How You Get Your Malaysia Driving License ?

Driving License In Malaysia

Getting a driving license in Malaysia is not hard as they seem to be. As a matter of fact it’s quite easy to accomplish the whole thing within 2 months given that you feel confident enough to take your test. The usual cost to acquire a competent driving license would cost you around RM 1,000 which is not much getting one excluding the “extra fee” you might want to pay just to make sure you “pass” everything.

The first round would be your test on the rules that you must know in order for you to avoid unnecessary accidents and embarrassments. You will need to score at least 42/50 of the overall questions if not you’ll need a resit for it. The test include color, rules, sign boards & point deduction test. As for me I succeeded the second attempt because I have no idea the translation would be that horrible. My friend did recommended me to take the Malay version but I turn a deaf ear and have no regret for it.

After that you’ll be moving on to taking driving lessons for 8 hours as minimum and 16 hours at maximum. 2 hours per lesson is the usual for any student and of course you can ask for 3 hours per lessons. If my knowledge serve me right each hour cost RM 15. As for me I took a total of 5 lessons which accumulate up to 10 hours of driving on the road. An advice to those who are afraid to inquire well it is the time to really ask about what you don’t know and know just to confirm everything that you have a hunch on.

You’ll need to perform exactly 4 tests on the examination day.

Up hill parking
Side parking
3 point turn
Road test

After probation for 2 years after I’ll be able to exchange it for a CDL (Competent Driver License)

Broadband Speed In Melaka Reaches 1Gbps

MELAKA, Dec 23 (Bernama) -- Broadband Internet service in Melaka is now at one gigabit per second (1Gbps) following the launch of Melaka Metro Ethernet (Melaka Metro-E) on Wednesday.

Telekom Malaysia Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa said that for a start, the Melaka Metro-E network has been fixed in 27 buildings occupied by the state government departments and agencies at a cost of RM5 million.

The new network will enable TM to upgrade and offer the latest voice, Internet and data services such as its Internet Protocal Based virtual network portal and its TM Direct services, he told reporters after the launch of Melaka Metro-E, here.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam launched the service.

Among the 27 buildings to enjoy the network facility will be the Seri Negeri, Wisma Seri Negeri, Melaka International Trade Centre, Melaka Media House, the K-Ekonomi Inkubator building and Yayasan Melaka.

Zamzamzairani said through the upgrading of the network capacity, the government departments and agencies of Melaka will be able to communicate more better and effectively.

The technology also offers a higher level of data protection, cost effective maintenance rate and advanced broadband technology without barriers.

The network service offered to the state government is based on the industry standard Carrier Class Ethernet which can be expanded to other locations.

Zamzamzairani said TM was also working with Melaka ICT Holdings (MICTH) to develop wireless broadband for the entire state through the concept of hotzones and hotspots.

He said the domestic broadband pentration rate in Melaka was now at 29 per cent and that TM was looking into increasing the rate with the help of the state government.

Mohd Ali said the launching of Melaka Metro-E will not only raise the capacity of services from the government departments and agencies but also attract more investors to the state.

He also called on TM and MICTH to organise more seminars to create awareness and encourage the use broadband services among the people.

-- BERNAMA

Source

Investors put off by Malaysia’s

Investors put off by Malaysia’s high-cost, low-speed broadband

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 26 — Consumers in Malaysia pay some of the highest prices for broadband in the region, one major reason being the monopoly which state-owned Telekom Malaysia ™ holds on submarine cable landing rights, a senior executive at a multinational company has asserted.

There is no shortage of gateway service providers seeking landing rights because of the pent-up demand for quality bandwidth, but the government must deregulate or liberalise gateways in order to improve competitiveness by providing larger broadband at lower costs, said Ryaz Patel, Intel Electronics country manager for Malaysia and Brunei.

Patel’s comments that the lacklustre quality and high cost of broadband is hurting the country’s knowledge aspirations come on the heels of warnings by Australian businesses that slow Internet speeds were putting them off investing in Malaysia.

Malaysia Australia Business Council vice-chairman Michael Halpin said large technical documents from Australia had difficulty getting sent over because of the poor quality broadband.

“Australian and American investors see this as a nuisance and an impediment to them to do business successfully here,” he said.

In a press briefing on Intel’s roadmap for 2010, Patel observed Malaysian consumers pay significantly more for broadband, but even to buy broadband wholesale as a service provider was ‘“frighteningly expensive” compared to its neighbours.

His comparison of regional costs showed Malaysian broadband offers some of the lowest speeds in the region, but at the highest costs.

For the fastest bandwidth of 100 megabit per second, Singapore users pay nearly US$85 (RM286.56) or US$10.20 mbps.

For 4mbps in Malaysia, consumers pay US$76. Vietnam’s 3mbps bandwidth — although a tad slower — costs users US$50.55, or US$16.85 mbps.

In the region, broadband costs in Indonesia and India also tend to be higher.

TM is likely to resist liberalisation as it has invested huge sums in infrastructure and now owns or leases capacity on more than 10 submarine cable networks which span more than 60,000 fibre-route miles.

But Patel said if Malaysia aspires to be a knowledge-based society, it needs to get more computers as well as quality and affordable broadband into more homes.

“(And) the single biggest link has to do with landing rights.”

Malaysia is aiming for 50 per cent household broadband penetration next year from about 30 per cent now. Broadband users can access 10MB speeds next year when TM rolls out high-speed broadband in selected suburbs in the Klang Valley in the first phase of its nationwide rollout.

