A sensible replacement for GTX1080ti GPU

Okay guys I need some advice here.
<s>Based on all the findings, there's a very high chance that my GPU is cooked, since i don't have spare gpu and psu to test I think i will send it to a shop for further testing to confirm if my GPU is dead.</s>
Detailed info: https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/5538275

Sent in to computer shop tested and confirmed GPU died, PSU pcie cables all works fine.

I'm not really keeping up with the latest GPU price and performance etc. I know that my PC is pretty old now, in an ideal world would be full system upgrade. But full system upgrade is just not possible now due to budget constrain.

If I can confirm my GPU is dead, which GPU model replacement is the most sensible?
And my PSU seems like working fine so if can continue using the 8pin cable so no need to replace the PSU?
Removed 8G GPU from the options:
<s>RTX 3060 ti 8gb</s>
<s>RTX 4060 Ti 8G (Asus Dual EVO OC) RM1524</s>
<s>RTX 5050 8G (MSI ventus 2x OC edition) RM1349</s>
<s>RTX 5060 8G (ZOTAC GAMING GeForce Twin Edge OC) RM1569</s>
<s>RTX 5060 8G (MSI Ventus 2x OCC) RM1579</s>

Updated options:
Nvidia
30 series:
- RTX 3060 12gb (MSI ventus 2x OC dual fan) RM1044

50 series:
- RTX 5060 Ti 16G (Asus dual OC PLUS GDDR7) RM2110
- RTX 5060 Ti 16G (MSI shadow 2x OC PLUS GDDR7) RM2139
- RTX 5060 Ti 16G (MSI ventus 2x OC PLUS GDDR7) RM2299

AMD
RX 9060 XT 16G (Asrock dual fan) RM1684
RX 7800 XT 16G (Asus Dual) RM2181

Note: My case can only fit dual fan, all the price above are from shopee, and i cant seem to find much 40 series card at shopee.

Usage:
- I still game occasionally, but not that frequent like last time.
- I do quite a lot of video editing recently using premier pro, photoshop, lightroom, those common adobe suite
- Still using dual monitors both 1080p, no plan to upgrade, unless either one of the monitor dead, then maybe will upgrade the dead monitor to 1440p.

Current PC Specs
• CPU: Intel i7-8700K
• Motherboard: MSI Z370
<s>• GPU: Zotac GTX 1080 Ti Dual Fan (RIP)</s>
• PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower GX1 700W (non-modular)
• RAM: 64gb
• OS: Windows 11
• BIOS: bios already update to latest version 7B61v1B when upgrade to windows 11 last year.

[SOLVED] My GPU dead

No Display from GPU (GTX 1080 Ti)
Sent in to computer shop, they tested and confirmed the GPU is dead, the PSU, PCIE cables etc works fine.
Thanks everyone for the help 🙏

PC Specs
•	CPU: Intel i7-8700K
•	Motherboard: MSI Z370
•	GPU: Zotac GTX 1080 Ti Dual Fan (gg-RIP)
•	PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower GX1 700W (non-modular)
•	OS: Windows 11
•	BIOS: bios already update to latest version 7B61v1B when upgrade to windows 11 last year.

⸻

<s>Problems
•	Normally, when my PC idles, the monitor enters power-saving mode (screen off) but audio (Spotify) still plays.
•	today, when I moved my mouse to wake the display, the screen didn’t turn back on.
•	PC was still running (I could blindly navigate with keyboard, even shut it down). </s>

⸻

<s>Symptoms
•	On restart with GPU connected:
•	No display signal → monitor goes into power-saving mode.
•	GPU logo light turns on.
•	[s]But GPU fans don’t spin at all (on primary PCIe slot).
•	When connecting monitor to onboard graphics (iGPU):
•	PC boots fine, Windows loads normally.
•	Device Manager only shows Intel iGPU, no NVIDIA card.
•	NVIDIA driver installer → error: “No compatible hardware found.” </s>

⸻
<s>
Troubleshooting Done:
1.	Checked display cables & ports
•	Tried both HDMI and DisplayPort.
•	Tried multiple GPU output ports.
•	Monitor works fine on iGPU.
•	No signal from GPU.

2.	Driver cleanup & reinstall
•	Booted into Safe Mode using iGPU.
•	Used DDU to remove old NVIDIA drivers.
•	Tried reinstalling NVIDIA drivers → installation failed (GPU not detected).

3.	GPU reseating
•	Reseated GPU into PCIe slot.
•	After reseating, one time I can briefly see Windows boot logo before it goes black.
•	But still no display in Windows.

