If you have a pc/server running 24-7, what will you do? so far I've ventured the following:
-VM to run an automated synchronize file similar to dropbox service.
-webserver to host files using 2 applications

File Hosting

Hi!

I just setup a file hosting server using HFS (HTTP File Server). Right now I'm opening anyone can upload and download into this folder: Full Access Folder - closed for the time being

Come, come, test upload now!

As for download, be careful! Some files are identified as virus. 3 files were uploaded to my file server last night. I did not announce it anywhere but somehow they found it! *I repeat, be extra careful on the files here since I did not put any control.

Hopefully I did not break any Lowyat.Net rules here. If I were, I'm sorry and admin can delete this thread immediately.

Any comments and thoughts are welcomed!

I want to buy a new monitor with 23-24" size. which brand/model do you recommend? my budget is below 1k.

currently I'm looking into Samsung B2330H and DELL U2311H. but still confused which one to choose.
most important features I need are DVI input and high resolution (1920xxxx).

I use my PC for photo editing as well as watching movies.

EPF down from 11% to 8%

Which one will you go? 11% or 8%? Is it worth sacrificing 3% of your saving every month when you know you will get less when you retired? For me better keep it 11%. Anyway, thanks to the government to give us options.

PETALING JAYA: Employees can choose to reduce their EPF contributions to increase their disposable income next year.

The Government has allowed employees to reduce their contributions by three percentage points from 2009 to 2011.

Presently, the employer’s EPF contribution is 12% while employees contribute 11%.

“With the reduction, the total contribution is still at a reasonable rate of 20%, which is 12% from the employer and 8% from employee,” said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

On the RM5bil fund injection into government investing agency Valuecap to stimulate capital market activity, Najib said similar moves had been implemented in other countries such as the Tracker Fund in Hong Kong in 1998, and recently by Qatar Investment Authority and the largest pension fund in Korea.

“The extra fund is acquired from EPF loans which is guaranteed by the Government. Therefore, the loan does not only guarantee higher returns compared with deposit rates from banking institutions but is also a minimum risk investment to EPF,” he said.

But, some workers’ unions felt that savings will be reduced and it will affect the people’s retirement funds.

National Union of Bank Employees (NUBE) secretary general J. Solomon said he hoped that the voluntary offer was only for the time being during the economic crisis.

MTUC president Syed Shahir Syed Mohamud said that reduced savings would not benefit contributors.

“When savings go down it will be followed by a decrease in dividends.

Which FREE antivirus you are using? I believe we must support the usage of freeware nowadays.

I used to use AVG but now I switched to Avira.

Avira is so good even detect viruses which is not detected on my office's laptop Norton Antivirus.

Anyone wanna share?

PC suddeny died

Last night ... when I was playing SPORE, my PC suddenly turn off like the electric suddenly cutoff from my PC. When I tried to press the power on button again, nothing happen .. I switch off the wall socket and switch on again and when I press the power on button, the HDD and POWER LED blink once and nothing happen.

Anyone knows what went wrong? power supply? mobo?
