Please explain this behavior

This is my setup before:
PC1 - LAN1 - connected to router switch (192.168.1.101, 255.255.255.0, with DNS IP, no gateway IP)
- LAN2 - connected to Hyundai DSL modem (172.168.1.1, 255.255.0.0, with DNS IP, no gateway IP)
- WAN mini port PPPoE with streamyx user name + password (ICS enabled)
*another way of saying PC1 has got 2 NICs*

PC2 - LAN1 - connected to PC1 (192.168.1.100, 255.255.255.0, with DNS IP, gateway 192.168.1.101)

This is a working setup. Basically I connect to the net on PC1, but with internet sharing with LAN1 to my PC2.

This is my setup after:
*setup the router switch properly, with streamyx user name + password*
*plug the telephone line from the old hyundai DSL modem to the router switch*
PC1 - LAN1 - connected to router switch (192.168.1.101, 255.255.255.0, with DNS IP, no gateway IP)
- LAN2 - *disconnected*
- WAN mini port PPPoE with streamyx user name + password (ICS disabled)

PC2 - LAN1 - connected to nowhere (192.168.1.100, 255.255.255.0, no gateway IP)
- WAN mini port PPPoE with streamyx user name + password)

Yes, that's right, you read that right. This is how I surfing the net now and I can't explain how. Basically, to get online, on both PCs, you need to do a PPPoe to the router switch itself with the correct streamyx username and password. On the other hand, the router switch is wired to the telephone line and is configured with the streamyx user name and password.

Can someone please explain to me, why this setup works?

It is as if the router is the middle man, I mean, he's connected to streamyx, but for the PCs on the LAN, if you need to connect to the net, you need dialup to the router switch. I've never heard something like this before. Normally, we set our gateway IP to the router switch itself.

EDIT: once the 2 PCs are connected, both PC are assignd 2 different public IP.

Avoiding someone

Erm, I have this small little problem. Call her X. Long long time ago one fine day she post a thread on lowyat looking for people to help "finish" her assignment for free. That's how I know her. We even go out together. Little did I realized the horror later.

Now, whenever she have a new assignment, she would ring me up saying that she wanna go out with me or spent me something. In actual fact, she have a new "assignment" for me. She expect me to do it for free (well, she did "belanja" me sometimes), complete it along with the proper documentation and report and finally teach her how did it.

After a while I got sick of it and I want out. I started blocking her on MSN, then her call would be non-stop. SMS and voice call all day until my phone explode. I wanted to ignore her, but her number keep changing. Like she's calling from phone booth or friend's handphone or something. I wanted to end the relationship, but she don't care. She say, friends must help each other. I could say anything to reject her and she will have a way to made me do things for her.

Please advice.

My laptop, my precious HP Compaq TC4200, together with its extended travel battery drop right to the floor, at the height of about the middle of my back to the floor. At the same time, my heart fell too. Amazingly, there're no scratch, no dent, good as new. Try wake up from standby. Works..
Using neural network to break encryption?

Let's say we have a black box that can accept a string of text as input and give out an encrypted text as output. Let's assume the box can only encrypt text, and not vice versa, i.e. it can't accept an encrypted text and return its decryted equivalent.

So let's assume the person who designed the box give you an encrypted text and ask you to decrypt it. He give you the box and you can use it to encrypt any string of text you like in the condition that you can't pry open the box and determine its encryption algorithm.

How can one solve this problem? Can we say, designed a neural network, give it a bunch of random text and train it with its encrypted equivalent(using the box) and find out a way to reverse the process by disecting the neural network? Do you think it will work?

I need to write a proposal for my final year project soon. Any ideas what kind of project I should embark? I was thinking about doing a research-based project. Maybe some neural network thingy. The problem is I can't do robot as we didn't learn mechanics. Our course learns a bit of programming, and mostly embedded system design. Any ideas? My tutor Dr. Tayy gave me the idea to do a autonomous RC car that can drive by itself, and learn how to avoid obstacles. Just want to gather some ideas.

debug and some assembly related questions

I'm a newbie in assembly language, I would be glad if someone could help me out in a couple of questions that I had below:

1. When I'm in debug (under dos), and let's say I type a100, followed by some assembly instructions. The last 2 instructions are INT 21 and INT 20. When I tried tracing it, the instruction "INT 20" is no where to be seen, instead, I see "NOP" instead. I also noticed that after executing the intruction "INT 20", my cs:ip jumped to somewhere else.
