"The Audio Service is not Running" and other probl

Well, my PC having some startup problems and such but otherwise nothing serious but one day, when I booted up there was a red x on the volume icon and when I mouse over it, it says 'The audio service is not running'. So, I googled for a solution for it but I only came about a few solutions. most prominently is reinstalling vista(which im using).

Other than that my optical drive also stopped working and it doesnt show up under my computer. when I open device menager it says in device status 'A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)'. Now, I found some solutions for that that required me to use regedit but it says 'registry editing has been disabled by your administrator' when I try to acces it even tough I am an admin. So I also googled a solution for that which required me to download a file called reg_enable.vbl that required me to open an elevated command prompt but every time I try to open it, it only stays for a split second before closing immediately. So now im suspecting a virus.

Im thinking about reinstalling vista. Ive tried repairing from the installation disc many times but to no avail.

One question tough, I have 2 160gb HDD's. 1 divided into 2 partitions and the other just 1 partition which holds Steam and all my games. Vista is only installed on the first drive since I only added the second one afterwards. So, if I reinstall vista on my first drive, will I still have all my data(games) on my second drive?

My specs

CPU: Intel E5200 @ stock clocks
Mobo: Gigabyte G31M-ES2L
RAM: Corsair 2x1Gb DDR2 800 gaming memory
HDD1: a few years old 160Gb samsung drive
HDD2: WD Caviar Blue 160Gb
GPU: Ati HD4670
Optical Drive: Lightscribe CD/DVd writer
PSU: Some generic 450W PSU

Thanks in advance
