NIkon D70 PC Problem

I have a nikon D70 that didnt give me any problems before. Lately it has some problem uploading the images to the PC whereby the PC could not detect the tranfer when i swictch on the camera and plug to the computer. Later the camera just shows "PC" and even tough you switch to any mode or press any button it remained at "PC" What is the problem? is this manufacturing defect? The camera was never dropped or suffered any impact. Has nikon deliberately design a camera to last a few years only and self destruct?

at another forum someone commented that nikon singapore issued some notice regarding D70 faulty and defective component.

http://www.nikon.com.sg/service/D70.htm

nikon malaysia however is denying any product defect and not owning up to anything. They say i should replace whatever circit inside and pay $1440. Fort that type of nonsense "repair" cost i might as well but a new camera. The question is should continue supporting the Nikon name by buying their expensive SLR when I can just buy a cheapo digital camera of any brand which is expected to last a year or two. My manual nikon has never given me problems before. I'm starting to lose hope on nikon already..