4.	Power connections
•	GPU requires dual 8-pin connectors (from a split PCIe cable).
•	Reseated power cables.
•	GPU logo lights up, but no fan spin in main slot.
•	PSU is non-modular, but it have2 PCIe cables, so I use another dual 8-pin connector to connect. GPU lights up but still no display

5.	Tested different PCIe slots
•	In primary PCIe x16 slot → GPU fans never spin, only logo LED lights up.
•	In secondary PCIe slot (x8/x4) → both GPU fans spin briefly at startup, then stop (normal fan-stop feature).
•	But still no display output, and GPU not detected in Windows.

6.	Other checks
•	Monitor + cables confirmed working with iGPU.
•	PC boots into Windows fine on iGPU.
•	GPU still not visible in Device Manager.

Additional Context (Recent Behavior)
•	For the past ~2 weeks, when GPU is installed, I need to press and hold the power button for 30–60 seconds before the PC powers on.
•	Initially suspected case power button issue.

(Now)
With iGPU display connected (GPU not driving monitor):
•	GPU has power (logo lights up, PCIe LED on).
•	Both GPU fans spin briefly, then stop.
•	In Device Manager → GPU not detected.

With GPU connected to monitor:
•	Same behavior (lights on, fans spin briefly, then stop). But no display.

No display signal at all, when I connect the GPU with monitor cable.
•	does this suggests issue is related to GPU (possible short or fault) or PSU struggling under GPU load?
</s>
⸻
<s>
Current Status
•	GPU gets power (LED logo on).
•	In First and second PCIe slot, GPU fans spin briefly (normal), then stop.
•	No display output from GPU on either slot.
•	Windows does not detect NVIDIA GPU at all.
•	Only Intel iGPU is working right now.

⸻
I don’t have spare PC, GPU and PSU to do further testing. That all I can do for now

Any advice or similar experience would be greatly appreciated. 🙏 </s>

APC Surge protector RMA process

A couple of years ago, I posted here asking for recommendations on surge protectors, and I ended up buying the APC Essential SurgeArrest (5 outlets with 5V, 2.4A 2-port USB charger, 230V UK PM5U-UK).
Model: PM5U-UK
Link: https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/5143273

Last week, there was a power trip during a lightning storm. At first, everything seemed fine, but yesterday I noticed that the surge protection LED on my APC unit wasn't lighting up anymore. I remember the surge protection light was always on before.

The power strip itself still works, but I'm unsure if it’s still protecting my devices. I’m guessing it might have lost its surge protection capabilities after the power trip last week.
Could it be that the surge protector did its job and protected my devices during the storm? Really not sure since the light is now off.

So, I started looking for RMA information. I reached out to the APC Official Store on Shopee, and when I asked about the warranty, they immediately requested my receipt. It seems their products only come with a 2-year warranty (I bought mine from All IT Hypermarket).

The official APC website isn’t very helpful either – it only provides a phone number for support, and to contact them through the site, you need to create an account.
Their fbpage chat didn’t respond and also redirected me to their website.

In the end, I called their service hotline and got transferred a couple of times to the APC team.
Here’s the process I went through on the call:
- Verified the model and serial number.
- Did basic troubleshooting (unplugged and replugged the power strip, and confirmed the devices plugged in).
- They initiated the RMA and requested additional info via email.
- They said they would send me a replacement without needing to return the "faulty" unit.

The whole call took over an hour. Their customer service is based in the Philippines, and I found their English a bit difficult to understand at times. But after verifying everything, they confirmed that my unit has a 5-year warranty, which was a relief.

After the call, I got an email requesting my invoice for their records. I contacted All IT's customer service on Shopee, and they quickly sent me the invoice.

Overall, the process was okay. If the LED on your surge protector stops lighting up, I’d recommend reaching out for an RMA because it might no longer be providing protection. And calling their HQ directly seems to speed up the process!

Digi super long life price increased 185%!

My number expire tmr, upon checking the usual RM38 super long life package was gone.
How tf the price increase from RM38 to RM108?

TS replied

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

So many I can't reply all. But overall that's what I think.

It may seem like a small issue, but if we allow one telco to get away with it, others will soon follow suit.

I don't think we should just stand idly by and let this happen.
As consumers, it is our responsibility to speak out against any injustices in the industry.
It may take time and effort, but it is a necessary first step towards resolving this issue.

We have seen in the past, when consumers come together and raise their voices, change can happen.
Just look at the example of Maxis CEO apologizing for their past business practices 7 years ago.
It all started from here, Lowyat forum.
https://www.lowyat.net/2016/100515/maxis-ce...ter-this-month/
https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=3890072&hl=

It's important to remember that small actions, like retweeting and tagging our government officials, can make a big impact in bringing awareness to this issue.
Let's not let this slip under the radar.
Let's take a stand and make our voices heard.
Together, we can create the change we want to see.
https://twitter.com/SJF10284290/status/1617746265504378880

Also tweeted this, hopefully ppl here can help to share and retweet. Thx.
https://twitter.com/SJF10284290/status/1617746265504378880

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Updates:
9-Sept-2023
TL;DR: I've contacted various government agencies, but no action has been taken. My final step is to email and reach out to ministers, including Fahmi, Teo Nie Ching, and Fuziah Salleh. Cheers everyone.

