Yes, we’ve seen some rather crappy applications like the “I Am Rich” application that had a price tag of $1000, and had no functionality at all, but we’ve also seen several amazing applications that fully make use of the responsive touch screens of the iPod Touches, iPhones, as well as the iPads. Games like Angry Birds, Tap Tap Revenge, and Pocket God have all managed to turn the once, small software developing companies, into big names right now. Lots of developers choose to develop for the App Store mainly due to its popularity, as well as the simplicity of doing so.

The Android Market has been enjoying a good run of late, as they’ve managed to hit 4.5 billion downloads. Oh, maybe I should mention that its last billion happened in a mere two months! Now that’s something the officials over at Google would be proud about. Only time will tell if Google’s Android Market will be able to surpass the amount of downloads the App Store is currently enjoying.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Apple isn’t the only one benefiting from these mind-blowing figures. Developers have been paid a cool $2.5 billion for all their hard work! With nearly half a million applications in the App Store right now (425, 500 to be exact), iOS users looking for new applications would definitely be spoilt for choice due to the fact that more, and more developers are taking the App Store seriously.

If you’ve got decent programming skills, and you’ve a good idea in mind, then stop wasting time watching videos on Youtube, and instead, pick up a copy of the SDK, and start programming your way to the top right away!

Source : YS Tech

iSteve: The Book of Jobs?

iSteve: The Book of Jobs? Nahhh

Earlier this year, Simon & Schuster, a well known publisher founded in city of New York years ago, announced that Walter Isaacson’s “iSteve: The Book of Jobs” will be published early next year. Prior to that announcement, there were plenty of rumors flying around saying that Isaacson had indeed spent a lot of time interviewing Steve Jobs, his family members, his colleagues at Apple, as well as his competitors.

According to Fortune, the title iSteve : The Book of Jobs that was chosen by those at the publicity department in Simon & Schuster, which as you may have guessed already, did not exactly impress the author of the book, Walter Isaacson. Maybe that title was a little too long. Or maybe he didn’t find it at all attractive. Oh I know why! He didn’t like the iSteve bit! Okay honestly, I don’t know. But for some reason, he just didn’t like the title.

Well, that doesn’t matter anymore, as he has succeeded in getting a new title of his choice approved. Wait for it. I said wai- okay never mind. Here you go.

Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson

Nope, I’m not kidding. That’s actually the title of Steve Job’s biography, and I’m pretty sure Isaacson spent a lot of time in his study room cracking his head before he came up with that one. Well, I guess this very same concept applies for Apple products – most of it anyway; Simple, but it just works.

This book will be out on the 6th of March 2012, so if you’re a fan of Apple, or Steve Jobs for the matter, be sure to grab a copy of it. There might just be an explanation to why he wears the same clothing in each WWDC conference.

Source : YS Tech

PS4 To Be Released Next Year?

A New PlayStation Console?

Remember how crazy we all went after we learned that Sony had developed a Playstation console, namely the PS One, solely to fulfill our gaming needs, in the year 2000? Yeah, I’m sure you do. Anyway, after the release of the PS One, Sony went on to build a huge gaming community with the release of the PS2 console, which at that time, was simply amazing. They then realized that lots of gamers did not actually have the comfort to play their games on the go, and ingeniously, came up with the PlayStation Portable device, which of course, is portable, in case you haven’t guessed already. They then went on to update their consoles with the PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim, PSP2000, PSP3000 as well as the PSPGo, which were all extremely impressive.

Earlier this year, Sony Corp officially unveiled their latest handheld device, the PS Vita. On the 27th of January, during the PlayStation Meeting 2011 event to be exact.
Now, a couple of guys over at Taiwan are rather certain about the announcement of a brand new PlayStation console, and are telling those at Digitimes to expect the PS4 to be released early next year. We haven’t actually received any proof regarding this matter, but the PS3 has been around for quite a while now, and I guess it’s pretty safe to say that we can actually look forward to a brand new console, soon. Apparently, the production of the PS4 will begin later this year. Honestly, your guess, is as good as mine.

What can we look forward to seeing in it? Some believe that it’ll drop in 2012 with ‘Kinect’ style gaming. These a merely rumors, so it would be best for us to just wait until Sony, or a spokesman for Sony clears everything up for us.

After the security breaches, and all that unwanted fame Sony Corp received in the past few months, an official announcement of a brand new console would definitely help restore the image of this company. At least, they’d be hoping it will.

Source : YS Tech
