Sealer Drying Time

Sifus, one of my contractor quoted quite a low labour fee for painting my 22 x 70 interior only ( sealer + 2 layer top coat). However, his plan was to completing the job in one day using 7 menpower, which is absurdly fast. I was raising the matter of waiting sealer to dry for 2-3 hours as per recommended by dulux manual. However he keep insist he would start applying top coat once the sealer is felt dry before fulfilling the 2-3 hour requirement. Will there be any hidden issues for that practice?

Kitchen concrete top laying question

Hi guys, today is my 1st day of kitchen top concrete laying. Prior to that, the reinforcement rods shall be erected however i had left for work when the contractors were cutting the rods. Later in the evening i went and inspected the progress and found no wall tiles hacked at the area where rebars are inserted and concrete is attached to, and concrete has been poured. I have seen my neighbour house had the adjacent wall tiles hacked off.

What is the main purpose of hacking the wall tiles off? Is it for better adhesion between the concrete and wall?

Hollow Wall and Floor Tiles

Hi all,

I just received my new home 2 weeks ago.
Yesterday i did 100 % tile checking and found that there are quite some hollow wall tiles (15 pcs in kitchen, 17 pcs in master toilet, 13 pcs in other toilets) and floor tiles (7 pcs total). I can feel that some hollowness is minor, while a few particularly are very major, almost one edge of the tiles sound hollow.

I am going to submit the defect list for rectification by today. Not sure how will they be judging the complaints i lodged, and whether they will be replacing every pcs that i reported. Once replacement is confirmed, i think definitely they will hack the affected area and i feel heart pain to have my new home undergoing this process.

Questions is: can replacement be done only on the affected tiles ? Will the adjacent OK tiles be affected pulak after replacing the NG tiles ? Can i just leave the tiles with minor hollowness without problems?

Repainting for New Home

Hi Sifus,

Just received my new home.
Our developer used Nippon Matex Pro White 9102 as top coat for all the white walls of living room and bed rooms.
Based on web research, that paint is actually top coat for ceilings only.
Moreover, visually I can see that the paint thickness is not really adequate.
Definitely i'll need to repaint the interior.

Questions come in:
i) Do i need to apply sealants before applying new top coat, or merely cleaning the surface beforehand will do?
ii) What factors to be considered during picking the new top coat, to ensure the best adherence and final result?
iii) Is it doable by ownselves or better to hire contractors to repaint the interior?

Aircond Size and Inverter/Non-Inverter Type

Hi Sifus,

Can anyone advise on what aircond size and type needed for my master room and living room (Intermediate type)?
Usage will be as follows:
i) Master room - Daily from 10pm to 6am (maybe will set auto turn off at 4am)
ii) Living room - Occasionally at night after work (weekdays + weekend)
- Noon to evening whenever staying at home (weekend)

Myvi 2012 klok klok sound

Hi sifus. 3 months ago after i changed the absorber mountings, the front left chasis started to emit “klok klok klok” noise when the car passes through bumpy road. The noise is more profound and consistent when the car passes those speed limiting stripes on the road. I’ve sent my car to two workshops but none was able to identify the rootcause and resolve the problem.

GPU Problems - Need Help Pls

I've been having few GPU-related issues lately.
Below are the experienced symptoms:
i) During gaming sometimes the system would crash and require forced restart.
ii) After restarting, the display turns black (no input signals shown on monitor), but CPU is running with all the lights on.
iii) Once ii) happens, the issue can be resolved by either of the followings:
a) Withdrawing&reinstalling the RAM and press the GPU harder into the slot, then turn on the CPU. Sometimes it would require a few repetitions of the steps to have the display shown again.
b) Turn off the CPU power supply and disconnect the connectors.Plug off and on the HDMI cable outside CPU case. Connect the electricity again and turn on the computer. It just works.[I]
iv) The display would turn black due to any external impacts onto CPU or HDMI cable.

Could this be the driver issue, hardware installation loosening/dusting issue or the GPU disorder itself?
Appreciate advice from fellow sifus.

samsung seremban SDMA

Anyone had experience working at samsung b4? I got an offer as a process engineer at SDMA Seremban, with 1 year contract. The salary offered is only 2.5k. FYI, I am a fresh graduate and currenty staying in Seremban. I am still consider wether or not to accept the offer. Any thoughts on it?

Hi. Mechanical Engineering fresh graduate here. I have just received an offer from Panasonic. Based on forumers' experience, working life at Panasonic is quite hectic and stressful, but we can learn alot there. FYI, I am a degree holder with no working experience before. So the salary calculations are as follows:

Basic Salary: RM2200
Transport Allowance: RM255
Performance Incentive: RM430
RnD Allowance: RM120

What do you think about the job offer and the pay? In the meantime, I am still waiting for responses from other companies.

Mechie fresh graduate here, graduated on May Frankly speaking, upon some job huntings on web I have realized that I seem to be more interested in banking/IT related jobs (Maybe bcuz of the working environments and job scopes, I personally dislike field work gua). Likewise, during my undergraduate study, compared to those structural/thermo/fluids analytical questions, I was more enthusiasted in solving programming assignments instead. Is it possible for me to embark my career in banking/IT field with a Mech Bachelor degree and general Mech knowledge?

Also, for a fresh graduate with no working experience (graduated from UBC Canada with only a second upper class result T.T), is it commonly possible to get a job with a salary range of 2.8-3k ? FYI, one of my friends with a first class result has just started working at Agilent with 3.3k salary.

Really appreciate any comments from you guys.

1) When will I be getting replies from the government?
2) Can we work in private companies while waiting for the replies?

Pcie gen 2, no device found error message

Hi i just got my new rig yesterday when noticed that theres a "pcie gen 2, cant find any device" error message. Can i know whats the problem? However it doesnt cause any troubles though.

Also, how come the temperature display on my asrock z77 ex4 doesnt light up upon startup? It just show for about 10s during the start up.

I have recently assembled a desktop. I am curious whether the price is reasonable.

Corsair VG LP 8GB 1333mhz kit
Asus gtx 670 2gb
Samsung dvd-rw 22x
WD 500gb HDD sata3
Dell u2312hm
Cm 690 cooler master case
Seasonic Psu 620W

The overall price is 4550. How do you think about the price.

Also i dont know much about GPU. The guy told me that this PSU performs better than gtx580. Is it true?
And has there been any issues with this graphic card?