After my report was closed by MCMC, I filed a complaint with KPDN.
The staff at KPDN contacted me, and they understood why I filed the complaint. However, they informed me that KPDN can't issue any summon to Digi; only MCMC has the authority to do that.
As a result, my case with KPDN was closed and marked as "out of jurisdiction".
They advised me to file a complaint with Biro Pengaduan Awam (PCB), which is under PMX. Most government agencies are cautious about PCB, and they are likely to revisit the case.

And it sure did, after several months of back-and-forth with PCB, MCMC CFM reached out to me again.
However, they told me, "We have done the utmost within the limits of the provisions in the GCC, available at this MCMC GCC Practice." In short, they couldn't take further action.

I'm now out of options, and I've tried my best. My final attempt is to reach out to the ministers, including Fahmi, Teo Nie Ching, and Fuziah Salleh. I don't have high expectations, but it's my last effort.
Email sent

10-Apr-2023
The fight continue, file a report on KPDN

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Dear KPDN,

I am writing to file an official complaint against Digi Telecommunications for its recent increase in pricing for the (Super Long Life) package from RM38 to RM108. This represents an outrageous increase of 185.71% and is a blatant act of profiteering and exploitation.

I would like to highlight some key issues that have left me extremely frustrated with Digi:
- The increase in pricing for the (Super Long Life) package from RM38 to RM108. (185.71%)
- The new package was hidden from users and only made available to those with RM108 or more credit balance, which is a clear indication that Digi intended to exploit its customers.
- A clear indication that DIGI intended to exploit their customers and make a profit by concealing the package.
- The sudden change in pricing has caused users a significant financial burden.

These actions show a complete disregard for the well-being and loyalty of Digi's customers and have caused me great frustration and anger.
I urge the KPDN to take immediate action to restore the normal pricing and ensure that the validity option remains available regardless of the user's credit balance.

Sincerely,

Digi refunded RM70 for me, because they refund on goodwill LMAO. Without my permission, they forcibly upgraded my package and changed (Super Long Life) pricing package from RM38 to RM108, which represents an increase of 185.71%! I believe this is a clear act of profiteering and exploitation of their long-term, loyal customers.

I have also come to understand that the new package was hidden from the users, and it was made available only if I had RM108 or more credit balance. This is a clear indication that Digi Telecommunications had intended to exploit their customers and make profit by hiding the package and forcing users to upgrade without their consent. This kind of behavior is unacceptable, and I am disgusted by the actions of Digi Telecommunications.

Phone number is just as important as my identity card in today's society, and the sudden change in pricing has caused me significant financial burden. The actions of Digi Telecommunications have not only caused me great frustration and anger, but it also shows a complete disregard for the well-being and loyalty of their customers.

I kindly request that MCMC to take immediate action to address this issue, and hold Digi Telecommunications accountable for their actions. I urge MCMC to ensure that they are not allowed to continue profiteering and exploiting their customers by hiding package options and forcing users to upgrade without their consent.

I would appreciate a prompt response to my complaint, and I would be happy to discuss this further.

Sincerely,

RAM issue not showing dual channel on CPU-Z

Today suddenly when the PC bootup but no display. So I suspect last week I replace the CMOS battery and clean the dust causes the issue.
so I reseat both RAM and use microfiber cloth to clean the pin and also clean the GPU pin. So the PC can turn on again.
But When I check CPU-Z it seems like it's not running dual channel anymore.
Anyone know why? I am sure I seated the RAM into the correct slot.
Is this normal?

My spec
i7 8700k
MOBO: MSI z370
16GB ram mhz26000

https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/5290791
This is my previous thread when I encounter Bios reset issue, but the issue gone after I replaced with a new battery.

Bootup "All settings were reset to default values"

Few days ago I started to encounter this issue. When the pc bootup will see this message.
When I go into bios, everything back to default value even the xmp is off.
But I'm able to load back to my saved bios profile and everything seems fine. Even next day morning when bootup it will not show this message.
But during nighttime when I bootup the PC again, I will get this message. Not sure what happened.
I've been monitoring for few days now, it seems like happened on nighttime.
How should I start to debug this issue?

Google and saw ppl say reseat the ram will fix this issue. Is this common? or the CMOS battery is dying?

My spec
i7 8700k
16GB ram mhz26000

PC monitor image flashes once, then stays black

My PC monitor image flashes once, then stays black on startup.
If I wait for around 15 minutes and click on the input/exit button on the monitor, usually it will work again without an issue.
Is this indicate the power adaptor/power supply is failing? My running dual monitor. The 1st monitor, no issue at all. Been using this monitor for 10year.
After some googling, ppl said replacing the power adaptor will usually solve this issue.