Last month, Thailand broke a state-owned enterprise hold on submarine cable landing rights in the country by granting a licence to the first private operator, True Internet Gateway Co Ltd, which pointed out it would be able to source submarine bandwidth capacity from a wide range of providers directly, resulting in greater bandwidth being available at more competitive prices. — Business Times Singapore.

Souce

Green Packet CEO says losses are short term
By YVONNE TAN

PETALING JAYA: Green Packet Bhd reported a higher net loss of RM31.8mil for its third quarter ended Sept 30 against a net loss of RM10.3mil for the same period last year due to continued heavy promotional activities and investment costs related to the development of its 4G (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access or WiMAX) business.

Revenue for the period however was higher at RM63mil versus RM18.2mil in 2008 while loss per share stood at 8 sen and 3.2 sen respectively.

“The losses are ‘technical, planned’ losses,” group managing director and chief executive officer CC Puan told a media briefing yesterday.

“We are sacrificing short-term profits for long-term gains,” he said.

To-date, the mobile broadband networking solutions provider has spent more than RM337mil in capital expenditure to develop its 4G business which is parked under Packet One Networks (M) Sdn Bhd (P1).

Puan said the P1 planned to spend another RM650mil within the next two years to develop the network and enable it to provide up to 65% coverage of Peninsular Malaysia’s population by 2011. Currently, P1 has 35% network coverage in the peninsula.

The company also had plans to extend its network to East Malaysia and Singapore next year, he said.

Puan said P1’s current subscriber base stood at “more than 100,000” from 10,000 as at the end of last year and the company was on track to meet its target of 200,000 by the end of next month.

“It’s a stretched target but we are on track,” he said.

In the third quarter, PI’s net adds were 36,000 against 25,000 in the second quarter, a growth of 44%.

“P1 WiMAX launched its services less than two year ago and already, we are recognised as one of the top four 4G WiMAX operators in the world,” he said.

Puan said he expected Green Packet to return to the black in the second half of next year with PI targeted to break even (in terms of earnings before interests, taxes, depreciation and amortisation) by the first quarter of 2010.

On the other pillar of Green Packet’s business – the product and solution business which was currently profitable, Puan said he targeted shipments of customer premises equipment to overseas markets to increase to 1.5 million units next year from about 200,000 currently.

The company, he said, targeted sales to total US$97.5mil (RM329mil) based on the average cost of US$65 per equipment.

For the nine months to Sept 30, Green Packet made a net loss of RM81.9mil compared with a net loss of RM17.9mil a year earlier. Revenue was RM161mil against RM63mil.

http://biz.thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?f...49&sec=business

“WiWi" a hybrid of WiMAX and WiFi

WiWi answer to last-mile headaches

PETALING JAYA: Three WiMAX licensees are deploying “WiWi” — a hybrid of WiMAX and WiFi wireless broadband technologies — developed by applied-research institute Mimos Bhd.

The licensees are Redtone International Bhd, Packet One Networks (P1) Sdn Bhd and Asiaspace Sdn Bhd. They are three of the four WiMAX licensees in the country.

Datuk Abdul Wahab, Mimos president and chief executive, said WiWi is a more feasible and cheaper alternative for last-mile connectivity. “It enables the users of WiFi to connect to the Internet at WiMAX broadband speeds,” he added.

“Last mile” refers to the final segment between an Internet or communications service provider’s infrastructure and a subscriber’s premises. The gap is traditonally bridged by a wired connection, such as copper phone lines.

In recent years, service providers have turned to wireless technologies to bridge the gap, since copper lines are more expensive to lay and sometimes aren’t feasible, such as in the case of isolated communities.

Mimos’ WiWi technology takes the wider coverage of a WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) setup and links it to the cheaper WiFi (Wireless Fidelity) system to make the last-mile connection.

Using WiMAX technology exclusively would be very expensive at this point in time, while WiFi just doesn’t have the broadcast reach for such an expansive application.

Also, most computers and other Internet-enabled gadgets now are set up for WiFi connections instead of WiMAX, the specifications of which are still being standardised.

Boost the gain

“WiWi provides plug-and-play broadband hotspots and can enable multiple PCs to access the Internet via a single WiFi connection,” said Abdul Wahab.

He said it will also be easier, cheaper and faster to connect hotels, universities, schools, convention centres and rural communities to wireless broadband with WiWi.

Mimos also claimed that WiWi’s multicasting capability enables the technology to support high-quality Internet Protocol TV services.

Michael Lai, chief executive officer of P1, said the company sees much merit in using the hybrid technology to help bridge the “digital divide,” that gap between the technology haves and have-nots in the country.

“We will try it at the P1 Community Broadband Centre (CBC) in Chini Timur, Pahang,” he said. P1’s CBC was developed as a proof-of-concept telecentre for underserved areas.

On the other hand, Asiaspace and Redtone are looking at deploying WiWi in urban centres and will only take it to the rural areas later.

MIMOS is the winner of two National Intellectual Property (NIP) Awards 2009 namely the Trademark Award for KnowledgeGRID Malaysia, and Industrial Design Award for MIMOS WiWi Access Point and three Malaysia Good Design Mark Awards 2009 for agriculture data collector, MIMOS WiWi wireless router and Jen-ii under the Media and Home Electronics Products Category. MIMOS also bagged the Frost & Sullivan Growth Excellence Award - Industry Innovation & Advancement (Precision Agriculture) R&D Organisation of the Year 2007, through the application of Micro Electro Mechanical System (MEMS) in the field.

Published: Friday August 14, 2009 MYT 12:16:00 PM - The Star Online
http://star-techcentral.com/tech/story.asp...&sec=technology