The model is LG 23EA53

Update: fixed it by replace a new power adaptor.

While replacing the broken speaker.
I also ordered a replacement battery for the iPad2, because the original battery charge cycle already 520 with 77%.
After I have taken apart the iPad, I found out that the original battery has a chip in it, but the replacement battery doesn't have it.
Anyone knows what is the chip function from the original battery? The seller claim it's original, but where is the missing chip?
I've checked all the sellers from Shopee. All their replacement battery missing a chip as well and their sales are pretty high.
So far I don't see any ppl complaint about it.
Left is new battery, right is original.

I've checked the battery, found a word "mxz" looks like it is manufacture by this company in China.
https://mxzbattery.en.alibaba.com/

I also checked the ifixit replacement battery, it doesn't have the chip as well.

Random weird devices show up on the DHCP table

TLDR; 2 years ago when I am still using Streamyx and DLink router, occasionally I will see random Mac address shows up on DHCP table.
Model: DSL-2877AL

So discovered there is always a random weird devices show up on the DHCP table.
I am 100% sure these are not my devices and I don't have repeater, access point, cctv or neither Huawei phone at that time.
Usually something like this from the table.

android-24fcc788014831d8 54:27:58:E5:23:32
HUAWEI_Y7_Prime 8C:25:05:A2:B2:BF
dlinkap EC:22:80:E3:98:44
Tenda F4:F2:6D:31:2A:26
android?? 00:9F:AC:6E:06:27

Sometimes this
android-b82f2e73852163e0 9C:5C:F9:4A:72:41

No matter what I did, it just keeps showing random devices on DHCP table even after I blocked it, a new random device will show up.
1. I'm using WPA2-AES and extremely complex pw.
2. Only allow whitelist Mac address.
3. Block suspicious Mac address.

I've also contacted DLink via FB to check with them whether the model was vulnerable because of this bug.
They told me HQ confirmed that we are not affected from this.
https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/secur...lose-passwords/

After I switch to TP-Link, the issue is gone.
Until today, it still puzzles me, whether my network was compromised, or this router did some fishy stuff on the backend.
Any networking expert able to explain this?
Buffalo External Hard Disk

My Buffalo Hard Disk still rocking.

I can't really recall if Buffalo external hard disk is my 1st or 2nd External hard disk that I bought.
I just wanna say holy shit, this shit still working after 10 years!
Altho the transfer speed is slower compare to today's standard, but man this thing just never fail me.
I rmb they use Toshiba or Hitachi hard disk and Buffalo is just their branding, correct me if im wrong.
Right now in Malaysia I just couldn't find any local seller that is selling this brand, not sure why.
I only able to find it at Lazada, and it's need to direct import from Japan.
For the same price you can get 2TB WD/Seagate locally. Is it really worth getting a Japanese brand external hard disk?
From my experience, Japanese usually keep the good stuff in their country and export castrate version to overseas.
https://www.lazada.com.my/products/buffalo-...&freeshipping=1
It happened since Tuesday 20/7/2021. No bluescreen or anything
Every morning when I boot up PC, everything seems fine. Only happened after in the morning after a long shutdown period.
2. It doesn't happen if I reboot PC, cannot reproduce such issue.
3. My use time normally in the morning -5pm > Shutdown> 8:30pm-12:00am > Shutdown. During the nighttime boot up it doesn't restart or hangs.
4.
Which surge protector to go for?

After few years of using Belkin surge protector, I started to question their product quality control.
So far I've sent 2 surge protectors for RMA, one protector they replace a new one for me, the other one they refunded for me.
And the RMA process is kinda tedious, you can only RMA from the seller that you bought, Belkin Malaysia will not entertain you even if bought their genuine product.
And recently I just found out now all the Belkin surge protector no longer offers a lifetime warranty.
is that any good quality surge protector recommend?
This is what i found, feel free to recommend.
APC
https://shopee.com.my/APC-PM6U-UK-6-OUTLETS...2218.2092802972

Targus
https://shopee.com.my/TARGUS-SURGE-PROTECTO...67819.438358123

PC freeze, auto restart after exit the game

PC frozen auto restart after exiting the game for around 2-3 minutes.
The weird thing is it only happens after exiting the game. I can play for hours without issues but by the time I quit, bam, PC freezes/restarts
It happened twice today so far.

Game tested: Warzone, Apex legends.
1. Nothing happened during the game, everything works fine no frame drop whatsoever.
2. All the fans are running, no overheating.
3. Windows and GPU driver all up to date.

It's a hard reboot. Event viewer shows Kernel-power
Google found some related issues but doesn't have any concrete answer or solution for it.

Spec
i7-8700K
MSI z370 Gaming Plus
HyperX fury black 8GB x2
Zotac GTX 1080 ti
PSU Thermal Take 700W Gold
